Badgers Oak is one of three lodges available to holiday let. Each lodge can sleep up to six people across three bedrooms, providing plenty of space for families and small groups. The wooden exterior has weathered to a beautiful silvery grey, ensuring the lodge sits comfortably against the woodland backdrop. You enter the property via a decked porch; an ideal place for a quiet morning coffee before the rest of the household are up. The ground floor is predominantly an open-plan living space, with doors opening on to a large wooden balcony. The view of the trees can be enjoyed through the doors from inside but by stepping over the threshold, to embrace the wonders of nature, you can also enjoy al fresco dinning on the balcony! The kitchen is equipped for self-catering and being open plan makes it quick and easy to transfer food to hungry guests, be that inside or out. After a day of holiday activities, guests can stretch out on the large corner sofa to relax and watch a favourite film on the wall mounted TV. Climbing the stairs from the hallway will take you to the bedrooms, which are light and airy, lifted by a pop of colour and countryside views from the windows. The ground floor has a bathroom with a shower over the bath, whilst upstairs the guests have access to a shower room.
The Water Mill itself has existed for over a thousand years and is first mentioned in the doomsday book A.D 1086. Still a working mill, it has supplied flour and animal feeds to the people of the island for many years. Flour, muesli and oats are still produced today and can be purchased on site.
Having always been a popular tourist attraction, The Mill is set in 35 acres of rural landscape where you’ll find proud looking peacocks strutting freely around the grounds, often with a few doves or ducks in tow, which are just a stone’s throw away from your accommodation. (Please check the opening times to avoid disappointment when booking.)

LOCATION:
The picturesque village of Calbourne takes its name from the stream that passes through the village - the Caul Bourne. Arguably one of the prettiest west Wight villages, it is not surprising that much of Calbourne is a designated conservation area. The chocolate-box houses that flank Winkle Street (aka Barrington Row) date from the 18th-century and overlook the village namesake. There are numerous local footpaths and bridleways, stretching out over miles of Downland and countryside. Freshwater Bay, famous for crystal clear water and striking coastal views from the cliff tops, along with the iconic Needles are to the West. Renowned for having a warm, sunny climate the island has 57 miles of coastline containing some of the best beaches in the UK. Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde offer miles of golden sandy beaches, whilst Freshwater, Totland, Colwell and Steephill Cove are attractive Bays, great for swimming and sailing.
There are a variety of attractions across the island which can be enjoyed throughout the year - explore the quaint villages, indulge in cream teas and local produce, discover the inventive ways to use garlic at The Garlic Farm and restaurant, take the plunge at the Tapnell Farm Aqua Park, explore the rides and grounds at Robin Hill Adventure Park, broaden your knowledge at the museums and historic sites – or fall in love with the adorable animals at one of the dedicated animal centres, like the Donkey or Wildheart Animal Sanctuaries. Alternatively step into the world of Queen Victoria by visiting her Italian inspired holiday home Osborne House, designed by her beloved husband Prince Albert or enjoy the unique charm to be found at Quarr Abbey. Discover the magical Shanklin Chine or Ventnor Botanical Gardens. Or perhaps a day simply fishing or surfing is more like it? Finally, don’t forget that there is often an event or festival to factor into your holiday agenda, such as the famous Isle of Wight Festival, Cowes Week, the Walking Festival or the Classic Car Extravaganza..

The size of the accommodation was great the bedrooms were a really good size, the sofas were very comfortable, and it was handy for the whole island
Maybe some hooks on the backs of the doors for towels, I'm afraid the bathroom window wouldn't open

Clean and comfortable - great location for exploring the Isle
Clean and comfortable - great location for exploring the Isle. Staff were friendly and at the Calbourne Water Mill (the lodges are on the site) they were super friendly.
All the facilities you’d need for a week (or longer) with lovely countryside walks around the area.
Would recommend for a younger family 👍

Peaceful setting
The positives about Badgers Oak were the peaceful surroundings, the size of the lodge, the location and the welcome pack left out for us. The mill is fairly central on the island so it makes a great base for exploring. The facilities on site were good too, my children loved the mini golf and feeding the ducks, geese, peacocks and chickens, and cafe was good too. It is surrounded by woods and fields you can walk around easily which is definitely a plus and great if you’re bringing a dog. If you want shops etc Newport is 20 minutes drive and there you have everything.
Some negatives too I’m afraid. The whole lodge seemed a little tired, and in need of some small repairs and probably new mattresses. A few things were missing, like only having 5 dining chairs (it sleeps a party of 6), and not enough bedside lamps. It was the end of the summer we stayed so I appreciate this kind of work probably waits until the off season but for the price I felt it could have been kept to a higher standard.
But overall it was very nice and our family appreciated the quiet surroundings.
A great location on an island with lots of things to do and explore. The cabin provided everything we needed for our family getaway, but if I was being honest the mattresses on all the beds left a lot to be desired and didn’t provide the best of nights sleep. A few bits of the cabin could do with updating, but overall I would definitely recommend it.
We booked the this place last minute a few days before arriving after issues with our previous accommodation bookings. We were surprised to find something so great still available in the first week of school holidays.
The accommodation is great, really well set out for a relaxing family holiday (also if you need to work remotely whilst away - the separate dining room means you can have the space and a table to work from if you need to).
The location next to the old water mill is great and all the staff on site are so nice to those staying in accommodation. Lovely tea room, activities for the kids, mini golf and my 2 years favorite - lots of ducks to feed.
it is also really well located and easy to get around to any part of the Island.
Only down side is that as it is an eco lodge and uses a bio hot water system - there was an issue with our hot water and it took 2 days for someone to come fix it which meant cold showers for a day or so. Despite this I would definitely be back to say again.
