Beautiful four-season cottage on Hope Bay, near Wiarton on the Bruce Peninsula, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. 1,800 square feet, 4 bedrooms, open concept kitchen/living room, another living space upstairs and 2 bathrooms (one of which is en suite). The house was built in the Cape Cod style and has all modern conveniences. The location is the small community of Hope Bay.
The cottage is directly on the Bruce Trail, and a 2 minute walk to the "hidden gem" public Hope Bay sandy beach with its pure turquoise waters. Just 5 minutes by foot is the trailhead to enter Hope Bay Forest Provincial Nature Reserve—a magical section of the Bruce Trail that goes along the top of the Niagara Escarpment, including an extremely high diversity of ferns and orchids, scenic caves, glacial potholes, and stunning views of the bay.
This retreat-like setting with all the comforts of home has proximity to sandy beaches, canoeing, kayaking, boating, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and other activities. Nearby, a quaint (seasonal) campground shop sells ice cream and other necessities for hikers and also rents canoes and kayaks by the hour.
There is 1 queen bed, 2 double beds, and 1 single bed in four separate bedrooms. It has a fully-equipped and modernized kitchen, washer & dryer, and has both baseboard heaters and a propane fireplace. It also has a large front porch, back deck, and a second upstairs deck—plenty of room to entertain and enjoy the outdoors. Note that the cottage is not waterfront, but it is only a two minute walk to the beach.
Nearby sandy beaches include Sauble Beach (30 mins from the cottage) and Sandy Beach at Black Creek Nature Reserve (22 minutes from the cottage)--a hidden gem with shallow entry that is ideal for little ones. Wiarton is a 15-minute drive, as is Lion’s Head Provincial Park, including its sandy beach. Greig Caves is a 10 minute drive. Also nearby is the the 2 km Spirit Rock Conservation Trail where you can visit the ruins of an 18th century mansion and descend a spiral staircase from the top of the Niagara Escarpment to the Georgian Bay shoreline and get a close-up look at the escarpment face on your way down.

NATIONAL/PROVINCIAL PARKS
Our 2 national parks have so much diversity, and so much to experience - you could spend days exploring the different landscapes, cliffs, caves and fauna. In Bruce Peninsula National Park, dramatic cliffs rise from the turquoise waters of Georgian Bay. In large tracts of forest, black bears roam and rare reptiles find refuge in rocky areas and diverse wetlands. Ancient cedar trees spiral from the cliff-edge; a multitude of orchids and ferns take root in a mosaic of habitats. Welcome to the magic of Bruce Peninsula National Park. Renowned for scuba diving, Fathom Five National Marine Park is Canada’s first underwater park and boasts 22 known shipwrecks! Regardless of your experience as a diver or snorkeler, the dive shops of Tobermory will introduce you to Canada’s premiere dive destination.
HIKING
The Bruce Trail starts it's journey in Tobermory, and travels 773 km following the Niagara Escarpment. The 150 kilometres of trails in the Bruce Peninsula are considered the best in Southern Ontario, and offer hiking for the beginner and veteran hiker. The Fall Colours our outstanding and not to be missed.
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
Opportunities for cross-country skiing abound in the Bruce peninsula. Bruce County's various ski clubs offer multi-level trail networks, many of which are groomed. Town rail trails are also available for ski use with well-marked routes for backcountry exploration. Sauble XC Ski Club has 18 kms of groomed cross country ski trails with an additional 13 km of snowshoe trails starting that all begin from a warm chalet. CANOEING and KAYAKING
The cliff and cove shoreline of the Niagara Escarpment offer an excellent paddle. River paddling is also a great sport on the Bruce Peninsula. The Rankin River route begins at Sky Lake on Red Bay Road and ends 18 km beyond at Sauble Falls.
BEACHES
The Bruce Peninsula beaches vary from tables of limestone rock on Georgian Bay to miles of sugar sand on Lake Huron. Sunsets on the beaches of Lake Huron are second to none! Although it’s on the Georgian Bay side of the peninsula, Lion’s Head offers a gorgeous sandy beach the entire family will love. Perhaps one of the area’s best-kept secrets, Sandy Beach at Black Creek Provincial Park is a step back in time to the rugged, untouched Lake Huron shoreline of years gone by. The closest public beach to Tobermory on the Lake Huron side can be found 10 kilometres south just off Dorcus Bay Road. Part of the Bruce Peninsula National Park, Singing Sands beach features a 3-kilometre trail system that runs along the shoreline and into a fen that’s full of rare plants and a dune ecosystem. If you prefer the comforts of a more urban beach setting with grocery stores, cafes and restaurants, and shops all at hand, head to Bluewater Park in Wiarton.

Great location, close to nice beach excellent for small children. Proximity to Bruce Trail allowed for great hiking. Open concept main floor nice for family gatherings
We had a fantastic time in Hope Bay. As soon as we arrived, it felt like home. The residence was perfect for a relaxing stay with a nearby beach to chill at. It is also centrally located on the peninsula which allowed us to travel around and see the many sights on the Bruce. 5 Stars!
A lovely spot in Hope Bay with a quick and easy walk to the water and store with ice cream! Cottage is clean and well equipped, offering front and back porch space to hang out in sun or shade.
The place was quiet but closed to beaches(sauble beach 30min) and nice trail (grotto 45min). The house is well adapted for family and the host provides a lot of useful information and was really responsive. There is a small beach on the bay very closed to the house with nice sunrise.
This was our second year staying at this lovely home in the most beautiful spot in Ontario - IMO. The small private beach is perfect for my under 10yr old grandchildren, and me if I'm honest. The back yard of the property is the perfect size for setting up a game of ladder ball or a game of catch or roasting marshmallows over the fire. The host is fantastic. We have decided to make this trip annually for as long as it's available❤️
Wonderfully appointed vacation home that can accommodate large groups. Excellent chef's kitchen that allows several to assist in its space. Spacious backyard that can accommodate cornhole boards and badminton net. Ample parking for several cars and large storage shed for any beach chairs/umbrella you bring.
Rear deck is expansive allowing large groups to sit outdoors.
Overall great spot that just needs a few touch-ups here and there.
Great Home perfect for a family, we were 4adults and two kids. The Back yard was perfect for setting up games like ladderball and Cornhole (which we brought) and playing with the grandkids. The Beach was close enough even for the 2 year old to walk and both kids (6&2) LOVED it there. White sand beach, clear shallow water, Perfect! Quiet location but not more than 15 min drive for essentials. We would, and probably will stay here again.
Once again we the home suited our needs as a team of musicians. We were close to Cape Croker where we were teaching fiddle and guitar music to the students.
Spacious for 4 adults to have private time. Kitchen was excellent for 3 people cooking their own meals. Suggestions to make the stay even more comfortable - add large mirrors in master bedroom and ensuite; add mats on the cold ensuite floor: add one or two comfortable chairs in the dining/sitting room and in the upstairs living room; add hooks at the front and side door for coats; add a small table in the master bedroom for personal stuff; add a dresser in the master bedroom for clothes.

Thanks for the feedback, we are glad you enjoyed the stay. We will work on these items, and note that the ensuite has in-floor heating.
This the second time that we have stayed at your house while we were teaching fiddle and guitar music for Strings Across the Sky at Cape Croker. We were able to relax and to re-energize in the evenings and night for the work of the next day. We are hoping for warmer weather when we will come back in May. Thanks.
My family of 7 stayed here for 4 nights. The place itself is amazing, lots of space, very cozy and very comfortably slept 7 with extra blankets for those who wanted to sleep on the couch instead of share a bed with a sibling. The beach that is 2 minutes away is probably the best one around with it’s crystal clear water and the kids can play with little to no danger since the water is knee high for the first 25 yards and very slowly deepens as you walk out further. Otherwise it is located close to all the major attractions in the area. Communications with the owner were also easy, and answers were always very timely. I would come back here without hesitation, and would recommend the place to anyone.
Tucked away in the heart of Tobermory, this cottage felt like the perfect escape for our week long getaway. It’s modern, fully equipped with everything you could need—a gorgeous kitchen, air conditioning, soft towels, backyard grill. The upstairs living room was our favorite spot, where we spent cozy nights cuddled up, watching movies and just enjoying the quiet neighborhood.
Honestly, this is the cleanest cottage we’ve ever stayed in. The owner really thought of everything—there were plenty of toiletries, fresh bedding, linens, and even little extras that made the place feel so welcoming. It’s rare to find that kind of attention to detail.
The backyard was probably my personal favorite. It is absolutely breathtaking at night, with a sky full of stars. It made you dream of simpler times. It was well stocked with firewood for the stay by our thoughtful host. Every evening, we gathered around the campfire, making s’mores underneath the blanket of stars. It was such a peaceful way to end the day.
And we can’t sing enough praise about the host. They were so gracious, even making an exception to their no-pets rule so we could bring our little dog. Great communication throughout, even reached out when we left a phone behind
If you’re thinking about staying here, do it. You won’t regret it. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Had a great time in Hope Bay.
Starting with the cottage. Very good and clean with all the things you need for your stay. I didn't care much for the bed. It wasnt very comfortable and the pillows were not great. My brother and law felt the same for his bedroom. I also found on the upstairs very warm on a couple of nights. That said, there were a lot of fans and ceiling fans you can use to keep the upstairs cool.
The yard needed a cut as there was a lot of rain before we arrived. I messaged Chris about it and they were prompt to respond, but their landscaper didn't show up until Thursday so good thing we didn't wait. All good, the boys and i cut it relatively quick with the available mower in the shed. We enjoyed sitting on the patio for dinner (nice shade at dinner time) and campfires at night.
All in all, the upsides certainly out weighed a couple small issues for me.
The area itself is amazing. Lots of options for biking, hiking and the beach was incredible. The beach was like something from the Caribbean with the soft sands that went on forever. The water was very cool, but you get used to it and the children seemed to shrug it off. It is very shallow so very safe for little ones. Sauble is a 30 minute drive if you don't mind the crowds for warmer water...
The location is great also as its not too far to Tobermory for sightseeing, or Wiarton, or Lion's Head for groceries more hiking or for treating yourself to a nice restaurant.
We had a great time. It was easy to go anywhere. It’s next to the Bruce trail, there’s a nice little beach down the street, 15 minutes drive to lion’s head and a 45 min drive to Tobermory.
This house is very comfortable, it has everything you need!
Lovely cottage with lots of space. Large rooms, comfortable beds, plenty of living area and a private back yard. Excellent hiking nearby on the Bruce Trail. A short walk to the water and a short drive to Lion's Head.
