Fun times
You’re property was absolutely beautiful. Was easy to Uber and use sky train from there. My daughter loved the kids room. Loved climbing wall and sitting at the top nook reading her book. Was so well equipped we didn’t need for anything. Thank you for a memorable trip.

Quaint stay in a quaint neighborhood!
This is our second time staying as a family at Sam’s place. The home is very clean, cozy, and is an amazingly located right next to trout lake park. It’s a perfect stay for a family, and Sam is an excellent and highly responsive host. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay Sam (a second time around!)

A Great Stay
The house was modern, clean, and well-appointed. A very efficient use of space. We loved the hot tub -- I was in there every day.

Exceptional stay with unique amenities
Our family has stayed in many rentals but Samantha's home really stands out. My youngest said it was the best rental ever and my tween liked being able to have his own space on the third floor. That was something very important while being together so much on a long trip - everyone had their own space to escape to when needed. The host could not be more gracious and accommodating. This is truly their home and you can sense that it is not a sterile rental that is a revolving door of guests. Being on the park was an incredible amenity for us. Having green space, walking paths and a playground just beyond the back fence was very nice. All of the beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of storage. The house does have three floors so it may not be a good fit for those with mobility issues or very young children. My biggest concern for a stay away from home is safety and quiet. This home does share a wall with neighbors but we did not hear one sound from next door. The neighborhood also felt very safe. We did use the SkyTrain one day to visit downtown and found it easiest to use one of the parking garages near the station. The cost was minimal and the ride to the waterfront station took all of 9 minutes with trains coming every 2 minutes. The home was equipped with everything we needed and more. Parking was never an issue and we couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Clean, Fun, Great Location
Sam’s house was everything our family needed for our stay in Vancouver. The kitchen had everything we looked for including possibly the best coffee I’ve ever had. Everything was very well marked and easy to find. Wonderful use of space. My daughter loved the gymnastics and climbing room and my son liked the “party room” as he called it. King bed was comfortable. If you have mobility issues know that there or lots of stairs. Landscaping and patio were nicely done. Hot tub was clean. Nice neighbors. Beware that Google Maps comes up with the wrong house. Same block but it’s not a green house. Perfect for families, couples, friends. Great location to explore the Vancouver area.

About the host

Host profile image
My name is Samantha and I'm a third-generation Vancouverite with a deep love for my city and an equal passion for adventure and seeing other parts of the world. I'm married to Pete, a funny, quirky, whip-smart filmmaker named whose documentary about Muhammad Ali was short-listed for an Oscar. I have two children, one of whom is also an avid writer and published a novel at age 11. My youngest wakes up happy and falls asleep happy, which is a truly lovely thing.

Why they chose this property

This home backs right onto Trout Lake, the third largest park in Vancouver. A gorgeous 0.8-mile lakeside trail, two playgrounds, and a community centre with gym and sauna are all within a few feet from the back gate.

Craving an urban vibe? A 10-minute walk away and you're in the heart of "The Drive," one of Vancouver's most vibrant shopping and restaurant scenes.

Or get your dose of winter wonderland at three local ski resorts within a 30-minute drive.

The home itself is a custom-designed, three-level duplex built in 2003 by celebrated Vancouver architects BattersbyHowat. Their award-winning work is known for its distinctive contemporary style and has been featured in Metropolitan Home, Dwell, Wallpaper, Hauser, Sunset, and others. The home features a modern mix of concrete, wood and high-end wool carpet, interior design that is tasteful yet decidedly un-boring, with floor-to-ceiling windows that maximize the beautiful lake views.

What makes this property unique

If you have children, they will be wowed when they see their bedroom, featuring a trapeze swing, pod swing, climbing wall, secret loft reading nook, and chalkboard wall.

Trout Lake is one of Vancouver's best kept secrets, a huge 70-acre park surrounded by a quiet residential area but only a 10-minute drive away from the centre of downtown!

Free street parking in front of the home. If you're not bringing your own car, rest assured that Vancouver is rated the most walkable city in Canada, and our neighbourhood is considered one of the most pedestrian-friendly areas in the entire city. There is a SkyTrain station six blocks away, and a few stops takes you to the heart of the downtown core.
