About this property
Cosy Cotswold Cottage - Penny Cottage - pet friendly - sleeps 2
Penny Cottage is in the heart of the former Saxon town of Winchcombe. It is a traditional Cotswold cottage with a working inglenook fireplace. It has been offering guest accommodation for short breaks for almost ten years.
Winchcombe is on the Cotswold Way. From the cottage guests have access to miles of country walks from the front door. Sudeley Castle, the resting place of the only Queen of England to be buried outside a royal palace, is within walking distance. A variety of pubs and restaurants can all be found within a 5 minute walk. The town also boasts a variety of independent shops, and two small supermarkets.
The space
There is an enclosed garden to the rear of the cottage.
Please note: there is a refrigerator in the kitchen. It has an ice box. There is no freezer. The stairs are steep.
Guest access: Guests will have sole use of the cottage.
Towels and bed linen are provided. Previous guests have commented on how comfortable the bed is.
Other things to note
There are parking restrictions immediately outside the cottage, though there is free parking for an hour. There is a car park (£1 per day) which is a two-minute walk from the rear of the cottage, via the back gate. It is an old cottage and the stairs are steep. For that reason we do not accept children and the cottage is not advertised as suitable for those with mobility issues. Winchcombe is a working town, surrounded by farmland. Don't be surprised if you see farm machinery driving past the cottage and/or through the town. Cheltenham Racecourse is 7 miles from Winchcombe. Prescott Hill Climb is within 5 miles. It is 45 miles to Stratford-upon-Avon, a journey which should take less than an hour. There are many National Trust Properties within easy reach. If you enjoy walking, have a look at the Winchcombe Welcomes Walkers website. There are far too many footpaths to mention here!
There are occasionally power cuts in Winchcombe which can mean that the heating system re-sets itself/switches off. Unfortunately, my own home is not on the same circuit as Penny Cottage. That means if there is a power outage at the cottage I will not be aware of it immediately that it happens. Any problems can usually be dealt with immediately by contacting Carol

About the host
Hosted by Carol Knotts

I have lived in Winchcombe since 2010. I am a lawyer by profession. Penny Cottage is a means of sharing the wonderful environment I enjoy with others. In my spare time, I enjoy walking and cycling around the area. I also like to sail, but obviously not in the immediate vicinity!
Why they chose this property
Penny Cottage is named after a dear school friend of mine who sadly passed away at around the time I bought it. She loved walking, and we had many walking holidays and day trips in and around the Cotswolds. The cottage is ideally situated for walkers who do not want to cater for themselves, but don't want to go far to find a meal and/or drink after a long day's walking. However, if just relaxing in front of the fire, with a home cooked meal is the preferred option, the kitchen should have all you need to prepare the meal of your choice.
What makes this property unique
The cottage is very convenient for all the local amenities. If you don't want to drive once you have arrived, the Library Car Park, located off back lane, offers off street parking for £1 per day. The route on foot to the car park from the cottage is through the back garden, and across Cowl Lane (a very quiet and narrow road).
The Co-op is less than 5 minutes' walk in one direction (turn left from the front door, then first right), and North Street Stores is even closer in the other direction (turn right from the front door). The pubs and restaurants are all close by (turn right up North Street for the Lion and No5, then right for the rest of the pubs/restaurants).
