Family vacation

The property is easy to locate, in a good neighborhood, and accessible. The roads, including the driveway, require a car with good clearance or you will bottom out the car. Speed "humps" are not like your typical speed bumps. Mornings are very nice at the home with a beautiful view and the birdsongs as the alarm to get up and start making the coffee. The house comes with plenty of towels for the pool, and a garage full of equipment for a good day at the beach. Air conditioning is available to reduce the humidity and allow for a good night's sleep. Overall, very pleased with this choice.

NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED

We chose this house based on the description that listed a bedroom was located on the ground level, specifically to accommodate my elderly mother-in-law. Although we had reviewed the description of the home several times, we tried to reach out to the host (before our contract was non-refundable) to confirm a bedroom was indeed on the ground level. We never received a response. Upon arrival, we discovered the house was set up as a tri-level home (which was not mentioned in the description), with one bedroom up a flight of stairs to the upper floor and two bedrooms down a flight of stairs to the bottom floor. The kitchen/living room was on the main floor. I immediately contacted the host and he acknowledged receiving our message and apologized for not responding. VRBO offered to move us to another home so my mother-in-law would have a safe place to reside, but the host declined to work with VRBO. We had no choice but to stay, though my mother-in-law ended up sleeping on a rollaway bed in the living room area during our week long family vacation. In addition to the house not being as described, the house needed a lot of repairs. The host made a few fixes during our stay but a few things were never repaired (the master bathroom shower head remained broken). We were told “It’s a large home and repairs are needed, unfortunately, they are needed during your stay”. We just expected better for the price. After a while, we gave up and made the best of the situation.

Perfect location

The location was fabulous, landscaping immaculate, pool and beach amenities plentiful. The star fruit tree on the property was a wonderful surprise; the fruit delicious. However, for the cost per night, we expected better quality of the home itself. Upon arrival, we found dirt and debris (assuming blown in by the landscapers) in the basement shower. The bathroom itself was fairly dark and could use better lighting, And for some reason, dirt kept appearing in the powder room around the faucets. In one of the lower level bedrooms, we could not open the blinds for the slider and the a/c blew mostly on the side of the bed. The sheets, towels and pillows provided were okay to poor and should be something less worn. The kitchen was a mishmash of items spread across the cupboards and drawers. The coffee makers were on one side of the kitchen with the cups on the opposite end. The knives were abysmal, many with the tips broken off. Herbs and condiments expired; pans burnt beyond their years (providing scrubbing tools or Brillo, might help prevent this). The kitchen could be pleasant to cook in, with a cleanup of worn, old items and a little organization. Surprisingly, we did not find smoke detectors in the home. The area was beautiful, but we would book elsewhere next visit.
