About this property
Beautiful and spacious family villa near Gordes, Provence
The property is enclosed in one hectare of local vegetation - olive trees, lavenders, rosemary and other provencal species - with no immediate neighbours. Set up on two floors, the 250 m2 house is composed of large and airy rooms with elegant and modern furniture - though practical and comfortable. Bright living spaces, with a fully-equipped large kitchen, are located on the ground floor. Most bedrooms are located on the first floor - except for 2 more quiet bedrooms with en-suite at the back of the house on the ground floor, allowing access from the outside. Several shaded terraces surround the house on the top and ground floor, one being an outdoor dining area equipped with a plancha and a sink. The newly refurbished swimming-pool (12x6m) is protected by stone walls and gates. The spaces are lit by sunshine most of the day but the strong walls protect the inside rooms from the heat. Set up on a hill, the property benefits from cooler temperatures than in the valley and from beautiful views onto the village and the Luberon hills. The village of Gordes - labelled one of the most beautiful villages in France - is accessible by foot, and many walking trails can be explored departing from the house.

About the host
Hosted by Jeanne
We are a multi-cultural multi-lingual family, currently based in England. We have 4 children; our youngest is born in this house in Provence where we have so many fantastic family memories. We try to escape as often as possible to our house in Gordes to make the most of the sunshine, the lovely smells, the peace and quiet, whatever the season.
Why they chose this property
At the time we bought the house, we were living in a big grey city and were desperate to spend our holiday in a warm, sunny and bright place with plenty of space for the children to run around. Nothing beats Provence for its colours, smells, light and plaisir de vivre. We all love cooking and can't get enough of going to markets, finding new producers and tasting new wines. Its is a great place for us to spend time with friends and families as the house benefits from large open spaces and separated areas.
What makes this property unique
While in a very quiet lane with very few neighbours, the house is located within walking distance from the village of Gordes, equipped with a few shops, bars and restaurants, and a weekly market. Two bedrooms are set up with terraces overlooking the village and the Luberon, allowing quiet times to read or watch the stars. As we love cooking, the newly refurbished kitchen is fully equipped to cater for large gatherings and the outdoor terrace contains a plancha (wood fire are totally forbidden most of the year, because of the risks of fires) and a long wooden table to fit many guests. Thanks to the house position on a hill, temperatures are always cooler than down in the valley, which is definitely an asset in the summer. Also the thick traditional white walls, while reflecting the light, keep the heat at bay together with the old-fashioned terracotta floor. The house is nicely but simply furnished, with a mix of traditional and modern furniture; while keeping it easy to live in, we have added many personal touches and rejected the “for rent” look as the property is set up mainly for our own use.
