Bologna is a city of art, culture and trade. The capital of Emilia-Romagna is also known as “Dotta” (erudite), being the oldest university of the West, as “Grassa” (fat) for its gastronomic delights and “Rossa” (red) for the colors characterizing its old town. Its soul is in the medieval old town, one of the biggest in Europe, dotted in taverns, workshops and theaters, characterized by almost 40 km of porticoes. In the city center there is Piazza Maggiore, where the charm of medieval buildings is perfectly combined with modernity. Not to be missed are the Fountain of Neptune by Giambologna and the Medieval Towers, “Torre degli Asinelli” and “Torre della Garisenda”, part of a rich cultural heritage preserved in several museums, art galleries and religious buildings. It is allowed to leave Bologna only after having tried its gastronomic products, among which mortadella, tortellini, ragù alla bolognese while sipping famous DOC wines from the Bologna hills! Rich in exhibitions, fairs and cultural events, Bologna can surprise you in every season.

The central train station is a 12-minute walk away while the airport can be reached by car in about 20 minutes.

Big apartment on a busy street

This apartment has large rooms and an elevator for easy access. It was clean and well equipped (though no food whatsoever not even salt nor sugar). It is on a busy street with buses and bars so it can be noisy in the evenings.

Nice apartment, great location.

This is a nice apartment. Good size, clean & comfortable, well equipped. On the top floor of a block, but has a lift. The photos on the listing don’t really do it justice - it’s better in real life. Location is great - short walk from both the railway station and the main square/old town. An instruction pack would have been handy for operating the aircon and for the time the electrics tripped out and needed resetting. But other than that I would easily recommend staying in this apartment.

Authentic Bologna

Husband, son, DIL and I stayed here for 2 nights because I wanted to be near the historic sights yet be close to the university. We accomplished both with this VRBO. It was clean yet historic, and old yet modern. I had read reviews about the noise at the front of the unit and this rang true into the night because there is a bar underneath where folks gather. Be aware of this if you are a light sleeper like me. Also, my main concern/complaint is the bed was not comfortable. The mattress and pillows are both thin.

Nice modern apartment

The apartment is located on a busy street, above shops about a nice 15 minute walk from the old city. If you have a car, check for parking in advance because it is extremely difficult to find street parking. Even drop off and pickup is a challenge. The apartment is actually exactly as it appears in the photos. The air conditioning did not work adequately while we were there. It was very hot during our stay (upper 90’s) and the apartment was never below 85 for the two days we were there. They did bring us fans the second day, which definitely helped, but the first night was quite hot. I think that the AC would probably be ok in more reasonable temperatures but that it was just not strong enough to cool in the rather extreme heat. The property manager Alessio was very responsive and sweet in many texts trying to get the AC working, he sent two repairmen and really did try to help.
