About this property

Spacious Coastal Cottage close to Beach & Dunes

Once Winterton’s village shop, this charming three-bedroom cottage is now a spacious and welcoming retreat, perfectly located just a short walk from the dunes and village amenities.

Step inside to a generous open-plan lounge and dining area, designed for relaxed gatherings. There’s comfortable seating for all, along with a TV with Freesat, Blu-ray player, and a selection of DVDs and games for cosy evenings in. The dining and living spaces are subtly divided by the main staircase, adding character to the room.

From here, continue through to the well-equipped kitchen, complete with oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, and a large fridge freezer. Beyond the kitchen, you’ll find a second staircase, a convenient downstairs WC, and a utility room with washer/dryer.

Upstairs, the cottage offers flexible and thoughtfully arranged accommodation. From the front staircase, the landing leads to a twin bedroom with two 3' single beds, and a spacious main bedroom with a king-size bed. The main bedroom connects to a large Jack and Jill bathroom, featuring a bath, separate shower, WC and washbasin.

This bathroom also leads through to the rear landing, where you’ll find a further double bedroom and a second bathroom with a large walk-in shower, WC and washbasin. This part of the cottage can also be accessed via the back staircase, offering added flexibility for families or groups. All bedrooms are fitted with blackout blinds for a restful night’s sleep, and a high chair and travel cot are available on request.

Outside, the enclosed garden is accessed from the kitchen and provides a lovely spot to relax, complete with seating and astro turf. On quiet days, you can even hear the sound of the sea nearby.

There is parking for one car at the front of the property, with additional parking available within the village.

Up to three dogs are welcome at The Old Village Shop at no additional charge. Dogs are welcome throughout the downstairs living areas and may join you on the sofa when using the throws provided. We kindly ask that dogs are not left unattended in the property.

The Old Village Shop is in a great location & is a lovely house which was very well equipped.

The old village shop is lovely, in an excellent location, great that you have a shop, pub, chip shop & a couple of cafes just minutes away & of course the beach. The house had everything we needed & was very comfortable for us & our two dogs, we walked a lot & never went out in the car all weekend a real bonus. We would love to stay there again.

Beautiful location

A wonderful stay! Perfectly located for walking to the beach and close to local convenience store and coffee shop. Easy access to walking/running trails as well. The house had everything we needed and we were able to stay comfortably with four adults and two children

Excellent location and a great place to stay

We stayed for a week at the Old Village Shop house which is a quirky and unusual property full of character and charm. There is even a facade on the outside which is a delight to see plus the history of the home is provided. Lovely warm house, plenty of hot water, great large shower and everything and more you could need for a great stay. Parking on front drive which is great (so often properties don't have private parking) and a short walk to the dunes and beach. Responsive, caring and friendly owners (booked through Winterton Cottages). Definitely recommend.

Very comfortable and pleasant house

My only comment would be- to brush down cobwebs on the outside furniture. The house was in a great location and fully equipped

Five stars all round for a fantastic stay

We very much enjoyed our stay and found a new walk through the dunes very close by. The Old Village Shop was immaculate and had everything we needed and more we didn’t know we might need! It was very light and airy, comfortable from the large sofa to the bed and huge bathroom. The weather was good to enjoy the dog friendly garden and BBQ. Location was ideal for everything from beach to pub to shop and parking. We loved the quirkiness of 2 staircases and the old shop window, I bet there are some stories to be told!

Lovey visit

This is a really lovey cottage to stay in. Very comfortable and has a well equipped kitchen. A stones throw away from the dunes to the beach. A lovely basket of treats was left on the table for us. Would highly recommend staying here.

A wonderful place to stay

The Old Village Shop provided a perfect base to explore the wonderful beach & sand dunes. The village store, Pub & chip shop are all a very short walk away. The accommodation was homely, spacious, clean & warm. It worked perfectly for us with our dog. We would highly recommend it & we would love to go again.

The old village review

Lovey place to stay, Kitchen a bit tiny especially when you have dogs. Parking only just managed to get car on drive, especially with cars parked across the road.

Our thoughts

A lovely cottage in a great location to explore Norfolk or enjoy the dunes, which are a 2 minute walk. A nice local pub that is always welcoming. This is our 4th visit to the Old Village Shop so, that should say it all. Looking forward to the next one.

The Old Village Shop

We've been staying in different cottages in winterton-on-sea for the last 10 years once if not twice a year and The Old Village Shop is probably the best we've stayed in it was clean, comfortable and in a good location. Only downside was the garden furniture had been damaged the week before we arrived and no replacement had been sourced before our arrival, but the owners had texted to tell me. We will definitely return.

Beautiful cottage in a stunning village!

Everything about this trip was outstanding - the customer service from Winterton Cottages at the point of booking where Rachel couldn't have been more helpful giving me so much information. The cottage was outstanding, had absolutely everything we could have needed (we will be packing much less next visit!) and a lovely welcome basket of treats on arrival too. The village is stunning has all the essentials (pub, cafe, beach cafe & shop!) but was so quiet and quaint - we had the most peaceful relaxing week - have already booked the Village Shop for the same time next year and are hoping to fit another long weekend at some point later this year!

A beautiful house and a wonderful stay!

Everything about this house was perfect for us, from its location to the facilities and great thought that has been put into decorating and furnishing the property. The house is wonderful, with a great layout and plenty of space. We were happy and comfortable throughout our stay and will definitely return as it felt more of a home from home than just a house rental. We had 2 little dogs with us who are highly suspicious of wooden floors, so it was ideal that the house was carpeted downstairs and allowed them to move around freely rather than as if they were on an ice rink! We have been to Winterton a number of times and by far, this was our favourite house. I almost don't want to recommend it to others incase we can't then get availability to stay here again, but in reality I cannot recommend this property highly enough, it was absolutely wonderful!!

Wonderful weekend in Winterton!

This was our second visit to Winterton, but the first time staying in The Old Village Shop. The house was comfortable and warm, and the kitchen well equipped. I was pleased to find plenty of mugs, crockery and cutlery. We were aware of the quirky layout and it was fine for us, but be aware the second staircase at the back of the house is steep and narrow. There was plenty of room on the large sofa for 5 of us to watch TV. There was also a selection of games, puzzles, books and DVDs in the house. We chose the house partly because it had a parking space, but there was on street parking available too. We used the village shop and had a delicious takeaway from the fish & chip shop. It was an easy drive into Great Yarmouth for a bit of seaside fun and we also walked along the dunes into Hemsby. Winterton is a brilliant location for easy access to the beach and sand dunes, all within a few minutes walk. Loved the village as much as we did on our first visit in 2022 and will definitely return.
