About this property

The Able Stables - Sam's Cottage, East Rudham, Norfolk

Relax in this handsome larch cottage, set within The Able Stables complex on the owner's farm in the delightful village of East Rudham. Sam's Cottage is curated on one level and has been carefully created to incorporate the assisted living requirements of the independent wheelchair user if needed.

This is a fabulous property which presents a unique holiday for both disabled and non-disabled guests. Sam's Cottage offers an ideal bolthole free from the stresses of everyday life for anyone wishing to enjoy a secluded holiday in the Norfolk countryside. It is situated within its own private walled courtyard and the location makes it a perfect choice for all manner of holidaymakers: birdwatchers, walkers, cyclists, and beach lovers... anyone looking for a relaxing Norfolk 'hideaway' to escape to for a short or longer break throughout the seasons. Within the larch cottage there is a full wet room, kitchen, and dining area with wall mounted televisions in both the bedroom and kitchen. The cosy bedroom is set up as a super-king size bed, however this can be made up as two singles on request.

The Able Stables can arrange for either right or left transfer for the bed when set up as a double and raise the bed to accommodate a hoist which can be rented from Norwich.. Please request at time of booking.

A truly amazing outside/inside sitting room with ample comfortable seating and dining area, unique furniture, wood burning stove and overhead heating adds to the charm and individuality of this destination.

Sam's Cottage is run as a social enterprise. Together with the owner's other property, Hewie's Cottage, the funds raised from paying guests go towards offering subsidised breaks to clients that would normally not be able to pay to get away. With these subsidised breaks there is an emphasis on disability of all kinds, but the property would suit anyone that wanted a great place to get away in a unique, reassuring, and safe space.

When booking, if you do have specific accessibility requests, please speak to the team who will be able to help you further.

If you are a larger group why not consider taking Hewie's Cottage too and make the most of all that both properties offer.

A lovely stay

We had a great time at the stables, helped by amazing weather. The living accommodation is bijou but perfectly formed with pretty much everything you need. There is an amazing all year outdoor living space which we loved. There are several amazing beaches less than 25 mins drive and a great local pub 10 mins walk.

Excellent September stay in Able Stables

There wasn't much choice when we came to try to find a place to stay in Norfolk this September, but were very happy when we found Able Stables. A little bit different to the standard cottage, and all the better for that. Yes the pod is small, but it's completely adquate, with very comfortable bed, and a sufficient kitchen. Not a lot of storage space for any food you bring in, but we managed, and there is plenty of space in the utility room in the stables including a second fridge -- the freezer is also located there. We really enjoyed using the "outdoor" sitting space in the stables area -- we had all our meals there when we ate in. The owner is really friendly and very helpful and we love the concept of trying to provide a charity based facility of supporting holidays for the less abled. The "patio garden" in the stables courtyard is lovely with tubs with flowers, also herbs for guests' use and also when we were there, delicious tomatoes we could pick and eat. The stables area faces west so when the sun is out, it's lovely sitting out with the sun shining in. If it is raining there's a tansparent plastic curtain which can be drawn across. There are portable gas fires and overhead electric heaters available if you feel a bit chilly. There's also a wood/coal burner in that area. We ate out one night in the Crown, 5 minutes walk and that was delicious; we also loved the brownies and home made pork pies from the small shop just across from the crown. Lots to do in the area -- well located for many of Norfolk's attractions. We will be back!

Local Staycation

We very much enjoyed our stay. The bed was very comfortable which made it feel like home. The wet room was brilliant. Although the kitchen was quite small it was adequate and had everything needed to cook an evening meal. Outside the garden was great for our dog; spacious and secure. The inside outside lounge was quite quirky and we used it to relax and read a book. We didn't need the adaptions/facilities for wheelchair users but we could see it would have been ideal. For eating out The Crown in East Rudham was great, dog friendly and a short walk. Plenty of gorgeous beaches to visit too. The owner was very helpful.

We had a lovely relaxing stay at Able Stable.

Our stay at Able Stable was very pleasant the area is surrounded by beautiful countryside. The accommodation has a very clean with a spacious outside area, containing all the facilities anyone would require. The local pub servers very good food and is a short walk from the accommodation. There is the added bonus of a tea room next door to the pub for anyone with a sweet tooth!

Able Stables

We had a lovely week. The ‘pod’ part of the accommodation was very small, and smaller than implied by the photos, however, the bed was comfortable and the bed linen and towels hotel standard. The kitchen was kitted out with essentials to cook. The outdoor living space was nicely done and comfortable - but we were lucky with the weather. We liked that it was a social enterprise situation. The location was great and there were really good walks right from the house. The village had a good pub.

This was a comfortable and well appointed retreat. Excellent proximity to North Norfolk towns and beaches. Safe enclosed walled courtyard with room for children to play safely. Comfortable semi open stable area with woodburner, barbecue and social area, All under cover. Outside tables face west for evening sunsets.
