This house was in a good location-close to town. The owner was very quick to get back to me with any questions I had. Was nice to come back and swim in pool after busy day. We enjoyed our stay. My only complain was the neighbors dog barking, but that is not her fault or anything she can control.
Nela was extremely responsive and accommodating. The house is great and worked well for our family. Our only complaint was the neighborhood dog that barked incessantly.
Very nice. Same as appeared online. Beautiful view of Arenal. Some confusion with instructions. Hard to find! Lots of ants outside doorway. Water in cabina warm at best. Overall enjoyed it alot.
The place was perfect for our family of 6! The home was clean and comfortable! My husband & I slept in the cabana while our 4 kids (ages 16,14,11 & 10) took the house. None of our kids were concerned about us not being in the house while we all slept and we all felt very safe! The location is perfect! We were busy all day so our kids mostly swam at night (which it gets dark early so it wasn’t really late). The host was very quick & patient with answering our questions!
Great layout for up to 3 couples! Excellent location just a quick drive from downtown La Fortuna or from the Arenal Volcano. Property was in a safe and relatively quiet neighborhood with the only exception being a dog nearby that was often barking. Would definitely recommend to a family or a group of friends looking for a getaway in La Fortuna!
Our stay at Magnalia was lovely. It was just enough space for our family of 5 to be comfortable. Our two girls (12 and 10) shared a room, and our son (14) stayed in the guest house. I was worried at first with him not being in the main house, but it was fine. He did complain about the shower (mold and bugs), so he ended up showering in the main house. We arrived at the property in the dark, so getting in was a little tricky. The lockbox is right beside a padlock, so we thought that was the lock to enter. It was not - it is further to the right to open the driveway. The Property Manager got back to me quickly, though, with a decoder ring for the key and lock colors. This was super helpful, and I wish I had had that before bothering her late at night! Upon entering the home, there was a strong stale smell. I assume this is because no one had stayed in a bit. We brought candles and room spray, which helped. Otherwise, the house was awesome. Very well stocked with what we needed. Our kids enjoyed having the pool to play in after our long days of excursions. I highly recommend Magnalia House.
Very quaint and private house. Spent the mornings drinking coffee and looking at the beautiful volcano. Easy communication with host for anything we needed. We even broke one of the keys and she was so helpful with the issue we caused. Sorry again. Would definitely stay here again.
Magnolia House was a great location to have as a home base while exploring Costa Rica and the Arenal region. Great hosts that are responsive and happy to provide additional insight into the area.

Liked: Communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
The host was very communicative and even offered local suggestions for food/activities, which was appreciated. However, we booked a house rather than a hotel based on the ability to have a kitchen/make meals at home and sadly this was not possible. We entered at night to a house with all the windows open and bugs inside the house. Given that we were in the jungle, we anticipated some bugs, but the house had toms of mosquitos and moths (likely from windows being open) and a significant number of small ants crawling all over the kitchen counter. We spent time cleaning the house but the ants continued to appear each AM/PM and ended up on our fresh food we had picked up at the local market - causing us to trash our food. Big waste of money. That paired with a lack of cooking utensils made having a kitchen a moot point. The place is cute and if you can deal with the potential of having lots of bugs in the house then it may be work out for you. It just wasn't how I wanted to spend my money.

Response from VrboOwner on 9 Apr 2026
This guest starts with a truth, I am very easily accessible, then this guest tells a complete, exaggerated lie, we never ever leave any windows or doors open, ever!
This guest has small children.
This guest left food on the floors, tables, chairs, remotes etc... with the windows and doors open expecting no insect issues. This guest blamed me for alot of her problems. I regret giving a good review for her but I try to take the high road in these cases. Money cant buy class. This guest lied about us leaving windows open!
The location was perfect. Close to all the tours we had booked. Nela was quick to respond to all our questions. She also included great recommendations for restaurants. She made it a great stay!
If you are traveling g with other couple or a family, it is hard to find nice place with theee very nice bedrooms, bathrooms and a pool. The kitchen was great too. They also gave us great dinning recommendations.
