WELL COTTAGE is a beautiful and unusual detached cottage on a quiet cul-de-sac.
About Bette Roberts
Well Cottage is owned by my Mum, Bette. Both my Mum and I run Well Cottage as a business and enjoy sharing this property with others. We love the fact that Well Cottage as an unusual and unique property which not 'not had its heart removed giving guests a truly authentic experience of modern meeting 16th Century. Once in the cottage you will feel its charm and feel its the peace of time in this detached cottage with an original Well in the Garden and having so much history and character attached to it. It was a "gem of a find" when my Mum and Dad originally bought it back in 1994 and we will never want to sell it!
Bette Roberts purchased this Cottage in 1994
Why Bette Roberts chose Bourton-on-the-Water
Because it has so much character and in the words of some of our reviewers on Trip Advisor: "perfect location within Bourton on the Water", "Lovely quiet cottage", "Beautiful cottage", "Absolutely enchanting", "worth every penny", "loved this cottage, sad to leave", "Well appointed cottage, quiet and peaceful in a picturesque setting"..................and many more.
What makes this Cottage unique
This is a unique cottage because it is one of the oldest cottages in the village which has managed to retain its original features and even has a well in the garden which would have been used by local farm hands when Bourton on the Water was mostly farm land.

Our Winter Oasis
My husband and I always dreamed of staying in a cosy picturesque British cottage and Well Cottage was so perfect! The bed we slept in was very comfortable, and the kitchen was well stocked with all the tools you need to make a meal. The cottage is located in the village and everything you need is within walking distance. You can exchange money at the local post office around the corner, and the CO-OP grocery store is a 10 min walk. I spoke with Dawn during our trip, and when we accidentally locked ourselves out upon arrival, she was really quick to remedy the situation. Bourton-on-the-Water is one of the prettiest villages in the Cotswalds and centrally located to the many interesting things you can see while there. We miss it already and I really hope we'll be able to return in the future.
Winter Break at Well Cottage
Myself and my family had a lovely and very relaxing stay at Well Cottage. The property was exactly as we had hoped, full of character and unique English charm. The beams, the creaky floor boards, all fabulous and exactly as you would expect in such an old cottage. The property has been beautifully cared for and the decor is perfect. It is a very cosy space and the wood burner and beautiful inglenook fireplace was a great place to relax at the end of a day sightseeing. The location was fantastic for exploring the Cotswolds, both nearby villages and a little further afield such as Bath and Oxford.
The welcome bread and jam was a very welcoming gesture, which we appreciated very much. Thank you for a great stay 😊

Excellent mini break just before Christmas. Perfect location just a two minute walk from the town centre. Lovely cosy cottage, 2 good size bedrooms with all amenities you could wish for and a great log burner too! Would recommend to anyone looking for a great Cotswold's location. We are hoping to return later next year.

This is obviously a much loved cottage, you can see that from the carefully chosen furniture and the attention to detail. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful, the location was perfect and we had a great time!

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the "Heart of England". The name Cotswold means "sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides". The Cotswolds is the largest area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales. Bourton-on-the Water is famous for its High Street, flanked by long wide greens and the River Windrush which is crossed by several low, arched stone bridges which have lead Bourton being called the "Venice of the Cotswolds". Bourton is regularly voted the prettiest village in the cotswolds.
As well as having numerous shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes and attractions, Bourton is wonderfully positioned for walkers with the various long-distance footpaths and local walks which start and finish or pass through Bourton, including the Windrush Way and the Heart of England Way, which begins its 100 mile route in the village.
The list below is a very small sample to give you a flavour for the wide range of attractions and activities that are available in and around the Cotswolds. There is also a local Tourist Information Centre in Bourton on the Water which can give you much more information:
- Blenheim Palace
- Warwick Castle
- Cheltenham Race Course
- Cotswold Farm Park
- Batsford Arboretum
- Highgrove (book in advance)
- Broadway Tower Country Park
- Snowshil Manor and Garden
So much to see, too little time!
