In the heart of Renaissance Italy, on the Tuscany/Umbrian border, high on 400mt ridge, stands "Podere Borgacciano", 3km. from Monterchi, a medieval walled village (see Thames & Hudson's 'The Most Beautiful Villages in Tuscany').

Our lovingly restored 17C stone villa offers breathtaking magical views & tranquility, set in beautiful mature gardens - wafting scents of roses, lavender, jasmine, rosemary and herbs. 5 acre grounds merge into panoramic countryside - fortified hilltop villages, castles, olive groves, vineyards, chestnut, oak and cypress woods, figs, sunflowers, poppies, corn, tobacco - enjoying total relaxation, peace and privacy without isolation. (village General Store 3kms). Magnificent 14mX6m infinity-edge swimming pool surrounded by lemons, Cypress and Olive groves with stunning views south from beautiful landscaped terraces across valley to the lush green Umbrian hills,

ACCOMMODATION

The main house has three bedrooms, SLEEPING 6, each with en-suite bathroom and air-conditioning.

The ATTACHED apartment ("CANTINA") sleeps a further4 (2 in the bedroom area and 2 in the sofa-bed in the living area and COSTS 15% SUPPLEMENT TO THE QUOTED WEEKLY RATE

The "CANTINA" is accessed directly from the main house.
The Cantina accommodates up to 4 people. The suite is fully equipped with kitchenette, bathroom and air-conditioning. The sleeping area has a king size double bed and there is a double sofa-bed (or 2 SINGLE beds are available) in the lounge area. (Please view video)

THE POOL COMPLEX

MAGNIFICENT 14X6 mt. POOL, surrounded by 350 sq. mtrs. of terraces, walkways, flower beds, cypress and olive trees.

THE POOLHOUSE has a shower/ WC / CHANGING ROOM, SUMMER KITCHEN and large shaded dining terrace with table and chairs.

There are 2 BARBEQUES and a wood fired PIZZA FORNO, from which to enjoy al-fresco meals with stunning views across the valley.

Mediaeval CASTELLO DI LIPPIANO and the lush green Umbrian Hills, form a backdrop from the dining terrace.

We installed the finest pool equipment from the USA made by Culligan. The Diatomea Filter(Fullers Earth)filters out all particles over 0.50 microns. (The average Sand filter, filters out particles over 30 microns, making ours 60X more efficient) The Chlorination and Ph levels are computer controlled. Our groundsman cleans the pool and checks water quality twice a week.

The 14 mt. INFINITY EDGE allows you to feel as if you are swimming in the valley whilst listening to your favourite music from the outdoor speakers.

THE VILLAGE.

Monterchi, its name derived from 'MONS HERCULIS' (hill of Hercules) whose cult was celebrated here in ancient Etruscan and Roman periods, is home of the famous Renaissance fresco "The Madonna del Parto'"(The Madonna of Childbirth) The mother of Piero della Francesca, the painter of the fresco, was born in Monterchi and the village became famous when in 1888 the fresco, painted in 1446 and considered one of Piero's finest masterpieces, was uncovered in the chapel of the cemetery. This restored fresco is now well displayed in the old village schoolhouse.

SIGHTSEEING:

Podere Borgacciano is a 'Springboard' for sightseeing.

Florence (130 kms); Siena (90 kms);San Gimingnano (110 kms.) Assisi (75 kms) Pisa (150 kms); Perugia (65 kms); Arezzo (30 kms) (all distances approx.) are within easy reach. Rome, Bologna, and the Chianti wine countryside are within one to two hours travel. Both the Mediterranean and Adriatic coasts are no more than 2 hrs easy travel.
Local pearls such as Sansepolcro, Citta di Castello, Gubbio, Urbino, Anghiari, Caprese Michaelangelo (the artist's birthplace) and many more, abound with culture, art treasures, music and folk festivals.

Fabulous!

We were 4 girls staying at Podere Borgacciano and we had a fabulous time. The home is lovely -with everything we could want - it is the amazing views, beautifully kept gardens and location that really made it for us. Every window had a gorgeous view and we alternated where we ate breakfast and dinner as there were sitting areas spread around the garden for us to choose from. We loved the being able to pick raspberries, rosemary and collect fresh eggs from the chickens each day and the complimentary olive oil was a treat. We chose to be at the villa late June so we could enjoy warm weather and avoid lots of tourists and our plans worked. Although we didn't swim daily, we certainly enjoyed sitting by the pool reading books and taking in the gorgeous view. As expected after reading previous reviews, Imperia was a highlight! The meal she cooked for us by the pool and the stories told were fabulous. We spent a day looking around her town of Cisterna a 10 minute drive from the villa and had a delicious lunch at a restaurant her family once ran. We loved being close to little villages - enjoying day trips to Sansepolcro and others. The town closest to the villa- Monterchi has a supermarket that we enjoyed - the people running it are friendly and clearly like tourists! We were delighted to be offered local truffles at such a reasonable price and had a gorgeous meal at the villa using them. The help of the owners needs to be mentioned as well. Emails answered promptly and with lots of helpful suggestions - one being the Joust in Arezzo. We stayed in Arezzo and fell in love with the city, such great character and easy to walk around. The Joust happens twice a year and we loved being there for it - it was the suggestion of Danny that we organise tickets and he suggested where to stay and eat in Arezzo - all of which we did and loved! We 4 girls left a total of 9 kids at home (in Australia, Canada and Scotland!) aged from 4-15 and all said we'd love to return with our children and husbands next time!

Monterchi 2022

The property was comfortable and had everything that was needed for our stay. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed spending our evenings sitting out at the pool area across from the house. We made full use of the poolside kitchen and barbecue area. Danny and Jeanette were very welcoming hosts and were extremely helpful when our hire car broke down on the way to the property and helped to quickly resolve a leak. Their knowledge and expertise of the local area meant that we had enriching experiences of the local culture and sights. We would recommend visiting this area to anyone. It is beautiful, tranquil and unspoilt and the places we visited were magical! We hope to return in the future.

Fantastic villa and experience in rural Tuscany

Our family had a wonderful time at this exceptional property located at the Tuscany/Umbria border. The house and accommodation are spacious and beautifully laid out. The views remarkable with multiple external spaces to sit all round the house in the beautiful garden, and wonderful fruit to pick (figs at the time we stayed). The pool area is absolutely amazing: wonderful 14 m pool with lovely setting and views, multiple seating areas and kitchen. I could say much more about the house. The setting is also wonderful with local villages, rich art and restaurants. The delightful owners Janette and Danny pointed us to what to do which included a wonderful outdoor music festival at Anghiari and a long walk of the local hills.

Peaceful and beautiful

There were six of us in our group and we all thoroughly enjoyed and made the most out of the beautiful grounds and pool area. It’s a great space for socialising and eating meals together, and we took advantage of the BBQ a few times too. While the kitchen has most of what you need, it’s quite a small space and does get very hot, so cooking was a bit stressful. Some things could also use a bit of updating, such as fixing the fridge and washing machine doors. We definitely suggest drinking the fantastic wine they have there! Janette and Danny were super helpful with any requests we had, and went out of their way to help us book a taxi. Thank you for the great stay!
