About the host
Hosted by John Steel
John and Pauline Steel currently live in Cheltenham, but stayed for many years in a village close to Malmesbury. The property was originally purchased in 1984 for use as John's accountancy office, but was renovated for use as a buy-to-let cottage some years ago prior to being converted to a holiday let. This is our first and only venture as hosts and as such receives our special attention.
Why they chose this property
The property enjoys a town centre location with easy access to shops, pubs and restaurants. It looks out across the town square to the historic Town Hall and Athelstan Museum, and the ancient Malmesbury Abbey beyond, both of which are worthy of a visitor's attention. There is much to explore within England's oldest borough on the edge of the Cotswolds, but it also serves as the ideal hub for visiting the West of England and all it's delights from Stonehenge and Bristol in the South to historic Cotswold towns and villages to the North. It is a good base for visiting sporting events such as the Badminton Horse Trials and the Cheltenham National Hunt festival.
What makes this property unique
The property has been renovated and furnished to a very high standard, and serves as the ideal home-from-home for your holiday break. The perfect place to return to after a hard day's sightseeing. There is a framed deed in the dining area dating back to 1899, but the property itself goes back well before that date. You would be hard pressed to find another property as comfortable as this in such an ideal location surrounded by so much history.
