About this property

Relaxing homebase for Williams, Grand Canyon, Bearizona, Flagstaff and Sedona

Welcome to The Gateway Cottage! Our beautiful privately owned upscale 1765 sf  "cottage" is situated on an acre of cool pines at above 7000' altitude in Northern Arizona, where you can slow down, take in the serenity of the forest and the clean, fresh air while the kids enjoy the swingset. In November, 2024, living room furniture was updated with a new sleeper sectional and matching chair, as well as a tv cabinet, bathroom vanity and light fixture. Our home is located just minutes east of Williams, "the Gateway to the Grand Canyon", where you will find plenty of shopping for most anything you need. The Deer Farm is under 10 minutes from our property, Bearizona and Canyon Coasters are 15 minutes away, as well as the Grand Canyon Railway/Polar Express. It's an easy 45 minute/60 mile drive to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, with Flagstaff 25 minutes and Sedona being an hour away, it makes this home a great central location!! Hunting and fishing, hiking and off road trails are all nearby. There are multiple lakes in the area: Kaibab, Dogtown, Cataract, Whitehorse, and Buckskinner Park to name a few. Our home has 2 KING bedrooms and 2 full baths, plus a sleeping loft with one QUEEN bed and one TWIN bed. Downstairs living room has a QUEEN sleeper sofa. We do furnish a pack-n-play crib, high chair and booster seat for the tiny guests. We can comfortably accommodate up to 9 adults. We're sorry, as a courtesy to homeowners/guests with allergies, WE DO NOT HOST PETS OR SERVICE/ESA OF ANY KIND. We do welcome adults, children and hunters!
See the stars through the skylights from the new king size bed in the master and the new queen bed in the loft. Both king bedrooms have a tv and dvd player, first floor bedroom has a vcr as well, and an assortment of vhs and dvd movies. The fully stocked kitchen includes everything you need, bring your groceries and make a simple or gourmet meal. The laundry room includes linens and towels. Outside relaxation on the deck, the rustic fire pit area or the front porch. We also provide super fast STARLINK INTERNET!! Again, so many fun activities (winter and summer) are nearby, including the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Grand Canyon Railway/Polar Express, Bearizona, the Deer Farm and Canyon Coaster Adventure Park, as well as museums, observatories and outdoor recreation such as fishing, hiking, skiing, sledding and more. This home will not disappoint you!  Check in is after 4pm and checkout is before 11:00 am.

Beautiful, wooded property. Excellently set up with all the necessities and more. We very much enjoyed our stay. Only words of caution is the train runs very near by, so you will hear the whistle all night.

Wonderful house with a helpful, communicative host! It has the vibe of an older cabin, but the updated furnishings and great condition made it feel fresh and comfortable. Even the pull-out bed was nice. The house is located in a very quiet location in the woods where you can really see the stars. Do note that the roads to the house are not paved, but that wasn’t an issue for us; and make sure before you check out that you clean the kitchen.

Great Property & Location

This property is in a nicely wooded area. We loved the cabin feel inside. Everything was super clean and we had plenty of room. The location is great too. Easy drives to lots of popular northern Arizona attractions from the Grand Canyon to Sedona to Flagstaff to Montezuma's Castle/Well to Meteor Crater. Would definitely stay here again!

The place was amazing and the porches were well used by our group. It was decorated so great, You could tell a lot of thought went into putting the place together. We like to cook and everything we needed was already there, including a crockpot. Absolutely a wonderful place.

Really beautiful property. However there’s a train that runs at night several times and unfortunately sleeping through the night was an issue for a few of us. For context the train tracks are about a 3 minute car ride away. Keep that in mind if you’re a light sleeper. Otherwise, great location if you’re heading to the Grand Canyon or any of the local attractions. The kids loved the play set. The cleaning fee is 150 which was a bit annoying considering you have to leave the kitchen spotless as opposed to other rentals where you can typically at least clean up the kitchen and leave the dishwasher running but here everything needs to be dried and put away before you leave. A small nuisance. We found several of other people’s socks while staying, but other than that the property was clean.

Amazing!

It was such a beautiful place. One that my wife and I plan on visit again hopefully. It was perfect for our family of 7. Everyone has a place to sleep comfortably. The snow around the property was so much fun to play in with our kids, and we were close to flagstaff for anything we needed to go and get. It is definitely worth the visit.

Great property and location!

With a newborn and toddler, we wanted a place where we could enjoy the snow right outside the property without going anywhere. This property was PERFECT! It was very clean and even better than the pictures. We were able to sled down a small sloped area on the property with the provided sleds, build snowmen, and come in to warm up as needed! We would definitely stay again! Thank you!

Excellent stay at this adorable cabin in the woods

We had two familes (four adults, for kids under 10) stay at this cabin between Xmas and New Years. The cabin is nicely updated and very comfortable. We had a minor issue with the heat which the owner was quick to address and fix. This cabin is in a great location, one hour from both Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon, so we did lots of sighseeing. Make sure to check out the Grand Canyon Deer Farm if you have young ones, it's only a few minutes away.

Our family get-together at the Grand Canyon

This was our first VRBO experience and the first time at the Grand Canyon for our kids & grandkids. This property was convenient to Williams and overall positive. We especially enjoyed the fire pit, large kitchen and woodsy setting. Number of beds was good but would have preferred the loft beds away from MBR. On last day we figured out how to turn on fireplace. The kids really loved the playground equipment.

About the host

Hosted by Merrie Edmonds

Host profile image
Our names are Darrel & Merrie, we met in Williams & have been married 52 years. We have 2 grown children and 5 grandchildren. We live in Surprise, AZ, but I (Merrie) grew up in the area, and have always called it "home". We love the mountains, pines and the quiet pace of the location.

Why they chose this property

We purchased the acre of land in 2002 because of the quiet, forest setting and dreamed of the day we would see our cabin there on the property. We sketched our vision, and took the drawings to a draftsman who drew the plans. We sub-contracted the construction beginning in 2005, and it was 100% hands on for us, doing much of the work ourselves. The home was (for the most part) completed in 2007. There was no intention of renting our home at the time, but with the economy crunch in 2009, we made the choice to share our home as a vacation rental, rather than selling it, which would have crushed us. We are consistent in keeping the home updated with furnishings and appliances, and are confident you will enjoy the property, making many happy memories there. PLEASE, IN CONSIDERATION OF THOSE WITH ALLERGIES, DO NOT BRING A PET/ESA/SERVICE ANIMAL TO OUR HOME.

What makes this property unique

There is a peacefulness you'll feel when staying at our home, and the proximity to the Grand Canyon, Williams, Bearizona, The Grand Canyon Railway, Flagstaff and Sedona makes our home perfect for daily outings taking in all the sites. We enjoy taking the family to the cabin to enjoy the cool weather in summer. The smell of the pines, relaxing around the fire pit and taking walks in the forest, along with the occasional sightings of the deer, elk, antelope among other critters in the area are a welcome change of pace. The Kaibab squirrels that live in the neighborhood enjoy the handouts and are very entertaining. Winters are beautiful with the fresh snow, sledding and holidays with spiced cider, hot chocolate and popcorn we provide. Christmas in Williams is a sight to behold, with the parade and the lighting of the huge Christmas tree. Boarding the Polar Express is a joy for the kiddies, young and old. Bearizona Wildlife Park and The Deer Farm are a must see, near Williams, only a few miles away. (Sorry, we do not host pets, including service animals, in consideration of those with allergies).
