About this property

Beautiful Character House in Muir of Ord

Located just north of Inverness at the start of the NC500. This character house is very well located in the countryside, for a highland getaway. Guests can bring upto two well-behaved dogs and have a large garden to use, with an enclosure. Feel free to look at our website. welcometohighfieldhouse.com

This quirky property has lots of character. There is a large open plan dining area, a lounge room, games room, a well-proportioned and well equipped kitchen, three double bedrooms, one with its own shower room, and a cosy bedroom with a bunk bed that doubles as a work space. The family bathroom boasts a walk-in shower, WC and luxurious stand-alone bath. A second shower room and WC is located downstairs. There is also a travel cot available on request.

Guests can entertain themselves in either the games room upstairs, tv lounge downstairs or seating area in the dining room. The games room offers a large TV, seating area with sofa bed and/or floor mattress, table football and a selection of board games. The spacious lounge downstairs has comfortable seating, television and also its own kitchenette. There are stunning views across the adjacent farmland from the lounge with access to the enclosure and back garden area. In addition, there is a small seating area in the dining area with wall mounted television.

Within the large south-facing garden there is a picnic area with deckchairs and a secure enclosure for children and dogs, since the whole site doesn't have fully dog proof fencing. There are further wooded garden areas to the side and back of the property. Off-road parking accommodates up to 5 cars.

Muir of Ord is approximately half a mile away. It has a train station, small supermarket, bakery, two pubs, a petrol station, library and several cafes. There is a large Tesco in Dingwall and a medium sized Co-Op in Beauly (both about 10 minutes drive away). A bus route between Dingwall and Inverness passes the house. From Muir of Ord station guests can travel to The Highland capital of Inverness, the stunning west coast of Scotland or north-east to places like Tain, Dornoch and Golspie.

There is also the Chapleton Horse Riding Centre nearby. It would be worth booking in advance if this interests you.

You'll notice that there are two listings for this property. During the summer months we offer the whole house for let.

Pets

Guests can bring upto two well-behaved dogs, however they must stay downstairs and not be left unattended at the property. When in the garden, please make sure they are on a lead or within the enclosure as there are farm animals in the adjacent fields. Please note, there isn't fencing around the entire site, so children and dogs should be kept in the enclosure when unattended.

Technology

The house has wifi accessible throughout the whole house. Speeds usually range between 10-14 mb. There is a 32 inch Toshiba smart tv downstairs and a Panasonic Viera 42 inch tv with Amazon Fire stick upstairs. There is no tv aerial but live tv and catch-up can be accessed through various apps on both televisions. There is a Netflix account on both and freeview apps are set up on each device.

An Amazon Alexa device is in the kitchen, which guests can login into using their account details.

Covid 19

We've signed up to the enhanced clean protocol on Airbnb. Hand sanitiser is provided throughout the house.

Sustainability

Here at Highfield House we are very keen to embrace an eco-friendly philosophy.

The property is heated through an air sourced heat pump, which keeps it cosy throughout the Scottish winters. The hot water is also heated using the heat pump, using 100% renewable electricity.

We also have a heat composting bin in the garden for all food waste. This produces compost much quicker than a standard compost bin. You can put any food waste in here and a food caddy is provided in the kitchen.

We're very conscious about re-cycling here. Items to be re-cycled include plastics, cans, tins, paper and cardboard, but not glass. This I take separately to the bottle bank after each stay.

We use environmentally friendly products within the house for some of the cleaning and washing activities. Washing up liquid, laundry detergent, fabric softener/conditioner, dishwasher tablets, hand soap and shower gel are provided for guests.

Buying food and drink products locally is also something that we encourage (plus it’s very tasty!), please speak to your host for recommendations.

Traumhaftes Haus

Beautiful house to see the Highlands
Our group had a great stay here to tour around the highlands and were able to walk to a nearby distillery. Fun character of the home for our stay in Scotland and well equipped for our group's needs.

Wonderful in Every Way
The home is a perfect spot for a group such as our 10 family members. Neil greeted us and was helpful showing the property and got us a baby gate to help keep the 2 yr old safe. He does everything to make the stay special and has all the amenities one could want during a stay away from home. The house is unique, spacious, great appliances, and a great setting with horses to view from relaxing chairs in the yard. It is close to Inverness, the North Sea, Lock Ness, etc. We appreciate the wonderful hospitality and are planning a return trip in the near future!

Recently moved to The Highlands from Gloucestershire so embark on this project. Have always wanted to move up here as am a golf nut. So if you want to plan a golf trip, I can pass on lots of information relating to courses etc.

Why they chose this property

The character of the building sold it! Sitting on half an acre of woodland, Highfield House is very peaceful.

What makes this property unique

Beautiful & unique character property in a rural location, yet not too far from the bright lights of Inverness.
