About this property
Mission small group
Located on Mission Rd in Conesus NY, the old St. Michael's Mission is a retired seminary built by and for the Catholic church between 1925 and 1959. During it's peak the school graduated around 400 students annually, and so you can imagine this as a large facility that has more history than can be shared in a few short sentences.
On the property is a separate home which was originally built in 1940 as a convent and we have been operating this as a guest home since summer 2015, and with great success. (see our other listing ID: 728771) We have now opened the main mission building spaces in an effort to save these facilities from the ravages of time. This property, inside and out, is just too spectacular to not be enjoyed to the fullest. Your stay here will directly benefit these premises and what we are doing here is a bit unprecedented. Won't you join us for a stay and see what strikes you here in this most unique place?
If it appears the dates you desire are booked, do not despair, we can most likely accommodate you. Due to the limitations of the booking and home sharing platforms and listing individual rooms in a large facility we are able to create a new listing for you to place your reservation. Please send us your request for dates and we'd be most glad to accommodate everything from solo adventurers to touring groups.
We are sharing private rooms within the facility and until reservation systems are perfected on a room by room basis we are in a sense playing luck of the draw on a first come first serve basis and sharing the space based on group size and desires, not by rooms, and we can accommodate groups of large sizes. Aside from having your private quarters with full bath, shared spaces typically will include a large eat in kitchen with large attached dining spaces for groups, no cost self serve laundry equipment included, a beautiful chapel, and a small library, We also give tours of the facility where you can see what we are working on as well as learn first hand of the history of St. Michael's Mission.
As your host, I reside on the property and am on site daily and love to interact with my guests, give tours of the facilities, talk about the history, and show you where to hike. I also know when it's time to take a hike myself while our guests enjoy their private experiences. There are additional caretakers on site to help you with any needs or questions you may have.
Within walking distance is O' Neh Dah and Eagle Crest vineyards which was once part of the mission estate and their endeavors wherein sacramental wines were produced for churches coast to coast and beyond. Though the winery is a separate and private entity today they still make these wonderful wines.
There is plenty of parking on the property, some covered spaces as well. There is a taxi service or two in the area but little to nothing in the way of public transit like buses or trains etc. Travelers would ideally have their own means of transport, though we are available for airport pickups and may loan vehicles and/or drivers in certain situations. Whatever the case may be, we want our guests to feel at home here as this is a very unique place in the world, a sanctuary, like no other. What will your story and experience be here at the mission?

The host was very kind and helpful, the property was filled with interesting history. Very quiet and relaxing if getting away from distractions is what your looking for this place is for you.
Thank you small mission.
Awesome place to stay. experience! Property was cool.
WiFi was klutch! Thanks Korey for a great experience? Excellent kitchens and comfortable bed! If you want a good clean place to stay, I recommend the Mission!
This property suited the needs of our group of 5 adults. Check-in and communication with the host was satisfactory. The property certainly has unique characteristics. Lots of history.
The Mission is clean, comfortable, affordable and very interesting. The other guests were fun to engage with and Kory couldn’t be easier to work with. We needed a dog friendly place to stay and this place was just as welcoming to our dog as to us. We didn’t get a chance to explore all the Mission has to offer but we plan to be back to the area and we will certainly stay again.

Clean sheets, dusted ok, clothes left in dresser, bed comforter unclean, no hot water in girls unfinished shower, used boys room shower only, opening in door not right. Unique and interesting. Have known the mission for 40yrs first time inside.
This place was a whole experience. Korey the care taker was friendly, responsive and quick. He was very knowledgeable. We also had a communal kitchen and den where we found some games to play. The only negative was there were rowdy people staying there and the place echoes

A little disappointed
Due to the weather there really wasn't much to do outside. The add stated there was wi-fi so we figured we would watch some movies and cuddle for the weekend. The wi-fi did not work. The care taker said he would look into it but never did. The place was extremely cold which was not mentioned. We decided to leave early. Would not go back
This is such a cool and unique place I am grateful I found it. It's in a gorgeous location with hiking right across the street that leads to beautiful hemlock lake. The building is full of character and history. The room I stayed in was airy and spacious and clean and the private bathroom was perfectly good with everything I need. It was nice to sit in the communal kitchen and chat with friendly people who stay there. Korey is very nice and helpful. His welcome email has all the pertinent information so make sure to read it all. it's slightly "rustic" I guess as in it's not a bed and breakfast, but I find it perfectly comfortable, and what it lacks in frills or luxury it more than makes up for in a sense of calm, wonder, mystery, and community. There may be some gap with VRBO booking because I didn't receive the welcome email ahead of the trip but I got there early and ran into him so was all set from that. So I would just recommend getting in touch with Korey before the trip if you didn't receive an email.

Great communication, poor cleanliness
Kory was incredibly responsive, email, text, calls, doesn't matter. Really exceptional host.
My wife, son and I stayed here in July for two nights. It's a dorm type environment with a shared kitchen, private baths. It was perfect for our needs.
For those traveling with young kids, here is some feedback.
Showers are bad, I took 2 (of 3) cold showers. My kiddo wouldn't
A lot of mouse fecal matter in kitchen, like a ton. I told Kory in the morning, it was not cleaned when I got home in the evening. It was cleaned the next day.
Kory - I love sharing stuff like mustard and salt with the next guest, but please clean out the fridge and cupboard more judiciously, they are nasty.
Really loud, it's an old dormitory with poor insulation. Also really poor curtains, we got up very early as a result.
Lots of fun things to explore on the property and look around, but for my family something we would have enjoyed more as a couple traveling vs traveling with a young kid.
First things first the property is not well maintained we had to hit a tree limb with our car to get up the driveway. The room didn’t have sheets on the bed when we arrived and the bathroom had not been cleaned… the toilet hadn’t been flushed and there was a huge hair clump in the shower drain. Advertised as having air conditioning I would say BARELY! The room was stifling thanks to the black out curtain and no window unit. We asked for a room key to lock the door when we left and half a hour after asking the host was outside working on a SUV and set off the car alarm…. We never received a key. I did not feel safe there. “This isn’t the Taj Mahal” I get it, but basic cleanliness and safety of your guests lives and possessions IS NOT ASKING MUCH. We gathered our things and high tailed it out of there before dark.
Love this property! Such a great place to stay. We were here for 4 nights for our 10th wedding anniversary. We will definitely be back with friends. Very unique and memorable place.
We enjoyed the spacious rooms, speculated about the history of the buildings and rooms, and did not have time to explore more. The stairs were a challenge with luggage, but my physically adept sister was able to handle them easily. Thank you to Korey for his hospitality.

Very Disappointing
I am 86 years old with disability. We waited a full 30 minutes after the 4 PM check-in. for anyone to let us in..Then I got a 3rd floor room, without a key, and no light in the bedroom. I called for assistance; was promised help; received none!
Korey was a perfect host...laid back, helpful, and congenial. It was a lovely communal feeling with the opportunity to meet the other guests and interact to your comfort level.
A must! Property is beautiful and has a creep factor that I love. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Host is great at communication and really helps with accommodating your needs. If you're going to the finger lakes consider staying here.
Very peaceful place. Beautiful buildings and views. Great access to both conesus and hemlock lake. Bring necessaties (i.e. toilet paper) and food and bev with you. Come with an open mind and ya might just surprise yourself. Can't wait to return with my family!

It’s a beautiful place from the outside…
It is truly a beautiful place, but it needs a lot of work. Don’t expect a quaint little inn. Accommodations are very rustic.. Many spaces are communal. Views from the roof are great and great for star gazing at night… overall our stay was just okay….
