About this property

St. Helen's House with Minster views

St Helen’s house offers 4 large double rooms (one of which can be set up as a twin room on request), a kitchen diner and a traditional sitting room. Two ensuite bathrooms, a shower room and an additional toilet.

You will find Stonegate house just off the St Helens square, where you will find the famous Betty’s tea room and Stonegate, a historical shopping street.
From a modest entrance, you will be wonderfully surprised by the house within.

While the original, multi-paned, Georgian windows at the front of the house, allows light into the rooms the windows at the back of the house frame the views of York Minster and the communal courtyard below.

St Helen’s House has been bejewelled with antique furniture, complimenting the history of the house.
The staircase up, leads you up to the sitting room, with views of the street below. With comfortable sofas and a 50"TV with terrestrial channels, To relax at the end of a busy day of sightseeing.
This beautiful room has original panelling and fireplace, with electric coal fire to keep you cosy.

The kitchen is superbly well equipped with everything you need to create a fabulous meal or dish up a takeaway and the large dining room with a beautiful oak table can seat up to 8 guests.

On the next floor you will find bedroom One with a large king-sized sleigh bed, antique press wardrobe and a beautiful dressing table as well as views of the Minster from the French doors. This bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom with a shower over the bath and complimentary toiletries and fluffy, white, hotel-style towels.

Bedroom Two is also light and bright with views of the street below, an ensuite bathroom with a shower.

The next landing is flooded with light from the skylight above. Where you will find the next family bathroom, third and fourth bedroom.

There is no parking due to the house being in the city centre but we will recommend local car parks.

Fantastic property in great location but...
The property was fabulous and a perfect base for us to explore York. Unfortunately, our friends had their holiday spoilt as they were in the front bedroom opposite what we now know is a 24hr McDonalds. They were kept awake most of the night by drunken shouting and fighting. I supposed when you notice on your first night that the McDonalds has two security guards outside, you should guess there may be problems. At this point though we thought it would shut at 12 or 1pm. Unfortunately, this was not the case. We were also saddened to have to step over a homeless person sleeping in the doorway on the first morning we woke up there. Not the property owners fault or the homeless person but not what we were expecting. The property is great and has everything you could need, the sound of the bells chiming coming from The Minster is charming and the location is perfect but if you want a good night's sleep I would suggest this may not be for you - unless they change the opening times of McDonalds. The owners provide earplugs but as a parent you wouldn't want to go to sleep with earplugs in knowing your children may wake up in the night and shout for you.

Enjoyable stay in wonderfully quirky house
The location is amazing - right in the very center of York, just a block from the Minster. There are pedestrian streets all around, great pubs and shops. The house is arranged over four floors, which is fun and quirky, but might be an issue for people who aren't good with stairs. The bedrooms are all very good size with comfortable beds. The large front bedroom did have some loud street noise late at night (a Monday & Tuesday night), but the rest were perfectly quiet. The owner provides earplugs if you need them. Plenty of bathrooms - in fact we didn't even find the fourth (a powder room) on the first floor landing till the last day! There was an issue with the shower door not closing in one of the bathrooms which meant it couldn't be used, but the bathrooms were all nicely updated in general. The home is very charming, furnished with antiques, and has a comfortable, slightly worn feeling, which is very fitting to the location. The keypad entry was great, allowing each of us to come and go independently. Communication was great and self-check in was easy - I would recommend staying here, especially for families or groups of friends.

An amazing time with family in York
Excellent accommodation, well equipped, comfortable and warm. The bedrooms and bathrooms were perfect for a larger group. In an excellent location with parking close by. York has something for everyone but a bonus was hearing the Minster bells each day. Great places to shop, eat and drink. We are hoping to return .
