As you arrive at the end of Main Street, the ancient properties of the Bretforton Estate lie ahead, with Corner Cottage, as the name suggests, situated exactly on the corner, opposite Bretforton House Farm. This ancient farmstead, along with Corner Cottage, has been owned by the same family for hundreds of years. The quaint design, exposed timbers and ancient stone walls give off the feel of a fairy-tale house, complete with an apple tree that bears lots of fruit for guests to enjoy.
This perfectly formed, timber-framed holiday cottage has been meticulously renovated to a very high standard and decorated throughout using subtle hues of white and greys with accents of colour, and beautiful lined curtains, to create a restful retreat. On the ground floor is a cosy living room and dining area, with a spectacular inglenook and original bread oven, and a contemporary kitchen and shower room. On the first floor are two bedrooms, one super spacious, delightfully quirky master room, with a king-size bed, and one compact bunk bedroom that's ideal for two young children or one adult.
The cottage has a lawn with an apple tree, the fruit of which guests are encouraged to collect and enjoy, and a patio and gravel area to the front with a picnic bench set. A path curls around the back of the cottage where there is a low fence dividing Corner Cottage's Garden from the neighbour's property. Corner Cottage has two, off-street parking spaces beside the garden that are accessed via a shared driveway.
Ground Floor
Step through the front door into the kitchen. On the back of the door is a handy row of coat hooks.
Kitchen: This contemporary, dual aspect kitchen has been very cleverly designed to include all the equipment and appliances needed for a self-catering stay. In addition, there is a bar table with two high stools and a recessed worktop with USB charger sockets where guests can sit and use a laptop while on a workation or planning a day's outing.
Living Room/Dining Area: This delightful, cosy room will immediately remind you of the cottage's 400-year history, with its exposed timbers and huge inglenook complete with original bread oven. The living room is furnished with two, comfy sofas - one of which is tucked into the inglenook - a 43" Smart TV, an occasional table and reading lights. It has and has lovely wooden flooring, with a richly coloured rug, and beautiful lined curtains to draw together on a chilly winter's evening.
To one side of the inglenook is a dining table and chairs to comfortably seat up to four guests.
Family Shower Room: Just off the living room is a spacious and contemporary family shower room with a walk-in corner shower, with an overhead and hand-held shower head, a washbasin with an LED/Bluetooth speaker mirror, a toilet, and a heated towel rail. (Please note, the shower room's ceiling and shower head are quite low and may not be suitable for taller guests.)
Utility Cupboard: This handy cupboard is located under the stairs, opposite the shower room, and houses the washer-dryer, the ironing equipment, a torch, the router, bin bags and other handy housekeeping items.
First Floor
Duck your head as you pass from the living room up the fairly narrow and tight, carpeted staircase (with a banister and handrail) to the two bedrooms.
Bedroom One: The master bedroom will be a lovely surprise: it's big, bright and colourful - yet includes a nod to its past, with its exposed timbers and an extra-wide window ‘ledge', which covers the whole of the inglenook below. The bedroom is furnished with a contemporary, king-size bed with a colourful footstool, bedside tables and reading lights (all perfectly levelled over the quirkily uneven floor to ensure a super comfortable sleep). There's a chest of drawers and an in-built wardrobe to store and hang your clothes. A big and beautiful mirror hangs on the main wall, reigning impressively over the room.
Bedroom Two: Across the little landing is the compact but charming children's room. It is furnished with a bunk bed (two, full-size singles), a tall chest of drawers with a reading lamp on top, a large mirror, hooks for hanging clothes and an in-built wardrobe. (This room is suitable for two young children or - due to the limited space - one adult.)
Outside
Corner Cottage has a small lawn and a patio with a gravel path leading to a shared parking area. The patio is immediately outside the front/kitchen door, making it super convenient for carrying out evening drinks and alfresco meals. An apple tree sits outside the kitchen windows and bears an abundance of fruit, which guests are encouraged to collect and enjoy.

Lovely spot, walking distance from a great pub, comfortable, cosy. Well equipped kitchen. A bit more cutlery would have been good, otherwise splendid!

Fabulous stay at Corner Cottage
The cottage was absolutely perfect for our recent stay, it is very well equipped and cared for.
We would be happy to return next time we are visiting family and friends in the area.
An added bonus is the Fleece which is always a go to during our visits for lunch or dinner and the local community shop is also very well stocked with any essentials you may need.

Lovely little place, will return.
We’ve been to Corner Cottage twice and we’ll come back. It’s a lovely place, not huge but very well proportioned. Very comfortable for 4. Excellent local pub, the house is calm and everything works well.
Perfect break in the Cotswolds!

Very enjoyable
We had a lovely relaxing stay. The cottage was well furnished and equipped. The area is very quiet and within easy reach of the Cotswolds. Maybe consider enclosing the small front garden to protect dogs, as you permit pets.

Summer stay
A 10 from the beginning to the end. The cottage is perfect for a chill week. It's very cozy and you feel at home from the moment you set foot in it. It's very comfortable and the location is perfect (Bretforton is a very nice village/community that we liked very much). We would love to come back soon!

Fantastic stay in a gorgeous little village with a wonderful pub just minutes down the road.
The cottage was just perfect for our four days away in the Cotswolds. The cottage had everything we needed and was decorated sympathetically with very good quality finishes (particularly the bathroom). The information booklet was also extremely helpful and the local area was very easy to get to. We went to a lovely pottery making class with Honeybourne Pottery and visited Broadway one of the days which was also lovely. Would highly recommend a stay. The village also had a gorgeous pub just minutes down the road with very friendly staff and amazing food!

Quirky Cottage
What can you expect from such an old building ? Uneven floors, low beams, tight stairs but overall a comfortable cottage in a delightful village.
The fact there is parking is a real bonus. In the village and of course the Fleece Inn around the corner.
Outside space is ok but limited in use. The price paid is value and the stay overall was comfortable.
We did try to contact the agent to ask a question but they never responded which is poor customer service.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us on your recent stay at Corner Cottage. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent stay at Corner Cottage. We’re so pleased to hear that you found the cottage comfortable and enjoyed the charm of its beautiful village setting.
We appreciate your comments regarding the floors, beams, stairs and outdoor space. As Corner Cottage is a 17th-century timber-framed holiday home, it does come with some quirks that are part of its character. We do try to make this clear on our website, where we provide detailed photos, a 3D tour, and note in the Points of Note section that: The stairs are quite narrow and tight. The bedroom floors are very uneven. Ceiling height varies and is low in places. The bathroom ceiling and shower head are quite low and may not be suitable for taller guests.
We’re sorry to hear you had difficulty reaching us during your stay. We’ve looked into this and unfortunately didn’t receive any communication from you. We always provide our contact details, including both our office phone number and email address, along with details of a contact during your stay, who’s on hand throughout your stay and always happy to help.
Thank you again for your feedback,we do hope we can welcome you back to the Cotswolds in the future.

Great stay
(Not sure which way the likert scale works. 5 ito me is excellent all round.)Nicely furnished cottage in a lovely quiet location with parking. Comfortable sofas & bed. Nice cake as a welcome gift. Easy access with door code for self check in. Lots of nice gardens & houses to visit nearby. Great for hopping over county lines. Nice NT pub in the village & how nice to see a community run shop in the village that was well stocked run by lovely ladies.
Cozy cottage, in the centre of Bretforton, near the Fleece Inn.
A welcome pack with lots of info about the cottage. Clear instructions about what to do and not to do with your dog.
Everything feels very small, with typical cottage low ceilings and narrow windy staircase except for the main bed which is large and incredibly comfortable. Fabulous nights sleep.

Corner Cottage
Our first stay at Corner Cottage using Bolthole Retreats was as usual excellent, we have used Bolthole many times in the past.Corner cottage was everything we needed for a holiday in the beautiful Cotswolds. Bolthole are very easy to deal with and nothing is too much trouble. The only thing I would bring to the cottage owners attention is that in the kitchen the addition of a microwave and maybe a frying pan would make the whole breakfast experience perfect. Definitely be booking Corner Cottage again in the future.

Overall a good stay but ground floor had wood lice everywhere as we walked in.
Generally a nice stay but we did walk in to around 20-30 lice as we entered the cottage. Some dead, most alive. Some in the bathroom, on the curtains but most in the kitchen.
We contacted the owner who apologised.
Overall the cottage was nice, mostly clean (dusty in parts) and nice and quiet (if that’s what you want - we did).

A lovely little cottage
Wonderfully located in Bretforton, near the fantastic National Trust-owned Fleece Inn, it is well located for visiting Stow on the Wold and the other surrounding villages. Well provisioned, with comfortable sofas and beds, WiFi and TV with board games and books to hand, we would thoroughly recommend it. We would have liked it a little warmer, as the heating in the living room fell somewhat short of providing the comfort we were hoping for. An additional heater or radiator would have helped during the sudden cold snap that we experienced, and we hope the owners take this suggestion on board. Otherwise it would have been truly perfect.

Corner cottage
The cottage was very small and the ceiling height is low, which made it a very uncomfortable stay for my husband who is 6 foot 5 tall. The lounge furniture is really uncomfortable and there were some areas where the room needed attention/decoration. We were only provided with 3 towels, so had to share the hand towel. There were no bins in the bathroom or bedroom which was annoying, especially as there was nowhere to put sanitary products in the bathroom.
We slept terribly as there were birds nests in the bedroom roof and a grill which meant the noise came straight into the bedroom.
We felt the cottage was overpriced for what we got, which was disappointing.
Response from VrboOwner on 12 June 2025
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us on your recent stay at Corner Cottage. We're sorry to hear that some aspects of your experience didn’t meet your expectations. Regarding the size of the cottage and the ceiling heights, we do show photos on our website which show the beams and we state under the points of note "Corner Cottage is a 17th-century, timber-framed building. While it has huge character and charm, it is not suitable for everyone. The stairs are quite narrow and tight. The bedroom floors are very uneven. Ceiling height varies and is low in places. The bathroom ceiling and shower head are quite low and may not be suitable for taller guests". There is also a 3D tour and floor plan available to help guests get a good feel for the space before booking.
We’ve passed your feedback on to the owner, who really appreciates you bringing these points to their attention. They are looking into the points you've raised about the bins in the bedrooms and bathroom, as well as the lounge furniture. They also mentioned that they would have been happy to provide extra towels and address the bird’s nests if you had reached out during your stay, and they’re sorry to hear you didn’t sleep well. The housekeeper has been informed about the towels, and arrangements are being made to check the nests in the roof. Additionally, the owner wanted to let you know that the cottage is currently being redecorated.

Excellent stay at Corner Cottage
My husband, our 2 young girls and I loved our stay at Corner Cottage. Immaculately clean, very comfy beds, towels, sheets and in a lovely part of Bretforton. Great shower, quiet, full of character cottage.
There were a few things absent though and for the sake of other travelling families, I list them here as when staying a week with children, it could really do with these additions: no kitchen roll or cling film, 4 dishwasher tabs for a 7 night stay, only one tea towel, only one bathroom hand towel, no drying wire or line/pegs so everything must be tumbled, like it or not, no cooking oil, cheese grater, baking tray, shower slip mat, microwave or bin bags. For an otherwise well-equipped cottage, these were surprising oversights which hopefully will be sorted by the owners.
Thank you.

Thank you for your review and feedback. We have passed this on to the owner who will review your points raised. We're sorry you could not dry your clothes outside, unfortunately, this is due to the tiny garden. Again due to the size of the kitchen there is not a microwave as it would take up worktop space. The owner has asked the housekeeper to check if the grater has gone missing and also to check that there are enough supplies of other items.

Beautiful cottage, great location
We had an amazing weekend in Corner Cottage. Tucked in a very pretty village, we followed the easy instructions on parking and getting in. The cottage is really quirky and beautiful. Lovely furnishings, well equipped kitchen, great shower and comfy bed. We strolled to the Community Shop which has all the things you might need for your holiday although there was milk, tea, coffee etc and some delicious Battenberg left for us. I had booked a table at The Fleece literally two minutes away for Friday night. The pub itself is fascinating. Dog friendly. Lovely beer garden, efficient friendly staff and perfect for that summers evening. The food was excellent- reasonably priced and a good choice on the menu. We actually booked again for the Sunday (I do advise booking to avoid disappointment- they were busy all the time). Then we went to the Social Club (also dog friendly) and they were really friendly and welcoming so we stayed there for a while and would have returned if we had found time. We would absolutely recommend staying here and I am hoping that we will return again soon.
