Beautiful, historic home in the heart of Whitby.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in a house that was really conveniently located and full of character. The house dates back to the 16 hundreds but has all the modern comforts we’ve come to expect. Church Street is a cobbled, pedestrianised Road that leads up to the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey. We could walk everywhere we wanted to go with ease and the range of local restaurants was very impressive. If you get past the fish and chip restaurants, try Cosa Nostradamus and Italian restaurant just two minutes walk from the house or Passage to India by the railway station. If you don’t like Italian or Indian, don’t worry there are plenty of other restaurants and Cafes to choose from and, of course, there is a fully equipped kitchen in the house. Our two granddaughters (aged 7 and 5) loved the house and Whitby itself. Even between Christmas and New Year the ice cream shops and amusement arcades were a must most days. Our two dogs (Cockerpoo aged 5 and Cocker aged 20 months) also loved their stay as Borough House and Whitby itself are incredibly dog friendly. Lots of shops, pubs and cafes welcome well behaved pooches. Running on the beaches or walking the Cinder Track proved very popular with our two.
Be prepared though that upon arrival and departure it can be tricky driving down Church Street to drop off or collect your luggage and your parking 15 minutes walk away on the other side of the harbour. These, however, are minor issues when your get to enjoy such a fabulous house in such a fantastic location.
