About this property

Sunset Cottage, Manasota Key, Two minute walk to beautiful Gulf of Mexico beach!

Sunset Cottage is located on the southern end of Manasota Key, just steps from the Gulf of Mexico. Less than a block away, Stump Pass State Park offers you a mile or more of undisturbed wildlife and beaches. The Sunset Cottage provides all the comforts of home, with easy access to the beach right across the quiet street. If you want to enjoy sunsets on the beach, fishing, shelling, hiking and swimming by day, and fun evenings at home or at one of the great local restaurants, then this cottage is for you. You can even rent a boat slip nearby for easy access to Lemon Bay or the ocean.

The kitchen is stocked with all the utensils you might want at the beach including a blender, microwave oven, and more. One bedroom has a queen-size bed, the second bedroom has two twin beds, and the living room has a sleeper sofa that can accommodate two more people. Everything will be fresh and comfortable for your stay.

Evenings at the beach can be spent star-gazing, or playing one of the many board games provided. Maybe you prefer karaoke at the local tiki bar, about a quarter of a mile up the beach. Or maybe your idea of a good time is watching a movie on the DVD player or VCR. Cable TV is included as well as internet access. The cottage has a great selection of books if you just want to browse our nonfiction selections or get lost in a novel.

Kick back on the screened lanai, or use our charcoal grill to serve home-cooked steak! Early mornings, you can listen to the sounds of the island waking up or go for a run on the quiet two-lane road. Trees shade the lanai with lush vegetation. An eagle nests in a nearby pine tree. Butterflies are attracted by the jasmine and other fragrant flowers in the yard. Turtle nests are protected on the beach and you will often find local citizens on “turtle patrol” safeguarding these special nesting grounds. Nature is at its best at this island retreat, and we have collected sharks teeth, shells, driftwood, and polished stones on each of our visits.

One of the best things about this cottage is it's location. It's a block from Stump Pass State Park. There are 265 acres of quiet walking trails and pristine beaches. Here you can find a section of beach all to yourself. Awesome wildlife abounds; you will see pelicans diving for fish, dolphins and manatee swimming along the shore, and sometimes schools of fish jumping. Sandpipers run up and down the beach as the tide recedes, and the breeze tickles your face as the waves lap at your toes.

Sunset Cottage is a recently renovated duplex, and each unit is rented separately, with the one in the back called "Sunrise" and the one in the front called "Sunset." Each has its own entrance and lanai, and the furnishings are similar. Both are located at ground level, so there are no steps to climb. This makes it ideal for those who have trouble climbing steps, or for those with young children. It's a lot easier to come and go to the beach when you don't have to climb stairs.

If you have enjoyed Manasota Key before, you know it is a unique Florida beach, without high-rise hotels and fast food restaurants. It feels like the Florida of simpler times, and has only a two-lane road and no red-lights. This is the perfect place to get away from it all, to reconnect with family or friends, and to recharge your batteries. What a bargain, in a great location. Feel free to call for more information or more pictures.

Great Location, Wonderful Hostess
Three of us did a Girl's Trip for a week to Nancy's cute cottage! The location is perfect, just a short walk across the street to the Gulf and an easy drive to anything we wanted/needed. Check-in was a breeze, and Nancy's communication was perfect! We had a small issue with power to the microwave, and Nancy sent an electrician the same day. The cottage is well stocked with kitchen items, towels and beach items. I'm already talking about going back for a trip with my daughters! Thank you, Nancy, for sharing your lovely cottage with us!

January on Manisota Key, FL.
The Sunset Cottage was perfect for us. Two retired adults. We love the beach and the neighborhood. It's quiet and within easy walking distance to many points of interest. Our host was gracious and accommodating. The screened porch was welcoming, a good place for lunch or reading or just sitting. We are sad to leave, but plan to come back again. Thank you Nancy.

Sweet cottage, clean, comfy! Very quiet neighborhood, super-convenient in getting to the beach. Lots of beach supplies! We have stayed here before and this year brought family members along because we like this property so much!

Our family loves to spend time at the beach. It was a perfect place for our kids to learn the names for sea shells, to learn respect for the power of the ocean, to nurture the wildlife, and to test new skills like bike riding and skim boarding. Being able to relax with our family in one of two parts of the duplex, with our parents in the other, afforded us time together, as well as apart. We have our favorite hang-outs, as you will too. At night, you can choose to walk to a restaurant on the island, or venture a little further to the mainland. Or sometimes, we like to stay home, cook dinner on the grill, toast the sunset, and then watch an old video or play board games (how old school is that?).

We recently renovated and updated everything in both units of the duplex, and hope you will enjoy the all modern indoor comforts as well as the outdoor living. Our most recent passion is star gazing, which is awesome at this end of the beach, when all the lights are turned off during turtle nesting season. It is exciting to wake up in the morning and find new turtle nests on the beach, but those night time skies are also incredible.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property because the beach was quaint, and seemed to be untouched by the commercialism that has taken over many places. It reminded us of the visits we had to our grandparents' house in the 1950s on Ft. Myers Beach. We love that you can still walk down the street barefooted, and chase the waves, but easily come home for a drink or a snack.

What makes this property unique

Our cottage is cozy and fun, but not pretentious. It really does make you feel like you are in a place out of time. We feel so relaxed and laid back here that we try new things, and relish our traditions. Since this house was built before beach properties were required to be built high above the ground, it was easy for us not to worry about the kids falling down steps, or for my older parents to have a hard time getting up to the house. Those are some of the reasons we chose this "Island Time" Cottage.
