This was possibly the cleanest VRBO that I’ve ever stayed in. The lake was huge, with lots to do. The property owner provided kayaks, a fire pit, firewood, and everything we needed. Very impressed with the owners, how they made everything easy, and their attention to detail.
The surrounding town was somewhat disappointing—not much there and a little rundown. The lack of a easy lake access for the kayaks was problematic. Also, the neighbors seemed very concerned with what we were doing, and how we conducted ourselves. The ability to rent a boat was nice; however, having the boat owner right across the channel, micromanaging my every move was not a welcome addition.
The sleeping arrangements may not work for everybody. They worked fine for us, but it is something that you need to be aware—3rd bedroom is like an “in-law” suite—with access from the garage. Additionally, the master bedroom does not have a door. Again, this may not be a problem for most people; but, it’s important to be aware of that in case it is an issue for you.
All in all, I would still rate this at 10/10; and, I would highly recommend it. Just wanted to make sure to provide a comprehensive review.
This listing was fantastic. Working with the owner was so easy. The home was very clean and modern. Having three separate bedrooms (the Master was fabulous) and baths was so convenient for all. Close to town, yet secluded enough for Lake living, a perfect location. All of the family so enjoyed and the available kayaks were perfect for a lake cruise....
The Houghton Lake house was perfect for our family vacation. There was plenty of room and the house was well stocked with everything we needed. We enjoyed the fire pit most of all. Late evenings having s'mores with the family was a great way to end each day.
The home was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated and the home owners were great to work with. We rented to Pontoon from their neighbor who was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and it rained the entire time but the kids still had room to build forts and made the best of it.
Everything you could possibly need from this very tidy and well appointed property. We had a great time fishing from the deck, making s'mores at the bonfire and the very spacious deck and furniture. Highly recommend for a stay in this area.
We were very pleased with everything the house had to offer - the views/location were great! The kitchen had everything you would need. The upstairs bedroom did not have a door - it had a thick curtain/covering for the doorway and that did help with noise traveling, but that was the only thing we were surprised about.
We loved our stay at this home. It had all the amenities we could want and provided ample sleeping and common space for our extended family of 7. Would highly recommend renting the pontoon to allow access to the lake, unless you bring your own boat. Neighborhood was quiet and serene. We enjoyed daily trips out on the lake as well as some excursions to state parks for hikes. I’d recommend upgrading the mattresses - we found the master bedroom bed to be aged and sagging. Overall the house was clean, but we did find clothes from past renters behind furniture, as well as a dirty dish towel hanging in the kitchen and some food debris that didn’t get cleaned up from the kitchen floor. The grill was in great shape, and the extra fridge and fish cleaning station in the garage was very helpful! We also loved using the fire pit for regular campfires and appreciated the firewood available to us! Oh, also, the kayaks were great fun!
This home is laid out for family/friend gatherings. The large great-room has plenty of table seating for meals and includes plenty of seating for watching movies, playing games or having intimate conversations. We built a fire in the lakeside fire pit several nights and watched a meteor shower/shooting stars for two hours. Beautiful big sky country! Very close to good shopping, good food and a wonderful lake for boating, swimming, kayaking, and fishing. We have rented this home for the last two years and hope to return in 2021!
First time at Houghton Lake! House has a big living room and huge sofa which was perfect for our two families. Beds were
all very comfortable. Lots of space for eating and lounging outside. The kitchen is fully stocked including a fabulous Belgian waffle maker. Plenty of towels, large bathrooms and dishes. The kids room with the three beds is on the small side but totally usable. The only surprise was that the master bedroom adjacent to the loft isn’t fully closed off. There is only curtain door and it is not closed off above the door so you still get light and noise into the bedroom from the living room. We rented the pontoon from the neighbor. Very clean and worked great. We pulled a tube - not that fast but the kids still had fun.
Very clean and roomy. Lots of linens. Large wrap around deck with very nice furniture. Lake was fun for all ages. Outdoor grill was awesome. Spacious interior with comfortable furniture. I rarely rent the same property but would definitely return to this house.
3rd year renting this awesome home. The channel access is perfect for your boat and protected. The lake views are marvelous. You will love renting this home from the super nice owners.
Very clean. Good location. Well supplied with everything we needed. Great fun with the kayaks. Good dinner on the beautiful grill. Concern about water temperature being set a bit too hot. Had to be very careful. Side note: a pair of gold colored earrings were left behind. Perhaps on nightstand in downstairs bedroom. Thanks for everything.
This is a large, beautiful property located on the Lake. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Great location on the lake with great fishing right off the dock.
What a wonderful week. This home has everything you could possibly want in a vacation location. The home was spotless when we arrived & very easy to maintain for the week. Neighbors on all sides were very friendly & helpful. We rented a pontoon boat from Vince who lives across the channel. Great guy. Definitely use his services. We were able to pontoon cruise, bike & fish at our leisure. This home is also within driving distance from many well known Michigan tourist spots. The weather was great, especially for those of us from Arizona. We definitely recommend staying at this home for anyone that wants a relaxing, fun, memorable vacation.
Thank You Lori & Chris for making this home available.
Enjoyed this trip with my family! Very nice house and probably the most well stocked home I have ever stayed at. Very clean too. Thank you for letting us stay there for the week!
We truly enjoyed this spacious, very clean and well equipped home. The large family room/kitchen areas are perfect for family games, movies, etc and the kitchen had ample cooking supplies. The outdoor deck and fire pit areas were wonderful and provided relaxing, fun filled days & evenings. Thank you for the welcome gift s’mores package, it was a treat! Great water access for the kayaks (provided) and our pontoon. Highly recommend
Fantastic rental. Enjoy the view of the lake from the back patio, and the quick lake access from the channel. It is easy to park your boat alongside the seawall in back yard, and the channel provides great protection to your craft. The property provides covered parking, detached apartment above garage, and lots of comfortable sleeping options. The home is very comfortable, nicely furnished and always immaculate. The owners are very easy to work with, and always available if needed. Looking forward to our visit next year!!
Clean, organized, well stocked amenities, and perfect location for traveling with our growing family. Lots of deck space for sun or shade. Quiet neighborhood for evenings on the deck and walking to the local party store.
