The nearby small town of Alford (8 miles) has all the local amenities you might expect including an excellent butcher, a post office a number of excelent independent shops, cafes and a Co-op supermarket and 2 small convinience stores as well as the Alford Heritage Museum, Grampian Transport Museum and the Alford Valley Community Railway with the market town of Huntly (12 miles) in the opposite direction with its local shops, cafes and 2 large supermarkets, Asda and Tesco, who will both deliver to the cottages.
The Cairngorm National Park is 25 minutes away with the Lecht Ski Centre for the winter months and mountain biking in the summer.
The Tomintoul & Glenlivet Cairngorms was awarded Dark Sky Status in November 2018. It is Scotland's Second International Dark Sky Park and the Darkest Park in the UK and the most Northerly Dark Sky Park in the World.
There is also Golf, Walking, Fishing or even Go-carting all nearby. We are situated on the Castle Trail and just off the Whisky Trail or you could visit one of the coastal villages such as Portsoy and Newburgh or just enjoy the stunning beaches of North East Scotland.
The main city of Aberdeen with its Airport and Exhibition centre is 45 mins away with Museums, Restaurants and shopping as well as sight seeing.
We also have a 2 bedroom cottage which can also be booked with the Byre if your party needs more space.
Please note, Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement, but must not be left in the cottage alone during your stay and be kept on a lead at all times when outside the property as there is no enclosed area by the cottage and our livestock are usually nearby.

About the host
Hosted by Thomas and Fiona Jackson

Boghead is home to Thomas and Fiona and Ewan as well as 4 dogs Red the working collie and Glen who is Red's apprentice, Storm and Rum who are both Working Cocker Spaniels and Harvey the ginger cat.
Thomas is from generations of Farmers and Fiona works for the NHS. She also runs her own business on the farm as a qualified Reflexologist offering Foot and Hand Treatments. Ewan is a qualified personal trainer and helps out on the farm.
We moved to Boghead from Gloucestershire in 2012 bringing our farm animals and equipment with us, the first winter some of the animals lived in what is now the holiday cottage. We run Aberdeen Angus Beef cattle (the local breed) and Vendeen sheep on this small traditionally run farm.
In 2013 we started the process of converting the run down steading into two holiday cottages with the first being completed in August 2016 and this one opening in June 2019
