About this property

Lovely French Gite, . Exclusive heated 10 x 5m pool. character accomodation,

Chez John was recently converted from a 17th century stone built barn and retains much of its original character. It nestles in the rural, tranquil hamlet of La Tremoulie and has a large garden with a 10 by 5 metre fully enclosed heated private swimming pool for the exclusive use of those occupying the gite.

The gîte is a short drive, or 10-15 minute leisurely walk along quiet country lanes from the village of Champniers et Reilhac in the beautiful Perigord Vert region of the Dordogne. (

Champniers et Reilhac is a very traditional, sleepy French village, dating back to the tenth century and boasting a cafe, Guiness bar, post office and tennis court. The bar serves a good choice of food. The bar is friendly and welcoming and great places to sit outside and watch village life! A new cafe has recently opened in the village - with a variety of restaurants for all prices in the area

During July and August Champniers et Reilhac alternates with nearby St Mathieu to host a weekly evening street market and barbecue, with live music and dancing!

The small towns of St Mathieu and Piegut Pluviers are less than ten minutes by car and have a choice of bars, restaurants and large supermarkets. Piegut Pluviers hosts the largest street market in the South West every Wednesday throughout the year and is packed with stalls selling everything you could imagine!

Also less than ten minutes drive from La Tremoulie there is a choice of two large leisure lakes with sandy beaches, mini golf, pedalos, bar/restaurants, children’s’ playgrounds and shady picnic areas.

There is everything you could possibly need on holiday within ten minutes driving time and driving in the area is a pleasure as there is very little traffic.

The historic town of Brantome has something to offer everyone and is not to be missed. Surrounded by the river Drome and its little meandering tributaries, it is known as France’s little Venice. Ancient buildings on little cobbled streets house a diverse variety of shops, cafes and brocantes and a large market is held every Friday morning.

If you want to try your hand at canoeing, providing you are over 5 years old, you can be taken upriver by bus, kitted out with lifejacket, plonked in a canoe and left to paddle your way back!

About us
We are Nigel and Janice John and we took early retirement and moved to France in June 2008.

After busy professional lives in the London area we love the peace and tranquillity of La Tremoulie. We chose the area for its rural location, yet easy access to lively market towns, international airports and motorway network to channel ports.

The locals have been friendly and welcoming and we’ve made many new friends within the community. We love our new home and the culture and friendliness of our adopted country – we hope you will too!

Lovely gite

Traditional gite; and Jan and Nigel have supplied it with everything you could possibly need. Great pool and the boys loved having the inflatables and games on hand.

Very relaxing holiday

Amazing place to stay! Nigel and Jan( and Luka) gave us a huge welcome and were on hand if we needed anything. Never been made to feel so welcome with food for a meal and drinks to say hello.The house is very comfortable and is equipped with everything it needs. Never slept so well! The pool area is beautiful with comfy loungers and a pool hut with the outdoor fridge! There is lots to do in the area if you fancy going out or you can laze around the pool. The house is in a beautiful quiet area and yet just a short walk to local village for bread or a drink /meal in the pub. Can’t recommend this place enough. We would love to return. Thank you John family for a lovely holiday.

10 *'s for Chez John!

Chez John is a beautiful gite with a secluded garden and a great heated swimming pool. Each area of the gite is amazingly equipped with everything that you would need. Nigel and Jan are the most beautiful hosts - there to help you in anyway they can. We really appreciated their hospitality and they produced a welcome basket the like of which we have never seen in the 10 years that we have visited France. They also invited us to a village barbeque which was a delightful French experience which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We had a fabulous stay and enjoyed every minute and were sad to come home. We can only highly recommend Chez John as a very fabulous place to stay and Nigel and Jan as the very best hosts. We really hope to return one day.

Nous avons été merveilleusement reçus par Nigel et Janis, délicieux couple britannique extrêmement accueillant et très à l'écoute du moindre besoin, de la plus insignifiante demande. Autant dire que notre séjour a été vécu comme un rêve. Le gite est incroyable : une maison spacieuse décorée avec beaucoup de gout, chaleureuse et équipée au delà de nos attentes.La piscine ? merveilleuse, chauffée, bien conçue, au milieu des arbres et de la nature.Le cadre, on en parle ? des promenades tout autour du gites, nous nous rendions souvent aux lacs et étangs nombreux aux alentours, dans une nature boisée, et verdoyante. C'est le cadre parfait pour se ressourcer, même quelques jours suffisent pour recharger ses batteries.Nous sommes arrivés le soir, et délicate attention que nous avons beaucoup apprécié, Nigel et Janis avaient préparé à notre intention un panier-repas copieux dans le réfrigérateur et de la glace à la vanille et cela incluait aussi des viennoiseries pour le petit-déjeuner du lendemain matin, inutile donc de courir en acheter au boulanger du village, peut être fermé à l'occasion !Ils nous ont dans la foulée invités à l'apéro le soir même!Leur adorable chien Luca, a aussi accueilli avec beaucoup de bienveillance son "cousin" notre colley Pouchkine, ce qui a beaucoup participé à notre bonheur !Un énorme merci pour ces soirées partagées autour d'un barbecue et de rires échangés !Un séjour (trop)court pour nous, mais nous comptons bien revenir rapidement !

Every kind of wonderful

We had a fantastic time at Chez John! The pool was amazing, the property was brilliantly equipped and our hosts, Nigel and Jan could not have done more to make sure we felt welcome and had a relaxing break. The property is effectively 'a semi' but Nigel and Jan sensitively balanced maintaining our privacy to enjoy their wonderful gite, garden and pool with being on hand to help in anyway we needed. We all, including our teenage boys, had a wonderful time with many happy memories. Thank you.

Excellent séjour dans un trés bel endroit

Nous avons été trés bien accueillis par des hôtes charmants dans une belle maison au calme, proche de la nature. Nous disposions de tout le nécessaire et d'une piscine chauffée avec transats, parasols et jeux d'eau . Persoonlijke aandacht

Nigel en Jan hebben zich als uitstekende gastheer en gastvrouw opgesteld. In het huisje was echt alles aanwezig. Bij aankomst was de koelkast zelfs gevuld! Zelf aan de hond was gedacht met hondensnoepjes. Mooie en rustige omgeving. Heerlijk zwembad. Als je van natuur en rust houdt is dit een ideale plek. Nigel en Jan zijn je In alles behulpzaam, maar op een leuke en ongedwongen manier. Aanrader!

A lovely relaxing enjoyable holiday.

Nigel and Jan couldn’t have been more welcoming, we got a little lost quite close to the Gite, so rang Nigel who came and found us. We were invited to their side for welcome drinks and had a lovely chat which was informative. We spent a lot of time around the pool which was heated and had a good amount of inflatables which reverted us all back to childhood ! As well as a fridge in the beach hut very useful and used a lot in the heat. There were some pretty towns and villages around the area and most places were drivable within between 10-30 minutes Brantome which was only about 30-40 minutes was beautiful with its weirs, shops and bars/restaurants and also has a great market. Nigel and Jan took us to the local Farmers market which had live music and BBQ and there are lots of other local markets to visit. Our dog Tigger made great friends with Nigel and Jan’s dog Zeyna and they had daily play times enjoyed by all, Nigel helped by making the Vets appointment for us and drove me there as well which was great. All in all I think Nigel and Jan were fantastic hosts they thought of everything we needed including supplying Wine soft drinks beer and plenty of food for our first evening with dessert ! It was delicious, we also had a trip to the local bar which was a 15 minute walk away. Mostly we relaxed by the pool and enjoyed eating and drinking under the gazebo outside the Gite when it was very hot, we did a BBQ and invited our hosts which was a very enjoyable and fun evening. All in all a great holiday with great hosts who thought of everything. Louise, Michael, Rob, Dolly and Tigger.
