Very grand and beautifully decorated house attached to the castle. Really had the wow factor. Quiet, amazing views, lovely wildlife around. And very close to the sea.
We had a fantastic week at Balcomie, the house and grounds are just fabulous, the location is perfect, especially for golfers, and Carly and her family made us very welcome. We hope to come back again soon.
We stayed at Balcomie for a week in April/May, and the description truly doesn’t do it justice. It’s a stunning castle—beautifully updated inside for modern comfort, yet still full of charm and rich with historic touches. The views from the property are absolutely breathtaking, and the surroundings only add to its magic. Carly was incredibly helpful and made our stay even more enjoyable. We would highly recommend Balcomie without hesitation—it’s an unforgettable place to stay.
Balcomie Farms is a wonderful experience. The property is spectacular and a wonderful location for golfers.
The host Carly is very detailed and is extremely knowledgeable of Fife.
A wonderful vacation.
Had another lovely stay at Balcomie bringing the family to experience the lovely accomodation. My grandsons loved it. The house is so comfortable and one of the best equiped we have stayed in and we have been in quite a few. So handy for the golf course my sons in law could not have been happier being keen golfers. I would have no hesitation in returning or recommending to friends.
We spent a wonderful week at Balcomie castle. It was a beautiful and bucolic setting, surrounded by acres of barley and just 2 minutes from Crail. Highly recommended.
Our 2.5 month stay at Balcomie Castle Farm House was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived—with our toddler, infant, grandparents, and all the gear that comes with them—we felt completely welcomed. The setting is breathtaking: a short walk to a gorgeous beach, with the Fife Coastal Path nearby for daily rambles. Our two-year-old was in heaven feeding the friendly sheep, horses, and dogs and exploring the surrounding farms and gardens. The property offers endless adventures for curious kids, yet feels peaceful and tucked away. A grocery store, greengrocer, pharmacy, and pub are just minutes away by car or a pleasant walk.Living in an authentic Scottish castle was extraordinary, made even better by its beautiful restoration. Inside, it’s warm, elegant, and exceptionally comfortable—perfect for colder months. We loved the fireplace, spacious living areas, heated tile floors, huge bathtubs, comfortable beds, and thoughtful modern amenities. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame spectacular views while keeping you cozy inside.Carly and Gary are exceptional hosts—kind, responsive, and especially wonderful with our two-year-old, taking time to play with him and even bringing him along on little adventures around the property. Their generosity made our stay unforgettable. It felt less like a rental and more like a home, and we’re already dreaming of returning.
Comfortable modern lodging in an old farmhouse surrounded by fields of green, plenty of sheep and birds. Short walk to beach and golf, longer walk to fishing village. All around excellent.
Had a great stay at Balcomie very warm and comfortable house for get together with friends. Handy for Crail centre and golf club. I would have no hesitation in returning or recommending to others.
This property is perfect. Can’t say anything negative about it. We loved the space, the warmth, the cleanliness, the area and the hosts. Thank-you for making part of our holiday so full of great memories!
One of the finest properties that we have had the privilege of access to. Carli and her family could not have been lovelier. Everything was thought of and anticipated for our stay. The linens were lovely and fresh, the beds exceptionally comfortable, the property was immaculately maintained and sparkling clean. A special shout out to Carli's Mum who was also so lovely. Cannot say enough about how we loved our time there.
We stayed at Balcomie for a week the first week of May. The accommodations were spotless, the kitchen exceptionally equipped, the beds were comfortable and the grounds Beautiful We had a pair of pheasant to observe everyday.
There are golf courses nearby: Balcomie, Kings Barns, Castle Course , Anstruther. Plus a short drive to all the St Andrews courses.
Hiking along the Fife Coastal Path is lovely and just a few steps away. The village of Crail is worth a day of strolling around.
We will definitely return.
The views are amazing, we arrived around 9:30 in the evening and could see a bit of what we were going to see in the morning but nothing prepared us for how tranquil, beautiful and peaceful this home is. We were greeted by the natural wildlife of the area and the beauty of the North Sea all in the background of Crail. The house had everything we needed and the host was so welcoming and helpful with all our needs. The home has been renovated with all the modern needs. We spoked from there to Edinburgh, Lock Ness & Isle of Skye, and while those drives were long, it was worth it to stay in this beautiful home. Thank you for having us, we will return in the years to come!
I am a repeat visitor which should speak volumes for how I feel about Balcomie Farmhouse. Carly has done a great job of making the home as comfortable as possible, and the fact that there are three bedrooms and three full baths means that up to three couples (or a good-sized family) can enjoy their privacy but still have a fully functioning kitchen and large cushy living room to dine and converse. The proximity to two of the best classic golf courses in Scotland can't be beat; you don't even need a car to walk to clubhouse and golf course (just 12 minutes). The views of farmland in the front of the house and farmland and the North Sea to the rear are postcard perfect. Wildlife abounds; I've seen deer, pheasant, rabbits and the farmhouse chickens from the farmhouse windows. All in all, I will be back again...and again, I hope.

Distilled Scotch
Staying at Balcomie was pure Scotland, if you could distill it into a bottle it would make for a very fine aged scotch. The way the light fell on the hay bales in the fields leading down to the sea was so iconic the scene begged to be painted. And the farm house itself was Classic... Comfortable, spacious, and the perfect place to enjoy a cup of tea after coming in from a wild and woolly walk along the cliffs. The surrounding area was beautiful as well, particularly if you like quintessential Scottish fishing villages with their cottages and chip shops and cozy pubs. I don't play golf but if I did, I'd have enjoyed A day on the Balcomie Links -- with grass so green and sky so blue, and the farmhouse silhouetted on the rise in the distance!
We arrived late on a rainy, cold evening after the airline lost our luggage. This home was a perfect welcome. We instantly felt at home. Clean, updated, well stocked….the heated tile! The host was exceptional and made our stay most enjoyable. The beds were comfortable and we are still talking about the delicious lemon bars. The location of the home was perfect for exploring Scotland. It was a short drive to visit our daughter at St Andrew’s and we spent each night enjoying time together either around the cozy kitchen table or in front of the fireplace in the living room.
I can’t say enough about the beautiful property. It was such a peaceful stay. We always felt well taken care of. This is truly a gem and would make any holiday more magical. Thank you for opening your home to us. Scotland is so beautiful and your home was the ideal place to reconnect as a family and make memories to last a lifetime.
Amazing stay very clean and tidy host was very nice and welcoming. Also made us some cake which was delicious thank you :) also has every thing you’d find at home there comfy beds very homely. Would defiantly go back. Thank you so much !!
This was our fourth stay at Balcomie, and everything was just as wonderful as ever. Helpful hosts, stunning location, well-stocked kitchen, fantastic wood-burner, and so peaceful and spotlessly clean. Proximity to the Coastal Path, Cambo Gardens and Crail, as well as other nearby sites and towns such as St Andrews and Anstruther, makes it a perfect location for a variety of outings. An absolutely lovely property!
