About this property
3 bedroom accommodation in Falkland, near St Andrews
This historic cottage sits in an enviable location next to Falkland Palace and features a perfect blend of character and comfort. Set in the heart of this picturesque village, it is perfectly located for a relaxing holiday in Fife.. Located in the centre of the delightful conservation village of Falkland next to the historic Falkland Place, Key House is just perfect for friends and families to spend time together. Dating back to 1713, Key House has been refurbished sensitively as befits its category B listed status. Originally called the Palace Inn, the marriage lintel above the front door bears the initials TM and KK - possibly those of the builder and his wife. It is also possible that the cottage was built from the stone from the palace and both the living room and kitchen/diner feature beamed ceilings made from wood from the ancient Forest of Falkland. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing break or an action-packed holiday Key House is the perfect location - comfortably furnished with plenty of room for up to 6 people. Relax in front of the log-burner in our cosy lounge after a day exploring the historic buildings, quaint alleys and charming gift-shops of Falkland. You’ll sleep like a king in our comfortable bedrooms, especially after taking a walk through Falkland Estate. Make sure you pop into the Estate Stables where you’ll find a welcoming café and a shop stocked with a wide variety of locally-made gifts.
Key House is ideally located for exploring the local area and beyond, with the wide sandy beaches and rocky headlands of the East Neuk of Fife within 30 minutes’ drive. Walkers will love the Coastal Trail which takes you along the shore to old fishing villages with fabulous sea views. Fife is ideal for foodies with Michelin-starred restaurants complemented by award-winning fish and chip shops, as well as numerous farm shops and farmers markets showcasing the best produce the area has to offer. For days out Perth, Dundee and Edinburgh are all within easy reach with the railway station in nearby Ladybank offering regular links. Key House provides the perfect holiday retreat from which to enjoy an abundance of interests and scenic splendour with which this area is blessed at all times of the year. We really loved this spacious cottage situated in the beautiful village of Falkland right next to the Palace (which is well-worth a visit). It was also a good base for visiting such places as St Andrews and Perth - both only half-an-hour away by car. The ensuite bathrooms were a bonus and it was nice to light the fire one evening too. Thoroughly recommended.

Had a great time here over New Year 24-25. Old property but sensitively modernised , with lots of room and in the middle of a historic village with country walks and cafes all around. Lots of info about check in and using the cottage- but not obtrusive or demanding.

What a wonderful location perfect for exploring some of Scotland.
What a wonderful location perfect for exploring some of Scotland. Loved the cottage and the palace backdrop, just my type of property and could imagine living there. The palace was really interesting and the town was very pretty, with lovely little shops and cafes.Only downside was there was only the lack of places to eat in the evening. We had a wonderful holiday, thank you for letting us stay in your property.

This characterful, cosy, well-heated cottage was brilliant for a 3 night stay, whilst visiting family. Brilliant location, being a very short walk to local amenities as well as beautiful, longer country walks. And an easy drive to stock up on provisions, or visit the Fife sea-side towns. Key House is quiet and well equipped - the wood burner and washing machine were particular bonuses after windswept days out. Comfortable beds, and the luxury of 3 bathrooms. Would love to return at a warmer time of year to be able to enjoy the garden.
