The stunning village of Mathry sits atop a hill overlooking both the bucolic countryside stretching out towards the Preseli Hills and also to the West Coast and out to sea. Nestled into the heart of this hilltop idyll is Summerhill Cottage, a semi-detached stone sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This two-bedroomed cottage has been sensitively decorated, and the owners have hit the perfect balance between traditional accommodation and modern comfort - the stone walls and wooden floorboards teamed with Welsh blankets, comfortable seating, and luxury bedding give the entire property an air of country chic.

Despite being a traditional building in a beautiful, rural location, Summerhill Cottage has everything you could possibly need for your stay away; the kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher, washing machine, and wine fridge, and the new Smart TV with surround sound all mean that you can relax in comfort after a day out in the sea air. The generously sized double bedrooms house one 6ft bed that converts to two comfortable 3ft single beds in one downstairs bedroom, while the other double room has a comfortable double bed, and both bedrooms come with The White Company bedding for a fantastic night’s sleep in ultimate comfort.

Outside, the veranda is a delight - this is a south-facing, sheltered garden which is a beautiful sun trap with everything you could possibly need for an evening in the West Wales sunshine. The pizza oven comes with instructions, but bring your own pizza mix, while the Weber Gas BBQ is perfect for steaks, sausages, and freshly caught Pembrokeshire fish. This patio is perfect for two couples taking a mates break away together, or a family of four coming to explore the beaches and wildlife of Pembrokeshire.

With some of the most popular beaches in West Wales less than 6 miles away, and with the coastal path on your doorstep, this beautiful property is perfectly placed for your holiday adventure.

The surrounding area is steeped in history and Welsh culture, offering lots of activities and fun days out. Do visit St. David’s magnificent cathedral, stunning local beaches, surfing, boat trips, walking, cycling and picturesque coastal villages waiting to be explored. You can also travel into the harbour village of Solva with its restaurants, and you can also take a fishing trip from the harbour even learn to sail!

The cottage ticked all the boxes for us.

The cottage ticked all the boxes for us. Perfect location. It was a great base for exploring places not to far away but at the same time could enjoy the quiet village and PUB! The cottage is very well equipped and includes modern features while still maintaining traditional charm. We enjoyed using the pizza oven and bbq and there is a dvd collection to cover all tastes. Only very small negative was that some of the supplies were quite low, I.E. washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, and loo roll. I’m sure if we had made contact these would have been supplied during our visit, but was just as easy for us to restock from shop a short drive away. Master bed was super comfy, may struggle in bed 2 if over 6ft. My wife suffers from allergies and has sensitive sinuses so found the detergent on the bedding a little over powering. I personally found it pleasant but could be a problem for others. Overall we will definitely return and highly recommend. Local trips to consider, St David’s, Whitesands, boat trips from St Justinian’s and the Dale peninsular walk a little further afield. (Give yourself a good half a day to take time taking in the beautiful scenery, and make sure to visit The Griffin for a very well deserved local ale afterwards!)
