About this property
Shepherd's Hut Gorran Haven, Panoramic Ocean Views
Summary:
A beach-style Shepherd's hut situated right on the cliffs edge with breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean. Wake up to the sound of the sea and enjoy breakfast out on the deck! The hut features a well-equipped kitchen and small dining area ideal for meals for two, plus a bathroom with shower and toilet. Despite the remote nature, there is also high speed WIFI and a TV for cosy nights in, as well as a selection of books for keen readers.
The Space:
The hut is a short walk from local amenities, including pubs, shops, cafes and a fish and chip takeaway! Please note: Due to a combination of Winter and Covid difficulties, some of the local cafes and takeaways are closed. This is mainly in Gorran Haven, but there are still many pubs, cafes and restaurants open in nearby Gorran, Portmelon and Mevagissey.
There are few places where one can wake up to see, smell and hear the ocean all around you, but Perhaver Shepherd's Hut is one of them! Staying here is a truly relaxing experience, perfect for couples, lone travellers or a parent and child (12 and over). However, please do note the maximum number of guests we allow are two and the hut is not suitable for infants.
There is a well planned kitchen and dining area with hob, small oven, microwave, and fridge. Breakfast bar with tall stools and small fold down table with 2 chairs is your dining table for two or a desk for those lucky enough to work remotely.
The double doors can be opened to include the curved wooden deck as part of the living space. There is a BBQ, outdoor dining furniture and sun-loungers for two. Although the hut is great for summer days, with under-floor heating and excellent insulation, WIFI, and lots of books, it still makes the perfect winter getaway.
The lovely curved wooden deck with a rope balustrade overlooks a large lawned garden with a wide panoramic view of the bay. The cliff-scape and rocky headland to the east is dramatic and uplifting. There is garden around the hut. The 20 metre lawn slopes gently towards a surrounding hedge with the cliff edge beyond and sea below.
Parking is by the main house about 20 metres away. Access is down a short flight of steps from the parking area, along a sloping, slate pathway across the lawn, then steps lead up to the hut.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire hut and, although the main house is on the same property, the setup allows the hut to enjoy complete privacy.
The Neighborhood:
The Sheperd's Hut is perfectly situated to explore the best of what South Cornwall has to offer. Just 10 minutes walk away is the quaint harbour of Gorran Haven with a sandy beach and wall for fishing off. Here you can also enjoy local pubs, a few cafes, restaurants and a small shop for essentials. Other great pubs include the Barley Sheaf just up the road in Gorran Churchtown and the Llawnroc Hotel.
For the hikers, there are stunning coastal paths traversing most of the South Cornwall coast line. These are easy to pick up from several locations surrounding the hut, my favourite of which is the walk to the historic Dodmans Point. On the way you will pass Vault Beach - one of Cornwall's best kept secrets! This mile long stretch of white sand is the perfect escape from the summer crowds. Other great local beaches include Caerhays beach and castle and the quieter Hemmick. Both can be reached via coastal paths if you are feeling adventurous!
For those with transport, the larger fishing village of Mevagissey is well worth a visit. Here you can find ample gift shops with local crafts and produce, pubs serving real ale and lots of great cafes, takeaways and restaurants. Other notable local activities include the stunning Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project.
Getting Around:
Trains come regularly into St Austell train station and buses are available from here to Gorran Haven. Whilst there is lots to do in the local area, a car is recommended if you would like to explore further afield.
Other Things to Note:
Please note: infants and children under 12 are not permitted at the hut for both safety and insurance reasons.
As a shepherd's hut, the water pressure and temperature may not be what you are used to at home.
Interaction with Guests:
We will be available via message, email and phone during your stay. Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
