Perfect Highlands Escape

We loved this little house in Ballater! Everything in it feels new, clean and updated, but the house itself has wonderful character and fits right into this village from the past. It could not be better located. We could walk to coffee shops, the visitor's center, the Coop (grocery store), bike rental, restaurants and shops. Also, we went straight from the house to two great hikes: Seven Bridges & Knock Castle, and Craigdendarroch. Beautiful! The house is also quite close to Muir of Dinner National Nature Reserve where there are more trails, and Balmoral which is a very enjoyable day. We cooked in the house kitchen everyday, and did laundry with no issues. (There is a washer, but no dryer, so make sure you have time to hang dry your laundry.) The TV is a smart TV so we were able to log in to our Amazon Prime Account and Netflix. The beds are very comfortable, and it was nice to have two full bathrooms. For any Americans wary of driving on the wrong side of the road, this plan worked great for us: We flew into Edinburgh, stayed there for a night, took the train from Waverley to Dyce Station near Aberdeen, and rented a car at the Aberdeen airport. That way, it was only an hour's drive to Ballater, and there were not a lot of cars on the road. The driving was not hard. There are plenty of nearby historic sites, hikes and farms, but you do need a car to see it all. We highly recommend this VRBO!
