General
Comfortable and charming 3 star ski in/ski out apartment for 4 to 6 people. Located at the Falaise area in Avoriaz, and facing south, Chamois enjoys spectacular views from its 8th floor balcony and panoramic windows. Relax in comfortable beds and sofas with carpets, thick rugs, cosy throws and cushions. With the added benefit of a private ski locker and boot dryers, you can say goodbye to carrying equipment and cold, wet fingers and toes. A selection of shops, supermarket, restaurants, ski hire & bakery are all within 50 metres.
The layout
This 2 bedroom 2 bathroom duplex 8th floor apartment is arranged over 2 floors with lift access. On the main floor – entrance with boot dryers, bathroom, separate toilet, kitchen, dining area, living room, laundry facility, access to balcony. Stairs lead to the upper floor with a double bedroom, bunk bedroom, shower room and toilet.
Kitchen
Fitted out to a high standard, the modern kitchen is equipped with fully integrated BOSCH appliances, including a multifunction oven, 4-burner ceramic hob, microwave, large fridge with freezer, dishwasher, electric kettle, toaster, coffee maker, electric mixer and raclette machine. There is enough crockery, cutlery and glasses for 6 people, as well as a wide range of cooking aids and utensils. Tea, coffee, salt, pepper, herbs, foil, dishwasher tablets, cleaning materials and toilet paper are provided.
Living / dining area
The dining and living area happily accommodate 6 people seated at the table and on the comfortable sofas. The décor is warm and cosy Alpine style, with rugs, plaids and cushions.
Wifi and TV
Free fibre-optic Wi-Fi. Flat-screen TV with cable channels, DVD player and free video library with a good selection of films of all genres, available in most European languages.
Bedrooms
2 bedrooms, 1 double and 1 bunk, all with proper beds with thick, comfortable sprung mattresses, Hungarian goose down duvets and pillows and super fine Egyptian cotton bedding. 2 further single sofa beds in the living room convert quickly and can also be combined into a double bed. The curtains are all super thick with blackout lining, so you are not disturbed by the morning sun.
Bathrooms
With 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets, one on each floor, there will be no rush in the morning. Complimentary toiletries and towels are provided in all the bathrooms.

Fully equipped with a SAMSUNG washing machine and condensing dryer

VRBO doesn't provide space for a thorough review, so here's a list of the biggies:1) The smell - it smelled like a locker room when we opened the door. We figured out it was the carpet in the entry way. There is no door mat, so moisture settles in the carpet and stinks of mildew. The hallway between the elevators and the front door is open to the elements, so there was often snow in the hall getting tracked in.2) Rotted railing on balcony - This was shocking. Eight stories up and the right side rail on the balcony is rotted through.3) No bedding for sofas counted toward "sleeps 6." No sheets or pillows could be found for these.4) Stingy on toilet paper and bin bags - only one roll and one bag, so plan ahead. Also, exactly 6 towels and no washcloths or bathmats.5) Everything else: a useless coffee maker with incompatible plug, crummy wifi, no spatula (but we bought one and left it!), nowhere to put luggage so pack super light or crawl over it, clothes dryer is ineffective and washer destroyed some clothes, tried to sell us transport and lift passes but they weren't bargains, especially if you don't pay cash, and it was very hard to find when arriving at night - you enter by going on the deck of another building and walking around that building to the entrance to the building this unit is in.A few positive points: towel warmers, basement ski locker, ski out (but only to a beginner slope with a crowded lift).

We are sorry you did not enjoy your stay. You are the first person ever to have cause for so many complaints - it is remarkable that with so much wrong, you made absolutely no attempt to contact us during your stay and did not reply to our messages asking you if all was well?
We would like to respond to the issues you have noted. Firstly, we cannot detect any smell in the apartment. The carpet is only 4 months old and is professionally steam cleaned after every 15 guests and three is no evidence of any mildew, as you suggest.
Being in a high altitude Alpine environment, outdoor materials are subject to heavy weather, but to the best of our knowledge the balustrade on the balcony is not unsafe. However we take all safety issues very seriously and we have instructed the technical team to review this and report back.
The clean fresh duvets and pillows were left for you freshly made inside the sofa bed. The 2 sofa beds were left pre made with clean mattress covers and sheets and all you had to do was remove the day covers. This is detailed in the comprehensive e-guide we sent you.
In our support of climate and eco sensitivity, we encourage recycling and we provided you with recycling bags, a full roll of pedal bin liners and 1 large heavy duty refuse sack. Most guests find this sufficient. If you needed more large refuse sacks or additional toilet paper we would happily have brought this to you, but you did not ask for these during your stay.
The coffee maker is a brand new Nespresso machine - only purchased the day before you arrived as it is a requirement for the star rating and you were the first guests to have it - the plug is a standard French plug - if you needed assistance to plug it in, our team would have happily obliged, but most people can cope with plugging in an appliance themselves.
The wifi is fibre optic and the speed is in excess of 200mbps so we do not understand what you mean by crummy?
The washer dryer is a 2 year old high end Samsung model and nobody has ever had any problem with it - we have since tested it and found no issues. There are full instructions in the e-guide we sent you together with a how to use video.
We sent you links to book transport as you were flying in from the US, but we leave it up to you to decide if you want to do this or not.
Our prices for lift passes are all noted on our website and order from and are exactly the same as the online price form the lift company, who set these prices - we deliver these to the apartment free of charge ahead of your arrival as a convenience for you, so that you do not meed to queue in resort. We were really pleased that we managed to facilitate your order for these, despite you making it at the 11th hour, as the queues to buy these in resort during peak weeks can be very long. The prices were exactly as advertised, but as we pointed out, the price was in Euros and you insisted on paying by credit card in US dollars, which attracted a fee from the credit card company, over which we have no control.
We sent you detailed arrival instructions together with a step by step google map and photos. We also had an in resort team available to assist with your arrival, but you didn't contact them.
You have a choice which ski slope to depart the building from. There is no need to head onto a beginner slope - this is also noted in the e-guide and our team would have happily explained this in person had you contacted us.
Alpine ski resorts are very busy in New Year week - it is normal to expect some crowds at the lifts, even though in Avoriaz there are 250 to choose from.
The apartment was inspected by the French tourist board for its 5 yearly inspection the week prior to your arrival - they meticulously check the standard and measure and count the items provided and did not report any of the issues you refer to.
We are sorry you found so much to complain about, and while we take all complaints seriously, we cannot uphold the majority of your comments and it simply does not make sense, if it was as awful as you claim, that you chose not to mention anything or respond to our communication during your stay.

A little bit of luxury in Avoriaz

Lovely cosy and warm apartment
Very easy to book online. Greeted by Clive and lift passes delivered by Philip later that evening and reassuring to know that they are on hand if needed. Apartment is lovely, cosy, warm and well equipped. Easy to keep clean and tidy, so we skipped the midweek clean. Fantastic view and close to supermarket and restaurants. Would definitely consider staying here again.

Lovely Apartment, Perfect Location
We booked Apartment Chamois for over the New Year period for 2 adults and 2 children. We were not disappointed. The clean, warm, cosy apartment had everything you would need, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable living area with WIFI, TV, DVD player and comfortable beds! The location was central to everything, ski in, ski out which is great when you have children. Nikki, Phillip and their team were excellent. We couldn't ask any more of them, dealing with our very late arrival, having boots, skis and lift passes organised, restaurants recommended, New Year's Eve dinner booked at our request and even a large library of DVDs for the children to use free of charge. Would totally recommend Avoriaz Chalets :-)

Why they chose this property
Avoriaz is a fabulous ski resort - it's high for reliable snow and due to its proximity to the Mont Blanc, it actually has the most snow sure record of any French resort. Being just over 1 ¼ hours from Geneva, it's incredibly accessible whether by plane, train or road. All our pretties offer skiing to and from the front door and the entire resort is car free, so its a snow paradise and very safer or kids. There are heaps of additional activities on offer beside unlimited ski-ing and snowboarding such as the Aquariaz aqua park, sledging both day and night time, ice skating, horse sleigh rides, ski joering, parenting... The properties all face south for spectacular mountain views and lots of sun s in a fantastic location with wonderful views. Being a compact resort, all the shops and supermarkets are generally within 100 - 200 meters.
