The home was perfect for our family of 4 (us and 2 young adult kids). Near a subway station and some great restaurants across the river. Fully equipped with all we needed for a comfortable stay. Instructions in English were very helpful. Host was very responsive. Having 2 bathrooms was great. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.
We spent 2 nights and we had a great time. Kitchen well equipped, great location, near a canal and easy to park next to the canal. The area was very quiet and apartment very comfy. We especially enjoy the bathtub (similar to a private onsen) after a long day of walks!
Host very responsive and professional. Thanks so much.
The easiest of check in processes, excellent and detailed directions, anticipating the questions the taxi driver would ask. Everything in the house is labeled in English and easily understandable. Awesome location, right by the river and a fabulous running biking path. Nice restaurants nearby, short walk to Kyoto station.very clean and with nice forniture and kitchenware.
We loved this location along the Kamo river. Walkable to the train station or subway. Found some excellent restaurants. The apartment was huge and so clean, quiet. It was probably bigger than we needed after our friends couldn’t come with us. Love the small arare /senbei shop across the street and the lady who owns/runs it.
We stayed for four nights in the fourth-floor unit, which was clean and well-appointed. It not a big space, but it worked for my family (wife, three kids ages 9-13, and me). The second bathroom was nice. It was a short walk to the subway (though we took taxis most of the time since the subway's coverage is limited and not as frequent). The street is quiet, though there is not much food nearby (across the bridge had the best options). Overall, I would recommend staying here.
We absolutely loved our stay in this beautiful apartment! Communication with the host was impeccable! We found the accommodation information packet especially helpful: from advice for navigating Kyoto to restaurant and landmark recommendations. Everything in the apartment itself was perfect! So clean, stylishly decorated, and well-stocked! Loved the instructions for operating devices (even in English). We will absolutely stay here again on our next trip to Kyoto! Finally, we have several friends planning a trip to Japan and have already insisted they simply must stay at Private Residence Kyoto Sakura!
When I first reserved this apartment, there were no reviews, which made me think twice. Then I looked on Google Earth at the address and found an empty lot which freaked me out! But the google photo was out of date -- this is a brand new building, and a very nice one.
The design and finishes are modern and clean, exactly as shown in the photos. While cozy by American standards, my son and I felt we had plenty of space compared to a typical Japanese hotel room. We each had our own room for sleeping and room to relax in the main kitchen/living space. The kitchen is well appointed with attractive dishes and glassware, practical pots, and a decent refrigerator.
The main bath has a wonderful wooden tub as well as a shower, and we made use of both. There are two separate toilet rooms. I actually took photos of the wastebaskets, I liked them so much.
As to location, we walked to the main rail station a few times, and to the private Keisei line across the river. There are not many food establishments in the immediate area, but if you range 10 to 15 minutes in any direction, you will find something. You can spot the temples at Kiyomizu-dera across the river, and could easily walk to some of the sights in that direction. Fushimi Inari is a few short stops away via bus or train. Bird-watchers will appreciate the river!
The gentleman who met us upon arrival was very friendly, helpful, and thorough, and spoke very good English (our command of Japanese being close to non-existent).
My only caution is to keep expectations low with the use of the washing machine. The cycle is long, like 3+ hours, and though the instructions mention a "dry" mode, forget that. You will hang dry your clothes.
Last note: when I reserved, I failed to realize the price was listed in British Pounds Sterling, and I paid in US Dollars -- a significant difference. But no complaints; we felt we got good value for our money with all the extra space, pleasant surroundings, and good location. I would reserve here again.
