The Lake House is a perfect vacation home. Everything you could possibly need is provided - a fully stocked kitchen, a big front porch where you'll want to spend all your time on a sunny day, really comfy beds, plenty of bedding, beautiful views, peaceful and quiet. We stayed 4 nights. The location was great for exploring the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, and surrounding areas. You will love this house!
Very nice property, many fun things to do and watch lots of birds. Great place to come back to after a day of hiking.
Exceptional hosts, nicely furnished, very clean and comfortable all around. Highly recommended. Five stars for sure.
We really enjoyed the whole place, especially the porch. There were nice touches throughout the house and property.

Serene sage respite
We had a great time at the property and doing things in the area like biking, hiking and visiting the Painted Hills/Fossil Beds. The property was very comfortable and made for a lovely base in the evening and morning, after and before each days events. Everything was well provided for and clean and communication was very easy and appreciated. It was so peaceful at the property and really pretty to walk around, as there were paths that lead down into different sections of the 60 acres. We would definitely choose this place again if available in the future.
Effective communication before we arrived and a prompt text from the homeowner just before we arrived put us at ease. The pictures do not do this home justice. Every creature comfort was met and many expectations were exceeded.Everyone agreed to stay at this home again if we make it back to John Day as a group.
We spent three days traveling throughout the three JDFB units and it was really great to be able to stay at the Lake House at the end of the day. Cool crisp mornings. Blue sky’s.
Everything was as expected and we appreciated all the special appointments.
Well stocked and cozy.
Thanks!
Lovely home, well appointed with all one would need in a house. Lots of thoughtful “extras”. A lovely porch and yard that looks out on acreage and a pond, perfect for breakfast coffee. Exceptionally quiet and peaceful for evening rest. The hosts were wonderful to work with.
The John Day Lakehouse was the final stop on our 10-day road trip around OR. It did not disappoint! The house was super cozy & accommodating and the small lake with the paddle boat was super fun. We named the Muscovy Ducks “Matilda, Gisele, & Esmeralda” because of their exotic existence and totally loved watching them. Our 11 yo said the Lakehouse was his favorite place out of the four places we stayed throughout our 10-day adventure.
We had a few hiccups (one of our party showed up an hour early, and there was a fire on the driveway in) but otherwise the stay was terrific. Six friends, old and new, reconnecting for a long weekend of meteor hunting (even with the enormous moon) and county fair food. The home is lovely, plenty of room and comfortable for everyone. The porch is a highlight! Best lounging I've done all summer.
A sheer delight inside and out! Staying here makes you smile. Very comfortable, easy to move around, and so clean. Everything you might need, just where you might guess it to be, and no clutter. Then add in the lovely property with pond, wildlife, porch and covered patio. Even with the 100+ heat wave we enjoyed our stay immensely.
We had a fun July 4th weekend with the family. The house is beautifully decorated, clean, and had some nice extra amenities: bug sprays, coffee, fruit, and s’mores. The kids really enjoyed the paddle boat, roasting s’mores and all the fun mood lighting. They even saw a giant fish (catfish?) in the lake. The adults enjoyed biking and hiking uphill on the property, the outdoor BBQ and playing corn hole while listening to music on their big Bluetooth speaker. We would come back again but bring our elderly mothers next time.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Lakehouse in John Day. The hosts have really thought about and provided everything you would need for your stay. We were rained out of a lot of the sightseeing activities we had planned, but it was fine because we had such a comfortable and cozy place to stay. Woke up to deer across the lake on our last morning, fell asleep and woke up to birdsong each day, and were entertained by the resident ducks roaming the yard. Thank you for a wonderful stay in John Day!
