About this property

Achalic Beag - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

This wonderful new house for 2018 is beautifully situated within the Lerags Glen, offering complete rural peace and quiet, yet very convenient for Oban just ten minutes' drive to the north.

The house has been designed to look like a traditional highland cottage from the outside, yet has just been completely refreshed and modernised inside, with brand new kitchen, bathrooms, carpets and furnishings throughout.

As you begin to wind your way down the glen on the quiet single-track road you get a sense of the tranquillity and landscapes you are about to enjoy. You will pass the renowned Barn Bar and Restaurant, where you can enjoy hearty local fare and a range of cask ales, along with a warm welcome from the locals.

The beautiful panoramic views from this cosy cottage are best enjoyed from the spacious triple aspect sitting room, where you can sit and enjoy a quiet drink by the log burning stove and watched the shadows lengthen across the glen. The Large windows provide expansive vistas across the surrounding fields, hillsides dotted with sheep and the beautiful woodlands beyond.

The area has an abundance of wildlife including red and roe deer, red squirrel, pine martin, occasional sea eagles overhead and otters in the nearby burn and sea loch (Loch Feochan), some 500m to the west.

Achalic Beag has 2 good sized bedrooms upstairs, along with a well-appointed shower room, and a further bathroom downstairs off the large utility room, providing plenty of space for two couples or a family. The house features a bright and fresh dining kitchen and a very spacious sitting room with a beautifully cosy interior decor. Comfortably sleeping 4 Achalic Beag can accommodate a further 2 children on request.

Lovely cottage in delightful location
Achalic Beag is a spacious, comfortable and well equipped cottage set in beautiful countryside and in a great location for visiting Oban and the surrounding area of Argyll and Bute. We saw and heard an abundance of wildlife, which was a constant fascination for our Border Terrier, from Buzzards, Roe Deer, Cuckoos, Woodpeckers, Bats and owls. The lambs in the surrounding fields were a delight to watch from the lounge and kitchen windows. The cottage was a great place to retreat to after a busy day, and with a lovely walk to Loch Feochan from the door. There are plenty of lovely places to visit in the area, and even driving was a pleasure with spectacular vistas at every turn. The only minor issue was that the Wireless Internet was very slow, and it was generally quicker to use the mobile network to access the Internet. The Internet connection did impact the ability to use catchup TV as the connection was just too slow for it to work correctly. The Barn Bar just a mile up the road is easily accessible and serve great meals and beer, and we were treated to an impromptu performance of traditional Scottish music by local musicians and singers on the Friday night. This was our first holiday in Scotland, we had a fabulous time with great weather, and we would love to return. If we were to stay in the Oban area again we would definitely consider staying at Achalic Beag.

Wonderful cottage.
We stayed for a week at Easter holidays and we couldn’t have been happier. It’s a beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. It has everything you’d need, great information and the hosts also made contact via text to see if we were comfortable and to wish us a happy stay. The location is fabulous, you feel like you’re away from everything yet only a 10 minute drive from Oban. My daughter was extra happy because we could get a pizza delivered too! We had a great family holiday and would definitely recommend and we would book again.

8/10 Good

Quietness
Location, though only 10 minutes from Oban , was so quiet you could not but relax. Area was ideal for exploring. Try The Barn for a good evening meal after exploring all day.

8/10 Good

Lovely place to stay
Overall, an excellent cottage. We really enjoyed our two week stay. The only minor points that needed some attention to be perfect are:- The Satellite Dish needs some re positioning. A poor signal, is made a zero signal when cloud cover comes over. The bedrooms both have Velux opening windows, which in 28c heat were excellent for allowing excess heat from the bedrooms. However, it seems they haven’t been opened much. The openings by the handle were very dirty, with dust and debris which blew into the bedrooms. Neither of these points are serious, simple to remedy by the owners, but it’s an amazing place to stay. A high quality holiday cottage.
