Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: The village grew originally in the 17th century due to its location on the old military road which is now the A 811 and developed further with the arrival of the railway between Stirling and Balloch, at the south end of Loch Lomond. A further connection was added to Aberfoyle to accommodate the increasing tourist numbers. The lines were all discontinued by the 1950s and the main route through the village is the main A811 between Stirling and Loch Lomond. The village today has an inn, a supermarket, post office and coffee shop/ pottery shop and an art gallery. Most of central Scotland can easily be accessed from the village with Loch Lomond, The Trossachs, Stirling and Glasgow all within easy reach.
