About this property
Smugglers Cottage in Penryn, Nr Falmouth
Summary:
Smugglers Cottage is a Grade II listed property in historical Penryn. You're just a stones throw from Penryn harbour, and a short drive or train away to vibrant Falmouth. Inside, the interiors have been modernised but still retain an array of charming traditional features. The living room has a wooden sash window, a wood-burner for cooler nights and exposed beams, as well as a number of mod cons to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
The Space:
Board games and books are provided for you to use, and the Smart TV with apps means you certainly won't struggle to find something to watch. Next door, lovely stone walls lead into the kitchen where there are ample amenities to cook meals. Find a hob, oven, fridge, microwave and Nespresso coffee machine, as well as useful cooking basics. A back door leads from the kitchen out into the garden, which is a lovely spot on a warm summers day. Sit out on the tables and chairs with your morning coffee in hand.
Upstairs, there are 2 bedrooms that sleep 4 in total. The master bedroom features a comfortable double bed as well as storage space so you can unpack and make yourself at home. Next door is a bunk room, with two single beds ideal for children or teenagers. (Please be aware the bunk beds are low, and there is limited space on the lower bunk). These share a family bathroom located on the ground floor, with a shower. Additionally, there is a double sofa bed downstairs should guests not want to share rooms. The property is in close proximity to Penryn's local amenities and the beautiful South Coast and makes the perfect cottage for a relaxing getaway! Please be mindful the cottage is situated on a main road. Well behaved dogs welcome with an additional fee of £20/dog (max 2). It is on the condition they are not allowed on the soft furnishings or in the bedrooms.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire property and garden.
The Neighborhood:
Steeped in history, the charming town of Penryn is quieter than its neighbour, Falmouth. You'll find mazes of quaint cobbled streets to explore, beautiful scenery to take in and a thriving artisan community. Penryn harbour is just a 10 minute walk away, and you will find a number of pubs and cafes in the immediate surrounding area. Try Origin Coffee for brunch, Muddy Beach for sea views and Bango Kitchen for delicious dinners. Bailey's Country Store is an excellent farm shop with lots of local goodies on offer - this is just a 9 minute walk from the cottage or 2 minutes by car.
You're in the perfect spot to explore all that South Cornwall has to offer. Just under three miles away are the sandy beaches of Falmouth, as well as a high-street full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. All easily accessible via the train which is only one stop to Falmouth Town and one more to the end of the line at Falmouth Docks. The Helford River offers lots of opportunities for walking and cream tea eating! Whilst a little further afield is Porthleven, known for its fantastic pubs and the annual food festival, as well as Praa Sands for coastal paths and swimming or surfing opportunities.
Enys Gardens and Tea Rooms is a firm favourite of locals and is said to be the oldest gardens in Cornwall. Within the secret 30-acre gardens you’ll find an open meadow known as Parc Lye where the bluebells are breath-taking. From Penryn, you can catch the Falmouth Water Taxi and take a scenic trip on the river to picturesque villages such as St Mawes. Stop at a riverside pub such as the 13th-century Pandora Inn or visit the National Trust’s Trelissick House and Gardens.
Getting Around:
There is free on-street parking in the local area, and local car parks are detailed in the welcome pack.
Other Things to Note:
Please be mindful that the property is on a main road.
Summer 2025: Please note that we are currently experiencing intermittent internet issues. Our provider has confirmed a stable 15mb connection to the property and is working to resolve the transmission issues causing the disruption.
