The apartment is at the top of a building in the historical centre of the medieval Tuscan city of Lucca. With windows on all four sides, it has views, wonderful light and great peacefulness. There is a lovely terrace and rooftop garden overlooking the cathedral of San Martino. Modernised in 2013, it is comfortable and well equipped, with air conditioning, fibre optic WiFi, Netflix - perfect for a family or one/two couples. The location is unbeatable, minutes from the city's heart and close also to the 4km of tree covered ramparts, now Lucca's main park.
You will be greeted at the apartment by Sabrina, a native of the city, who has excellent English and a deep knowledge and love of the place. She will do everything to make your stay enjoyable. Ask her where to eat, what to see, how to best use your time.
Lucca is one of the most beautiful Italian cities. Full of history and culture, nestled in a bowl of mountains, it is peaceful and relaxed, perfect for slow tourism, never overrun by people even in summer, largely free of cars within the walls. The pace is easy, the food good. You can see almost everything you want on foot. Biking is comfortable and safe.
Lucca is also an excellent place from which to explore the whole region, the mountainous Garfagnana to the north or the great centres of Tuscany. Florence is only an hour by train or car, Pisa half that. The railway station is ten minutes from the apartment and services frequent and good value. Even Rome is only three hours away by fast train via Florence, Milan and Venice less than four.
Please note: this building, like most in central Lucca, has no elevator. There are 50 steps to the top floor entrance of the apartment. They will cause no difficulty to an able-bodied person, but if you have problems with stairs, please contact us and we will be happy to help you assess. Lucca is very much a walking city.
