The Cottage At Axis Hill Farm with Private Riverfront
“The Cottage” At Axis Hill Farm
The Cottage at Axis Hill Farm is the perfect spot to relax and refresh or enjoy a family gathering at the river or on the patio. The night boasts a beautiful sky with a multitude of twinkling stars.
We endeavor to provide our guests with as much of an “at home” feel as any vacation rental can provide. It sits within a fenced yard; a patio and privacy garden so that you may enjoy the tranquility of the Hill Country well distanced from the entrance gate. There are also lots of hiking and walking places both on and off of our property, as well as private river frontage to enjoy during your stay.
We are located ¼ mile from Hunt, Texas, between Schumacher Crossing and the Hunt Crossing, and next door to Bridget’s Basket and The Market. Numerous summer camps are within just a few minutes of our gate, and we are in close proximity to several good restaurants. Also in close proximity are several golf courses, wineries, and museums.
The 2 bedroom / 2 bath cottage is behind gated access and sits comfortably on the side of a hill overlooking the Guadalupe River Valley. It is nestled off to the side and slightly behind the main home in the yard area. There is a nice privacy garden that provides separation between the two. The cottage is well equipped with each room having its own new HVAC system and new ceiling fans to provide maximum sleeping comfort. The front bedroom has a King bed and the back bedroom has 4 Twin beds. There are sleeping accommodations for up to 6. Each bedroom has its own separate bathroom including new washbasins and new tile and glass showers. Each bedroom comes with wall mounted Direct HD TVs and fast Wi-Fi. All of the kitchenette appliances are new and include a fridge / freezer with icemaker, gas cooktop, and Breville Smart Oven. A Mr. Coffee maker is provided for your comfort and convenience. There is also a gas grill for outdoor cooking on the patio and a fire pit with a grill on top. For our guests who plan longer stays, The cottage is complete with a washing machine with a gas dryer and optional housekeeping can be arranged. Otherwise, cleaning is completed following your stay.
We own private access and deep water frontage on the Guadalupe River. There is plenty of room for access in and out of the water from our concrete and rock facility. In addition, we provide tubes for your floating pleasure and there are 4 Kayaks available. Swimming, fishing, kayaking, and floating in the tubes are but a few of the enjoyable activities that the river has to offer. Our private river facility can be accessed by vehicle or a short walk from the house and sits at a comfortable distance from the highway for your privacy.

I really enjoyed my stay at the cottage. It was very clean and comfortable. The inside is nicely updated and the outdoor patio area was lovely with lots of shade. The property sits up on a hill with lovely view and nice breeze. River access is right across the road so very easy to get to. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be back.
SUCH A GREAT LOCATION esp for camp pick up! Nice and clean and had everything we needed. The riverfront access is AMAZING!!!

It was a pleasure to have you and your family this past weekend and we’ll look forward to your return!
The location couldn't have been better, and the host as well! What a lovely spot near everything we wanted to do and see. Nancy was delightful, and so helpful! The cottage had everything we needed, and we slept so well. Wish we'd had more time to relax on the porch or the patio, because it was delightful.

Nice property, great property owners that were sensitive to our needs and expectations.
The property is located in the hill country and it is emblematic or that area... quite, picturesque, a great place to wind down. The house was clean and well maintained as was the property. We would go back.

Great time was had by all!
Wonderful and relaxing vacation spot. The cottage was newly renovated and well done in all respects. The patio on the river was clean, private and safe. The river was a wonderful retreat from the Texas heat whether you were just floating in an inner tube or fly fishing from one of the kayaks. The owners were welcoming and truly interested in doing all that they could so we would enjoy our stay.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We're delighted that your family had a good time and hope that you'll return again soon.
As always this property is an amazing stay! The private riverfront is so peaceful and tranquil it takes the stress right out of you. It reminds me so much of my time at nearby Camp Stewart when I was a kid. The cabin is very nice and I love the hill country view from the porch. The only thing I would like is for the cabin to have a full size oven instead of a toaster oven, but it wasn't anything that was going to hinder our stay. We will definitely return soon!

Nice lodging wonderful host
The property is on top of a hill on a ranch, with great views and very quiet. The rooms are clean, and functional. The host was very thoughtful and readily available. We had everything we needed. They even had a bottle of champagne in the fridge for us, knowing we were there for our anniversary. Bike riding on the country road was amazing, scenic, very little traffic, hilly, gave us a great workout. And it was very relaxing to swim and kayak in the river. They have kayaks right by the river for us to use, they are in great condition.

3 day weekend
We, two adults and two teenage children, stayed for 3 nights. The accommodations are very nice and the cottage is roomy. We were very comfortable. The river front part of the property is very nice as well. The water was deep which made it easy to jump in and swim or kayak. I also felt it was on a quiet part of the river. The only neighbors are across the river and they are large upscale properties.
The owner was very helpful and easy to communicate with on all the details. We'll be back.

Thanks you so much for your nice comments about your family's stay at The Cottage and your enjoyment of the river facilities. We do look forward to your return.
Axis Hill Farm was a wonderful place to stay. Nancy was the best host! Location was so close to everything in the Hunt area. The river dock located on rare deep water of the Guadalupe River was very private and beautiful. The Cottage immaculately clean. It had two spacious room that were appointed in charming Texas Hill Country style. The beds were comfortable for all. The internet access was strong. The grounds were beautifully maintained. The views were breathtaking. Excellent value for the rate. I look forward to staying there the next time we visit the Texas Hill Country.
We were welcomed like family and helped with everything we had questions about, the hosts are amazing!
The cottage was small but what we needed.
The river access is amazing- a piece of heaven! There is a very nice dock to get in the water that has ample seating/sitting area, it is a nice deep part of the river with amazing trees all around. They have kayaks, inner tubes, and a big floating foam mat in the water that kept our kids and us entertained in the water for hours! Do note, you have to drive from the cottage to the river which is just across the highway, but it’s not even a 5 minute drive.
Also noteworthy is that the bedroom with the 4 twin beds is one big room that is open and continuous with the kitchen and dining room.
We enjoyed the beautiful property up on the hill from the porch for coffee in the mornings and cooking out and making s’mores over the fire pit in the evening.
It was a great stay!
We stayed at this property for three nights after we dropped our kids off at nearby Summer camps. It was one of the best decisions we ever made! The cabin is very cozy and has all the essentials. The beds were very comfortable and vastly exceeded my expectations. Our group slept better there than we have in a long time. A good bed can make or break a trip and these beds helped. The cabin is quiet and secluded with nice views of the nearby hills. We did a lot of relaxing outside in the evening. There are two grills on-site and a fire pit, while we didn’t use them, we just might the next time we return. The waterfront is the best part of this rental. There were plenty of floats, canoes, and other pool toys there for us to use including a bathroom which was unexpected. The river is quite simply an amazing experience that brought back many pleasant memories of nearby Camp Stewart where I went when I was a kid. The waterfront is private so you don’t have to worry about sharing it with the public. It was so quiet and peaceful that we spent most of our time at the riverfront. The riverfront is well shaded and offers perfect relief against the 100 degree temperatures we were experiencing while we were there. The water was also quite cool and was very inviting to swim. One other note worth mentioning is that both the property and riverfront have been well treated for pest control. I didn’t see a single fire ant the entire time we were there. The grounds have also been well maintained. Mr Colvin is a great host and he checked on us personally to make sure our stay was first rate. Our family cannot wait until our next opportunity to return!

private waterfront
I have a mixed review about this rental...First of all, the owners were amazing and accommodating, so we were very pleased about that. It really was difficult to know how to star rate this property... SOOO, The waterfront- I give it 4 stars because it was private (only the renters could use that deck at the water). They also provided two kayaks and a nice table with 6 chairs! It was amazing, peaceful and secluded.
The cottage - I would give it 3 stars...This is where I was conflicted...My husband and I were in one bedroom and my daughter and son-in-law were in the non-private sleeping area. It was clean and quaint and very cute BUT it really is set up better for a family with children because there is no privacy between second "bedroom", (sleeping space) and the kitchen/living area. There were a few kitchen essentials missing also, such as pot holders, a strainer for pasta, no cutting board for raw meat (there was a wooden one), no oven (just a small counter top one), no microwave. Also there is no private outdoor area. If you want to drink your coffee in the morning or your wine at night in privacy you are looking directly at the owners house with lots of windows, which is VERY close in proximity to the cottage. The description on their listing says there is a "privacy" garden but there isn't. Thats a big deal to us when we go to the river because most of us have close neighbors at home and I for one want to be able to feel like we can sit outside without someone looking out the window and watching us vacation. If that doesn't bother you or that isn't an issue for you then I give it 4 stars, but for us it was 3 stars because of the lack of privacy. SO...4 stars for riverfront and 3 stars for cottage.

We appreciate all comments received by our guests at The Cottage. We always ask our guests to please tell us if they have any needs. Accordingly, since both the wife and husband in this case, both told me they were doing fine and nothing was needed, I find it strange that a lack of pot holders would be brought up at this late date. I'll own the oversight and it has now been corrected.
Regarding the balance of the remarks, I have the following comments:
The Cottage has been completely rebuilt, almost from the ground up, and was only completed this past May. This includes the Privacy Garden, as well as the plantings. For there to be an implication that there is no Privacy Garden is a misstatement. It clearly is shown in the pictures as well as in the description in the Overview Page on the VRBO site. Also clearly shown is a picture of the side of our home so that one can easily see that The Cottage is separated by this garden, but also in close proximity. Ultimately, Mother Nature will fill any gaps that are perceive. And yes, our kitchen window faces the general direction of the garden, but, frankly, we don't spend our time peering out of it, as there are too many other things for us to do!
In addition, the Overview Page tells that The Cottage has a kitchenette, not a kitchen, with a Breville Smart Oven. Nothing is stated about a microwave or a full size oven, however, a microwave is being considered for installation at a later date.In addition, we advertise sleeping accommodations for 6.
I believe that the description and pictures accurately describe The Cottage and there is nothing stated or implied that would mislead any future guest.
My daughter and I think of Dick's property and river front as our place of Zen! I have a picture of the river as my screensaver. We've been twice and used both cabins. They are wonderful as is Dick as a host. We plan to return often.
We love the area and the river access was perfect. We had everything needed to relax on the river. The cottage was perfect. We had expected two private bedrooms but was actually two rooms. But worked out fine for three of us. Place would be great for camp pick up and we will stay again!
