Cavern House Helios is ideally located in the heart of the traditional village of Exo Gonia, a picturesque setting of cobbled lanes and blue domed churches nestled within the vine covered hills. The property is located at the top of the village, just a minutes’ walk from the carpark and is the perfect base for all your activities on Santorini with the beaches of Kamari and the island’s capital Fira both within just 15 minutes’ drive, the award-winning tavernas Metaximas and Anemoloos just minutes’ walk from the door and the neighbouring village of Pyrgos offering an assortment of shops and amenities. The properties location ensures easy access to the best that the island has to offer whilst also providing a relaxing and peaceful getaway when required.

Carved from volcanic rock, the original house dates back to 1840 has been lovingly restored in the traditional style and updated to an immaculate standard to ensure a comfortable and carefree stay for all guests.

Indoors this traditional Santorinian home comprises 3 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and a lounge. Furnished with care and attention to detail with pieces chosen to compliment unique architectural style, the property features a fully equipped kitchen including all appliances, cutlery, crockery. Laundry facilities, linen and beach towels are provided. The lounge area features a flat screen TV, Netflix and a DVD player with a broad selection of films for those stay indoors nights.

The lounge area opens directly to the courtyard and adjoining sun terrace with overflowing bougainvillea and a herb garden where guests can enjoy shaded and sun filled areas including a barbecue and dining area accommodating 6 people on the courtyard as well as sun lounges and additional outdoor sofas along with a plunge pool on the sun terrace.

It is sure to impress and allow you to slip effortlessly into island time while enjoying the panoramic views of the vine terraces of Profitis Ilias and the endless views across the Aegean to the island of Anafi and beyond as well as the amazing caldera sunset views just a few minutes away by car.

3 night stay in Santorini in a centrally located cave house. Easy drive to everywhere on the island. Cool experience but not for the claustrophobic. Property was very clean, well stocked, and well maintained. Kimi was awesome to deal with!

Great stay in Exogonia, Sarah was very helpful and the property was very clean and decor lovely. Facilities were all I could ask for. The location is great with an amazing view towards Kamari and other islands. Our teenagers enjoyed the spaces and it was very comfortable. Parking was a minutes walk from the property near the amazing church. Very close to great restaurants and well places for exploring the whole island. Would definetly come back again!

Gorgeous cave house in a fairly quiet area. Had a great time here unwinding and enjoyed the local taverna Metaxi Mas. Excellent service and communication before and during stay. Do hire a car as it is the best way to get around. Fairly quiet for children but the time of year may have influenced that and pool was a bit too cold for us but in the summer/warmer months it must be amazing. All in all a really nice place to visit and lovely accommodation.

Live like a local

Our family (3 girls-11, 9, and 3) loved our stay here. The authentic cave house experience with the sweeping views and plunge pool were great. We walked to Pyrgos from the house as well as enjoyed a couple lovely meals locally at Mexitaxi Mas. We took our car all over the island each day, and our girls loved ending the day in the pool with the blue dome view. The Internet was strong, and there were a solid amount of beach and bath towels. We will very much miss waking up to that view and would not hesitate to book again. Note that it is a 5-minute or so walk uphill to the house from the parking area, and the steps to the terrace are steep with a rope railing on the wall. This didn’t bother us but those with younger kids or less mobility could have issues.

Perfect house with a splendid view for a relaxing stay

We loved the house, which was pleasant in the hot weather because of the location, the cave-like build, the terrace with pool and view and the patio to have breakfast or dinner. A warm welcome by Petros who also made sure the house was clean and we had the first necessities when we arrived late evening. Pleasant and quick communication with Sarah who gave great suggestions for activities and restaurants on the island of which we definitely tried some. A car is necessary to go to other towns, tour the island and do some shopping, but you can find almost everything within a 15 minutes drive. A great stay for families who seek a quiet accommodation to rest from a beach day, hike, shopping, island tour or going out!

Amazing location

We were travelling with my parents and our toddler so we needed a home that could give us some room and would allow us to easily come in and out during the day for nap purposes. This property was perfect. Located in the center of the island, we were able to do anything we wanted and still have enough time to be back for a nap for the toddler. The beds were fairly comfortable. I will say that you have to walk uphill a bit to get to the location from the parking (and renting a car is a must at this location). May not be suitable for some elderly or handicapped people.

Santorini vacation

We enjoyed our stay in this modern cave house. It’s good to experience how other people, cultures and countries live. It was very quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed the cats that roam around every where. Parking is about a five minute walk up and down a cobblestone path. Not an easy walk with large suitcases if one is out of shape or the elderly (which we are both.) Our health and leg muscles improved after our stay here. The only negative which the host had no control over were the power outages that occurred for energy savings during our stay. The manager of the property, Petros was very helpful and always responded to our questions very quickly. I would definitely recommend this location.

We had a wonderful stay at this lovely cave house style villa! The house was perfect for the 6 of us, the kitchen was simple, efficient, clean, and well equipped, and the bathrooms were modern, clean and easy to use! The house is located in Exo Gonia which is a nice, quiet area with beautiful views, high up near the midddle of the island. We walked to nearby Pyrgos for dinner but needed a driver or car to visit the rest of the island. We knew this and planned for it in advance. Our host Sarah was very helpful and arranged for a reliable pick up and drop off to and from the port. Kimi was sweet and friendly and met us at the house to check in and show us around.The seating areas on both levels were comfortable for all of us. The upper deck offered a wonderful clean, shallow pool that was perfect for cooling off on a hot day, and a breathtaking view of a blue domed church overlooking Exo Gonia and Kamari beach! The overall vibe of the house was truly a unique experience. The house is updated but built into the slope of the hill so it only has 2 windows but that allows it to stay naturally cool during the hot summer. AC is also available in the rooms if needed. The stairs to the upper level are steep, but a handrail is available so take your time and use caution. The climb is well worth the effort for the spectacular view at the top! An added bonus was the multiple adorable, friendly cats that stayed close to the property. Overall 10/10 experience! Thank you Sarah!

Not user friendly

Not suitable for families with small children or over 50’s. Access to the property was problematical due to the steepness of the hill and cobbled street. Size of the property was smaller than advertised. Did not expect 1 of the bathrooms to have outside access only. Seating in the living area was uncomfortable and not suitable for the amount of people the property claimed to accommodate. The bedrooms had no windows, in 1 bedroom the bed was so high a step had to be used to get onto it. The passage way to the other 2 rooms was slippery and due to its undulation, poor lighting and unexpected steps was incredibly dangerous. The steps up to the roof terrace were too steep and too shallow, slippery when wet and therefore a hazard making the roof terrace unusable for many guests.

Wonderful stay in Santorini

We had a great time during our 10 days on Santorini. Communication with Sarah and subsequently with the daily manager of the property (Mark) was very good leading up to and during our stay. Sarah was very responsive to all inquiries and Mark was quickly able to answer any questions or issues that came up. Our transportation from the airport was arranged for us and went seamlessly and we were greeted by Mark who showed us around the house when we arrived. The fridge was stocked with some preliminary supplies including bread, butter, jam fruit, cheese and beer among other things which was a really nice touch. There were definitely a few quirks to the property such as the bathroom situation. One of the bathrooms is directly off the kitchen and the other bathroom which also has the washing machine is out the front door off the patio. The shared indoor space was limited to just the living room area which was a little tight for our group of six, but we managed to make it work. We liked the location of the property being away from the crowds of Fira and Oia but being able to get there and to other sites relatively quickly. We rented quads for part of the trip and a car for part of the trip which, in my opinion, is a must since there isn't much within walking distance. If you don't want to get a car there is a bus stop close by. There are two outstanding restaurants a short walk away. Metaxi Mas which is always packed and requires reservations (Sarah helped arrange ahead of time) was outstanding as expected, but Anemeloos, a little further down the hill was much easier to get into and we loved the staff and the food was phenomenal and wasn't as pricey...we went there 3 times during our stay. Overall a great stay. Thanks for your hospitality Sarah and Mark.

La maison troglodyte est située dans un petit village calme dans les hauteurs de Santorin, idéalement situé pour visiter l’île. Tous les spots touristiques sont à moins de 20’ en voiture (nécessaire) ! Pour les lève-tôt, le lever de soleil sur la petite terrasse avec piscine est un spectacle dont on ne se lasse pas. L’accueil a été parfait et nos hôtes à l’écoute pendant tout le séjour via WhatsApp même si nous n’avons pas eu à les solliciter beaucoup. Je recommande !

Amazing property, well located, perfect for our needs

We stayed 11 nights at the property and loved it. We were 2 adults, 2 elderly adults and 2 children (8 and 10) and it was great for our needs. Exo Gonia is a quiet residential neighborhood with little alleys, typical greek island white buildings, pink flowers, Greek Orthodox churches and chapels, and numerous cats, overlooking the opposite site of the caldera. Feels authentic, far from the crowds. From the property, you see the sea, the island of Anafi in the distance, the west side of Santorini and the sunrise. Sarah was very helpful at the time of the check-in and during our stay. The property is very well located, central on the island. It is close to everything with a car. It is located a few minutes away from grocery stores, cities, restaurants. When we arrived, Sarah met us to welcome us and help us with our luggage and show us the property. There was a little bit of food and water in the fridge for us so we didn’t have to go to the grocery right away. It was very appreciated after a very long trip/2 flights from Canada. The house is built in a deep cavern, so not ideal for someone who is a bit claustrophobic (like one of our family member) but there’s a room located closer to the door/living room so it was alright. There’s air conditioning in the bedrooms, the beds are comfortable, kitchen is large enough and equipped to cook small meals. There’s a washing machine, 2 full bathrooms, an outdoor area to eat and a terrasse with views, lounging area and a small pool. Truly an amazing place to stay and relax after a long day of visiting cities, going to the (numerous) beaches, etc. There are 2 restaurants at walking distance and both were fantastic and authentic greek cuisine. Our son got a bit sick (asthma) and Sarah helped us to find a doctor to see him right away. The only downside i would say is the accessibility. The parking is a 5-7 minutes walk from the house, and quite uphill. Disabled or elderly people would have a hard time to get to the property and to bring their luggages. Also, the parking is sometimes full so we had to park further. And the terrace of the property is located at the top of a very long and steep staircase. It is an amazing place for someone mobile and in minimal good physical shape but should maybe avoided for a disabled and very old person. Anyway, Santorini is an island where you need to walk and climb uphill. We had truly a great time, we were very sad to leave and we hope to come back one day!

Fun Firm Retreat

We had an excellent time in this property. Everything was wonderful and we were well looked after. Our other colleagues were staying in Afoura Houses down the road, also in Ex Gonia but unfortunately they had a horrific stay. So happy we got this property instead of theirs. Some of the other group had to pay extra to stay elsewhere. So be careful who you rent from - and you can definitely trust this property! You will have a great time here unlike Afoura Houses

An Amazing And Unforgettable Experience

This holiday and accommodation exceeded all and any aspirations and lived up to every single expectation and more than ! The whole experience was immense and the work and quality that Sarah has put into creating such an amazing villa is impressive. The Location is excellent, beautifully quiet, amazing views and with virtually anything that you would want to see on the island within a 15-20 minute drive away. Sarah, the owner is always on hand and the help support and information she provides is excellent. You could base your entire holiday just touring the little villages and Tavernas that she gives you in her excellent information pack and you would not be disappointed. If Sarah says it is good, then trust me it is better than good ! The location and Villa is not for the feint hearted in terms of steps and hills, but not only is the effort spent well worth it but it works off all the time spent in the Tavernas. Local food and wine was unbelievable in terms of quality and value and eating out every day is a must ! Been back one day and booking next year already, just in case there wont be any availability, because the more people that eventually find out about this place, the less likelihood there will be any space for me ! Thinking about it, disregard all of the above, its awful, don't go, stay away as that might be the only way I will get back again next year ! Sarah - amazing job and such great vision and taste ! We enjoyed our stay very much. Sarah brought us some bread and there were the most important things already in the fridge, so we could start the next day comfortably! Thanks for that! Communication was very good. Sarah responded very quickly and clearly. The apartment is not really for claustrophobic people - the rooms have no windows - you sleep like in a real cave..
