Beautiful hill side house with stunning valley view in the centre of Cotswolds
The Woodlands offers a luxury self-catering country stay in Chalford, the Golden Valley in the Cotswolds, with over 1 acre of private woodlands and gardens. Just two hours drive from central London, with miles upon miles of natural beauty right outside the front door, this 18th-century cottage extended house is perfectly placed for you to enjoy all that Cotswolds has to offer. Ancient history flows through over a thousand years’ history of the valley’s legacy as one of the country’s earliest cloth-making areas that have made it unique. Still, recent restorations undertaken by the owners have brought it right up to the modern-day, making this self-catering home a character-filled family retreat that is utterly wholesome in every way.
Explore the Cotswolds' natural beauty during the day and in the evening, sit out either in the front courtyard with a cool glass of local wine or enjoy some marshmallows by the pit fire on our bird view high decking, as the last of the day’s sunsets beyond the woods.
Inside: Stone-built fireplace, oak floorboards, and the iconic 9m long openable glass wall overlooking the valley, The Woodlands is as quintessential as bucolic. A home that celebrates the simple but beautiful things in life creates beautiful memories and happiness.
Outside Rising with the sound of birdsong, pad downstairs and out into the garden and down to the woodlands for a quiet morning wander around, before back to The Woodlands’ kitchen with freshly provided local produces for a healthy breakfast. After filling up on coffee and toast, pack backpacks and head across the hill, through Chalford Village and up onto national woodlands or down to the canal to enjoy endless Cotswolds views over a picnic of the wonderful sandwich from the famous Lavender Bakery; on return, gather around the fire pit for some local bubbles and conversation as the light fades from the sky.
Practicalities There is ample parking for up to four to six cars in the private car park. The kitchen includes a Rangemaster Gas cooker, electric oven, hob, American style fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, and a washing-dryer. Due to the nature of the traditional country house style, there are a number of low doors throughout. There is an unfenced steep slope in the garden and a low fence on the patio; please supervise children at all times.
The Woodlands Welcome includes Luxury welcome hamper of local produce, including Organic loaf, Organic milk, free-range eggs, etc. We have two Smart TV, recipe books, internet... There are places you visit, and then there are places you truly experience. This house in the Cotswolds was far more than just a stay, it felt like stepping into another time.Nestled in the middle of nature, surrounded by endless greenery and silence, it had the warmest, coziest atmosphere imaginable. Every single detail was thoughtfully curated: soft lighting, beautiful natural materials, timeless décor, and that charming rustic elegance that makes the Cotswolds feel almost unreal. What made it truly special was the feeling of completely disconnecting from the chaos of everyday life. Time seemed to slow down here. Misty mornings overlooking the fields, evenings by the fireplace, the sound of birds in the distance, and the simple joy of sharing meaningful moments with the people you love.A rare, authentic, almost magical experience. One of those places you never really leave behind, even after you’ve gone home.
We travelled with our dog, and two families. Had a great trip and the property is perfect for a winter at home stay. The snug is great and allowed the teenagers to have their own space. Dog friendly and the kitchen worked well for a large group and cooking. Outdoor space needed some attention but it was winter, so we weren't there - and I'm sure it's an amazing space in the summer time.
The property's kitchen was extremely well equipped and there were even vases available for flowers so it was really home from home, it had everything . Beds super comfortable and white company toiletries a really nice touch. Great house and would return.
Had a wonderful stay - communication with Poppy and the property were top notch, and made for a relaxing, long weekend stay. The property is even better than the photos, private, and the highlight is the living room with large windows letting in sun and the surrounding English countryside.
We chose this property for its size and location for a 3 day Christmas break and it did not disappoint. Even though the weather was lousy you could see out to the valley due to the high position of the house and I’m sure this outlook is even more stunning in the Summer months.
A few minor issues other wise all goodDifficult access road , hill very slipperyLeak in lounge above window.Kitchen drawer handle falls off Leak under sink in kitchen
We chose the property because of the views which were as good as the pictures. The decor is tasteful and the sun lounge is lovley. We went as a family aged 20 to 80 and all enjoyed the stay. Very relaxing, felt in a proective bubble and did not want to leave.

Thank you for your kindness words, that’s is exactly what we felt when we are there.
a beautiful property! plenty of room to spread out, yet cosy at the same time. The views are to die for, and we got to see badgers and deer!My only advice us for people who like complete darkness whilst sleeping: the blinds are not blockout blinds, so it is worth bringing an eye mask.
My family of 4 adults enjoyed our stay here. Poppy was really helpful and good at communicating and kindly provided hypoallergenic bedding for the two of us that have feather allergies.
We enjoyed the outside seating and inside facilities and it had everything we needed for a pleasurable stay.
We stayed for a long weekend to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. The property was perfect for the occasion with enough space for the family to get together or spread out as appropriate. The facilities were excellent, although as the weather was kind we mostly used the terrace and barbecue area.
Stayed at the Woodlands for a long weekend for my wife's and my 60th birthdays. Absolutely fantastic stay from beginning to end. Loved the place so much we did not want to leave. The host, Poppy, was very easy to communicate with and was very flexible regarding check in & out. Will be back to this little (big) gem.
Very smooth booking process. Welcome pack was excellent. Accommodation was lovely. Very clean and impressive furniture and decor. Incredible views and a wide range of places to sit and socialise. Facilities were excellent. This is a beautiful house for any kind of getaway.

Fab house with everything we could possibly need. Amazing views and gardens, absolutely brilliant time had for our joint 60th get together. Great communication with Poppy & the app was very helpful. Would highly recommend and would love to visit again one day, thank you
Great position with lovely views. It was perfect for our family gathering with plenty of space.
Really good communication with the owner.
The approach is incredibly steep it was much better arriving from the top of the hill downwards.
Great outside space would be lovely in the summer.
