Holy island is and excellent walking an birdwatching destination. It is especially rich in flora and fauna and is part of a marine nature reserve. Highlights include, unique flowers, countless seals, and wading birds.

The island is dominated by the 16th century Lindisfarne Castle, standing dramatically on a rocky outcrop. This island is also home to the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, the 7th century seat of Christian learning and is where the Lindisfarne Gospels were created.

The causeway closes twice a day at high tide, please consult local tides times when crossing. You are perfectly placed to explore Northumberland’s highlights, including Bamburgh Castle, boat trips from Seahouses to the Farne Islands, Alnwick, Berwick-upon-Tweed and many beautiful coastal walks.

A beautiful cottage in the heart of Holy Island village.

A beautiful cottage in the heart of Holy Island village. It provided the perfect base for exploring the wonderful wildlife of the island, as well as pottering around the small shops, cafes and pubs. We stayed in autumn and it was lovely to come back to such a warm cottage. The bed was really comfortable, the kitchen had great appliances for cooking and the shower was lovely and hot. Perfect! We'll be back.

Third time staying in these cottages and it has always been wonderful.

Third time staying in these cottages and it has always been wonderful. I note that others have had complaints about the cleanliness; however, it has always been fine for me. I suspect that the issue is that the cleaner has less time than usual because of the tides, so if the previous tenant makes a mess of the cottage then it becomes difficult to clean it in time. My only complaint is that the WiFi is very poor. I think that the two cottages are sharing a connection but the walls are too thick for it to penetrate through. I am sure that this will be sorted before long. Holy Island is one of the best places in the world and I love staying there. These cottages are in a perfect location and are amongst the most affordable accommodation on the island.
