The town is situated on the Gulf of California, which is also known as the Sea of Cortez, and is surrounded by the Sierra de San Pedro Martir mountains to the east. The area is home to a variety of wildlife, including dolphins, sea lions, and desert animals.
The location means San Felipe experiences a desert climate, with hot and dry summers with temps sometimes reaching the triple digits in July and August. Winters are mild and comfortable with temperatures averaging around 60°F in December and January.
