Centrally located and a stone’s throw from the marketplace, you have instant access to the pretty cobbled market square with a great choice of independent shops, pubs and restaurants. The cobbled market square hosts a twice weekly market for you to explore. The historic market town has literally something for everyone from the 15th century church , the small original cinema, a swimming pool, the award winning James Herriot Museum and the ever popular racecourse. A trip to see the stunning views from Sutton Bank is less than 4 miles from the property and offers endless walking trails.
If you feel the need to venture further afield then Thirsk provides excellent access to the North Yorks Moors national park, the pretty market towns of Helmsley and Harome with its Michelin starred restaurants as well as the market towns of Northallerton, Easingwold and Stokesley. Slightly further afield are the beaches of Whitby and Scarborough, and the excellent award winning beaches of Saltburn. There are also plenty of opportunities for day trips to the spa town of Harrogate, pretty cathedral city of Ripon or the ancient walled city of York which is just 25 miles away, and if you don’t feel like driving there is an excellent train service from Thirsk station. Thirsk also offers the base to explore the beautiful countryside with some of the best historical buildings nearby, including castle Howard, Beningborough Hall and the beautiful monastery ruins of Rievaulx, Fountains Abbey and Mount Grace Priory. The only challenge will be trying to fit everything in…. in just one week!
Luckily throughout the year there are many events on the Thirsk racing calendar, and other local events within easy walking distance, meaning Porters Vault provides a great all year round place to come and stay.
