Great stay

Super property with all we needed. Comfortable and clean. Domestic essentials were provided, mot the case in many properties, but tea coffee and milk as well as washing up and dish washer kit. One of the prettiest villages in NYNNP with a pub, tea rooms and a great rural museum

Do not book a holiday with Host and Stay!Do not stay at this property in Hutton le Hole without guarantees that a lot of work has been done here.We stayed at the house in September 2026 and there were 5 adults so we particularly booked this because it was 4 bedrooms. When we arrived one of the bedrooms was not made up and we saw the room was flooded through a leak in the roof with plastic tubs down to catch water. It was too late to go anywhere else and two of our adults had to share when the whole point was we needed 4 bedrooms. Despite calls to the host and stay team they did nothing for us while there. We also found the dishwasher still had food in it, some cleaning was not done, and the hob was broken so it can only be off or on the maximum setting of 9.The latter items we could have lived with as the area was lovely, but the lack of a fourth bedroom was a huge let down for us. Since they we have complained repeatedly about this and been told the issue is still under investigation 21 days on. Their policy is 7-10 days turnaround on complaints and now they have stopped responding to us altogther. They acknowledged in writing there was a major issue with the bedroom and we should have been told in advance. They apologised for the cleaning and hob issues. But when we ask for compensation they repeatedly say it is with the resolution team, hoping we go away. Do not stay here. Do not book anything with Host and stay and hope to have a problem addressed.

Thank you for taking the time to leave detailed feedback about your stay in Hutton le Hole. I’m very sorry to hear about the issues you experienced during your stay and for the disappointment caused. Please accept our sincere apologies that one of the bedrooms was flooded and not made up on arrival, and for the impact this had on your group's accommodation arrangements. We understand how important having four functioning bedrooms was for your booking and we regret that two members of your party had to share. We note your comments regarding cleanliness and the dishwasher, and apologise for the inconvenience caused by the hob being unusable except at the highest setting. Your feedback about the communication and the length of time taken to address your complaint is noted. We are investigating this matter and will act on your comments to improve our processes. While we cannot comment on compensation here, your case is with our resolution team and we appreciate your patience. Thank you again for bringing these issues to our attention, and we’re sorry your experience fell short of expectations.

Fantastic position, the village is superb, cosy cottage, well equipped, VERY comfortable beds!

Hutton-Le-Hole is in a brilliant position on the moors for visiting both rural areas and the coastline. The village is quaint with a few cafes, craft shops and the Ryedale Folk Museum which is fascinating and a definite place to visit. Greengate Cottage is cosy, has character, is well equipped and is very comfortable. We loved sitting outside, watching the moorland sheep all around the cottage! There are several great pubs, including The Crown in Hutton le Hole which is less than a minute's walk from the cottage. We thoroughly recommend both the cottage and the area.

Historic, Quaint, Comfortable Cottage in a Beautiful English Village

We spent 7 nights at Greengate Cottage and had a lovely time. The cottage is perfectly tidy and welcoming with plenty of space (we traveled with a family of 7). The locals were all friendly, especially at The Crown pub. We made several day trips which worked out great: London (long day but you can't travel to England and not see London), steam locomotive to Whitby, drives across the moor, walks to neighboring villages, and last but not least, Castle Howard. All were within short drives of the cottage and in a wonderful setting. We miss this wonderful cottage and village already. Thanks David!

Disappointing

The property itself is lovely. Unfortunately the heating broke while we were there meaning the temperature inside the cottage dropped to 10 degrees. Despite best efforts to get someone to sort this out, and a promise of someone coming out to address the issue with the boiler, nobody arrived. Consequently the trip was very disappointing and the support from the holiday company less than satisfactory. Apparently they are still waiting to hear back from the owner but I don't hold out much hope of anything being forthcoming. Hopefully nobody else suffers the same experience.

We value your feedback as it helps us improve our service, and we will do our best to provide better support in the future. Again, our apologies for any discomfort this caused. We hope you’ll consider staying with us again in the future, and we’ll work hard to ensure that your next visit is a much more pleasant experience.

Stunning cottage

We had an excellent stay in Greengate cottage within the postcard village of Hutton-le-Hole. The property was very clean, specious & extremely tastefully decorated. It was well equipped and the extra touch of arriving to fresh milk was appreciated :-) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning.

Cosy cottage in a most picturesque village.Ideal situation for touring the area.

Just returned from a family holiday in this beautiful area of North Yorkshire, Three generations have all enjoyed the facilities and comfort of the cottage with lots and lots to see and do locally. We have had some lovely walks and lots of fun in the cottage playing games. The Grandchildren loved the roaming sheep and village ice creams, owl spotting and general quietness of not being in a big town. The cottage had everything we needed. Stairs might be a bit steep and narrow for anyone with a disability.

A good place to stay.

Beautiful cottage in lovely village, very helpful owner. Comfortable and well equipped with books and games for both adults and children. It would be helpful to have a map of exactly where the cottage is..hard to find on a dark December evening! We were glad to be able to get in early given the time of year. Lovely cleaning lady too. Many thanks for a good weekend break. Ps playroom radiator not working- perhaps needs bleeding?

Lovely cosy cottage beautifully decorated and very clean

My family and I stayed for 2 nights in December for a family celebration. My niece loved the 2 stairways and loved exploring. The cottage was equipped with everything you could possibly need, including a cupboard full of games. We would have loved to stay longer. It is in a great location for visiting Whitby and nearby coastal towns as well as York and the dales. I can definitely recommend this cottage and we would love to return in the Summer.

A perfect family holiday

A traditional cosy Yorkshire cottage, it was clear from the moment we walked in that the cottage has been maintained to a very high standard, all items such as wifi, TV & heating were left with good clear instructions. The crown pub in the village is well worth a visit the landlord is very welcoming and the food is fantastic. The village also has its own chocolate factory which was a favourite with our son. Scarborough, Whitby, York & Dolby forest are all within easy reach and well worth a visit. We especially enjoyed after a long day out exploring a relaxing evening in cosy surroundings in front of the open fire with a large glass of red wine!! We will definitely be recommending to friends and family and have already booked for next year.

In need of a lot of TLC and de cluttering

The house has family photos in and far too many pans and plates and clutter. When we go away we want a place to feel our own and not as if we are visiting relatives. The kitchen cupboard had food in from previous occupants and not just the last ones. The cleaner cannot possibly keep the place clean with so much clutter. The bathrooms were in need of a make over and were rather dirty. I cannot imagine the owner has visited recently.

We are surprised to hear the issues raised as Greengate Cottage is a cosy cottage that aims to provide provisions for parties of up to 8 people. We have a couple of family photos in the cottage as it is used as a family home. We leave some non-perishable items in the kitchen, such as tea, coffee, herbs and spices for our guests benefit. We have, without exception, over the last 14 years, been commended on Greengate Cottage, its location and its family friendliness, supported with positive comments in the visitor’s book, such as 'We have been renting holiday cottages around the UK for many years and Greengate is in our top three'. It is regularly maintained and we would encourage guests to look at the photos of Greengate Cottage on this website.

Terrific Cottage in Superb Village

As a last minute booking we were absolutely delighted to stay at the Greengate in Hutton-le-hole. The cottage is in the centre of the village with plenty of character. The rooms are very spacious and very comfortable. The village is a fantastic setting with things to do. Very very recommendable to anyone wanting a relaxing or exploring break away
