Private Rental Suite: Million Dollar View From Your Deck On 12 Acre Property
Our 12 acres overlooking Osoyoos is a million dollar view second to none. This rental apartment has a private entrance, kitchen, 2 living rooms, 2 queen bedrooms, 2 tv's, and a private deck all wrapped up in tasteful Moroccan decor with a Bohemian twist.
The 12 minute drive to town is close to the local amenities yet far enough away for privacy and tranquillity. Lake Osoyoos is Canada's warmest freshwater lake with an average summertime temperature of 24 degrees Celsius (75 degrees Fahrenheit). The crowds can get hectic in the summer tourist season and this suite allows you to pick and choose when and how you want to engage in the activities and when you want to rest in stillness.
Whether its yoga at sunrise, the spectacular views at sunset, or world-class views, we have you covered.
We welcome guests from all walks of life with open arms.
The Space:
Our large home is almost 5000 square feet and resides on 12 acres of desert landscape and is the natural habitat to wildlife. Big Horn Sheep are regularly sighted on our property as well as yellow-bellied marmots, and birds such as Bald-headed and Golden Eagles, owls (Pygmy and Great Horned), woodpeckers (including the 'sensitive and vulnerable species Lewis woodpecker' according to BC Bird Species List) , quail, hummingbirds and songbirds. We are approved Wildlife Habitat Stewards.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the 12 acres and there are several benches situated around the property at the higher levels.
The suite is ideal for 2-4 people; we have 2 bedrooms with queen beds. This tastefully furnished second bedroom is quiet and private and built on mountain bedrock so is raised up. The main comment from guests in that bedroom is "it is fit for royalty". ***Please note that if the second bedroom is used there is an additional $60 Fee manually added to cover linens and cleaning fees***
There is a living room between the 2 rooms and a smaller one near your private deck. There is a TV in the larger Master Bedroom and in the larger living room.
There are several seating areas around the acreage that is also available to our guests.
Interaction with Guests:
We often work from home and we leave it up to our guests as to how much contact they want. If you would like to be greeted upon your arrival to be shown around or help with your luggage, we can do that (especially if given notice so that we can book clients accordingly).
The Sahaja Suite (and Sadhana Room) are quite separate from the living quarters of the hosts so enjoy your stay in privacy but we are a text or call away should you need any questions answered or need supplies.
The Neighbourhood:
All neighbours own 10 acre lots or more on the sunny south slope of Anarchist Mountain and enjoy their privacy. It is secluded, quiet and restful. As such, the location is very peaceful and private.
Getting Around:
We are not on a bus route so you will need your own vehicle.
Other Things to Note:
We are an eco-friendly establishment and provide biodegradable shampoo bottles (not just recyclable but completely biodegradable) and earth-friendly supplies. We also have comprehensive recycling bins that we encourage our guests to use (but is not mandatory).

About Your Hosts Karen and Herman (Joined VRBO in 2017):
My partner Herman and I have always hosted guests whether it's friends over for home-cooked dinners, big outdoor parties, or longer visits from friends and relatives near and far.
Both of us have lots to share and we have a wide range of interests (as in very wide) that put people at ease no matter what their walk of life they are from. We are comfortable in the art world, spiritual or consciousness-raising realms, and in nature/the outdoors (ok maybe not politics so much).
Herman loves reading, personal growth, outdoor living skills, exploring and a good cup of coffee while Karen loves music, decorating, painting and a perfect cup of tea. We have recently added grand-parenting to our growing list of interests! Karen's studio is the workshop building on the premises and you can often spot her at work getting ready for a show. She currently has art hanging in the vacation rental suite and at Nk' Mip Cellars/Spirit Ridge just down the hill (has been there since about 2008). Any art of hers in the suite is available for sale. Endangered Ecosystem
We are in an “antelope-brush ecosystem” of the Okanagan which is one of the four most endangered ecosystems in Canada. It is a pocket of dry grassland dominated by bunchgrasses, the wind (atavatic and katavatic), and the scraggly dark branches of antelope-brush.
They weren’t extensive when European settlement began in the 1800’s, and over the past century more than 60 percent of them have been destroyed and converted to vineyards, orchards, croplands, or urban residential and industrial areas. Much of the remainder has been disturbed and invaded by foreign plants such as knapweed and cheat-grass. Only 9 percent now remains relatively undisturbed.
The antelope-brush ecosystem is poorly known, without the high public profile of an old-growth forest. In addition, grassland habitats are subtle in character, and changes may go unnoticed for a long time.
What is their history? These small ecosystems are remnants of communities with ancient origins, probably dating back 10,000 years. After the glaciers of the Pleistocene melted, plant migration and vegetation changes were widespread. In particular, Great Basin species (those from arid areas west of the Rockies) responded to a substantial warming about 8,000 years ago by moving northward into the hot, dry valley bottoms of what is now southern British Columbia.
Because of its small extent and the formidable threats to its integrity, the antelope-brush community on the lowland benches of the south Okanagan is considered one of Canada’s four most endangered ecosystems. Although antelope-brush grows in small pockets as far north as Kelowna, ecosystems dominated by this species occur mainly south of Penticton, where they cover sandy or gravelly soils at lower elevations. Less than 5,000 hectares remain, and over 60 percent of these areas lie within the Osoyoos Indian Reserve. Very little of the antelope-brush steppe is preserved within protected areas – two small ecological reserves north of Osoyoos protect token tracts, and one of these was almost entirely burned in 1993.
As Wildlife Habitat Stewards we protect our antelope brush which resides on our 12 acres.

Easy check-in process and everything was seamless from the start. The hosts were attentive, responsive, and incredibly welcoming throughout our stay. The views were absolutely spectacular — even better than expected. Would definitely stay here again!
This is our second time staying here and we absolutely love it. Cant say enough posiitve things about the place, its so cozy and quiet anc the hosts are just wonderful.
This beautiful suite has to be the most well stocked place we ever stayed during our travels over the years, the hosts have thought of everything. The pictures don’t do the place justice, the suite is much bigger than it appears in the pictures. Extremely nice hosts who attend to all your needs or questions in a very timely manner. Million dollar view is exact. Can’t wait to stay there again in the future.
A lovely basement suite, totally private from the main house; offers two living spaces, a private deck with an amazing view of the lake and valley. Kitchen is well stocked, and adding to the charm of this suite are the art creations of the owner. Privacy is respected, but the owner immediately responds if needed. We would definitely consider another visit to this lovely suite.
This was an excellent experience in a well equipped and spacious home with thoughtful and responsive hosts. Walking among the trees and hearing the birds in the morning was lovely as well.

Beautiful view over the valley and a short drive, on a spectacular road, down to town. Owners leave you alone in peace to enjoy your stay but are available if needed.
Everything was great. Lots of amenities provided by the hosts. The view was to die for. An absoute must to stay at if you're going to be at Osoyoos area.
This is one of the best equipped suites we stayed at and the vista is incredible. We truly enjoyed staying there and hope to be back soon. It is peaceful and relaxing and we loved seeing three deers coming by in the evening and having the dark skies and actually seeing satellites go by and naming constellations.
The property was tastefully decorated, the view s were spectacular, very quiet, the hosts provide many extras such as peanut butter, jam, salad dressing and laundry detergent. The kitchen was very well equipped. Host was very prompt and answered any queries very quickly.Would definitely recommend.
This location is truly beautiful and unique, surrounded by stunning natural scenery. The views are breathtaking. We were especially impressed by how comfortable the place was—every detail was thoughtfully provided. The hosts were responsive and kind, and their attention to detail was unmatched. We can't wait to return next year.
Everything thought up to a very little things, so we were feeling like at home. There is everything you need for staying for 5+ days. Amazing view, quietness, wild nature around that all you need for get rest from stressful everyday life.
Quiet, beautiful, roomy, comfortable home away from home.
Suite overlooks Osoyoos Lake from Anarchist Mountain location. Very quiet at night, with lovely breezes to help one cool off. Suite is very comfortable and spacious, with pretty much anything you might need for cooking, creature comfort, relaxing with books, tourist literature, or games. It is a unique experience quite different from the more common Osoyoos tourist choice of booking at a hotel on the main drag by the lake.
Awesome view. Very clean, Quiet location. Enjoyed the wildlife. Lots of room for the three of us. Enjoyed the car port- car always cool even on very hot days.
House was cool even on hot days - enjoyed not having an air conditioner.
Herman greeted us on arrival and gave us a tour or the house
We were there for five nights and although there were some challenges with the TV signal, the beds were super comfy and it was lovely and quiet which we are used to. We had deer visiting and a brief visit from a young black bear. This property is slightly out of the way but so worth it if you like a quiet place to stay. The suite itself was so well appointed. There was nothing that we needed that wasn't there.

Thank you for staying with us and glad you liked the wildlife (although the garbage wasn't picked up at the usual hour on our street that day and I suspect that is why the bear came sniffing about as it's very unusual)! Re the internet connectivity, we had recently signed up for 5G so called the provider as technically the service should be even better than it was (which was no problem before). So thank you for letting us know. We'd love to have you back! (and thanks also for the lovely note left in our Guest Book!). Karen & Herman

Fabulous view
What an amazing stay at Spirit Lodge! We were a little reluctant at first to book something that wasn't right in Osoyoos but upon arrival we quickly realized what an oasis this was and at the end of each day we were so happy to make our way up the hill to enjoy the tranquility and the glorious view. The unit is very spacious and is equipped with everything you could possibly need. Karen and Herman have gone above and beyond adding special touches like the welcome baskets with robes, slippers, and bath products. I will absolute book this again when I come back next year, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else!

What a pleasure having you as guests and thanks so much for the great review! We trust it will help others who may be concerned that we are 10-12 minutes from town. It's hard to describe how the few minutes drive transports guests into a different type of evening...and you did it very well!
Sunsets from above the lake are so much more than being on the lake. Also the stargazing!
We will see you back again soon we hope!
Just 12 minutes drive from the town a comfortable property with 2 good size double bedrooms comfy beds and masses of space. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a water cooler providing filtered drinking water A number of tasteful pieces of Karen’s art work are featured around the suite. There are 2 TV’s which both provide Netflix. There is a small deck with a table and chairs and a grill but the star of the show is the fantastic panoramic view over the lake!
Karen and Herman were great to deal with both in initial communication and during our stay.
Can thoroughly recommend this property and will definitely return here smouldering we come this way again 👍🏼

Wonderful Osoyoos views from a beautiful property!
Our apartment was in a home perched high in the mountains overlooking Osoyoos town and it's pretty lake. The views were just amazing! The apartment is clean, spacious and well-decorated with many art pieces from our talented hostess, Karen. Kitchen is well-stocked, living room comfortable with those great views, bedroom also a good size with very comfortable bed. A second attached bedroom is available if you are travelling with friends or family. There is also a private common room for your use upon entry to the unit. The bathroom was large and shower good. A small deck with BBQ is off the living room to take in those views with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Covered parking is provided. Herman was very helpful upon our arrival showing us the apartment. It is a short 10 minute drive into town for shopping, restaurants and nearby wineries. Thanks to our hosts for a memorable stay.

Thank you so much for the lovely review and for being incredible guests. We hope to see you back next year if not sooner!
My wife and I decided to take a break from our regular wintertime views and spent a week at this beautiful property. I can't ever remember when I spent more looking out the windows or off the deck at the amazing views and in awe at the cloud formations playing out below and around us! Mule deer, California Bighorn Sheep, bush bunnies, and a variety of winter birds were also spotted and enjoyed. The suite is very comfortable and roomy with a surprising selection of culinary accoutrements. (Teas, quality coffee, spices, condiments, etc.) In short order the place became a home away from home and the 12 km drive to/from town was something we looked forward to...feeling sometimes sorry for those trapped under the fog at lake level, while we were in residence above the clouds! (Hosts were warm and welcoming and their living nearby absolutely did not impact our stay.) We are already making plans to return again...

We are thrilled that you loved the view and got to see the wildlife (especially the Bighorn Sheep)! We wanted our space to truly feel like home which means it has to have all the cooking gear (condiments, spices, small appliances galore) and especially tea and coffee. We are currently staying at a vacation rental ourselves and it has 4 tea bags for 4 days stay and NO coffee et alone quality coffee. We look forward to hosting you again! Karen & Herman
The best week ever! This is exactly what we were hoping for- away from town but still close enough. In one week we came away feeling relaxed and fulfilled. The space was big, clean, quiet and the perfect hub from which to adventure around the southern Okanagan.
This might not matter to some but if you are used to sleeping with king sized pillows it’s a big deal to have them available to you and they were! A very welcome touch.
Everything was, as advertised, clean, spacious, quiet and lovely. No hesitation whatsoever to recommend this beautiful place.

Why they chose this property
Every time we drove through Osoyoos a few times a year, we were struck by the view from Anarchist Mountain. We were visiting friends one day and had been thinking about moving in a few years when our granddaughter was older.
We were sitting on the beach with some local friends and we were thumbing through a real estate magazine (one of my pastimes) and saw this place was up for sale. It was a former B & B so I knew it must have room and zoning should we do small retreats/workshops. It was a long weekend but, amazingly, with 15 hours notice, both the realtor and owner were available before our trek back to Vancouver.
We spent 1.5 hours looking at this place and fell in love instantly with the view, the size of the lots, and the potential.
The owner had put a lot of love into the place with her husband (who was a builder). We are still friends and have her over and she shares her knowledge of the area and wildlife freely. She is an artist and it shows...4 built in display units/curio cabinets, windows that go almost to the floor, the sunroom, and her inner courtyard.
From the beginning, as new owners we felt we really wanted to share this place and make it available to people who love views and wildlife.
Also, we missed the starts living in the stars. This is prime real estate for star gazing!
What makes this property unique
There are several bird feeders close to the windows and truly amazing birds visit daily. The the you think the viewpoints along the highway are great, wait til you are in the comfort of this home and seeing it morning, noon and night!
We never take it for granted and truly appreciate it every day.
The house was build 'over-code' because the builder owner really wanted a solid foundation. The two of them came here for years to their trailer and studied the katabatic and anabatic winds and situated the house so that it took advantage of the breezes here.
