Casana Kyoto is a newly built hidden gem in a quiet residential neighbourhood near the historic Gion district. We chose it to get away from the touristy areas while having the modern conveniences of a serviced apartment, but with a traditional Japanese feel. It delivered all that and more!
It's located about 15-20 min walk to the main streets and the popular Pontocho alley. It’s just 20 mins away from Fushimi Inari (1000 tori gates), and a 45 min drive of the popular Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and the Monkey Park. The Go Taxis are readily available and an inexpensive way to get around quickly. The hotel front desk was staffed throughout the day and evening, were helpful in booking rides and providing information. They also provided extra amenities free on request, like an iron. Each room has a nature inspired name (like water, horse). The hotel aesthetic blended nature and modernity seamlessly. For example the corridor linking the rooms has skylights that let in natural light as well as the elements on the dark slate floors. Great thoughtful design and architecture.
The finishes were all premium, the cutlery, dishware, towels, bedding were all top quality. There were two toilet stalls (upstairs and on main level) and a full spacious washroom with shower room on the main floor. There was a great washer/dryer that worked very well. The apartment could easily sleep 6 - 8 persons, with a sofa bed and tatami mats with Japanese beds. It was thoughtfully laid out and appointed
