Blare Cottage is one of six countryside cottages at Lower Aylescott situated just outside the small village of West Down, not far from the larger coastal resorts of Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Combe Martin. Tastefully decorated and thoughtfully furnished throughout, this bright and spacious family friendly holiday cottage offers comfortable self-catering accommodation for up to four guests in two bedrooms.

Lovely stay

A really lovely home from home. Very comfortable and set in the most tranquil of locations. A short drive down lanes to reach the main roads but very quiet lanes which never posed a problem.

Loved staying in Blare cottage. It was a peaceful relaxing place for us exactly what we needed to to find. A little bit more outside space of our own is all we would have liked, but the lovely owner allowed us to be outside elsewhere on another of her properties. Even saying that we wouldn’t have wanted a different cottage as it just had a special something we clicked with. Hard to explain sorry.

Comfortable place to stay but no view

We loved the location of the cottages and grounds and beautiful lake. However the downside to Blare Cottage is that there was no view from any window and it was quite dark downstairs. Good for short stay and ideally located for the wonderful beaches that are not far away In a car and the surrounding countryside. But disappointing because of positioning of Blare Cottage.

Family wedding/holiday

22members of family stayed in five of the six cottages .A family wedding bridal party left from cottages then a week in the Devon sunshine. Cottages had everything we needed and more.New park area for the 9 grandchildren and a lake for those that enjoy fishing.Owners very friendly and looked after us well.would not hesitate in booking again.

Fantastic holiday

We had a wonderful holiday at Blare Cottage, the location is stunning, it’s fairly remote and down some very windy little roads but so peaceful and beautiful. There is loads of space for kids to run and play and a brilliant wooden play frame. The fishing lakes on site were a bonus too. The cottage itself is fairly compact and has all the basics you need for a week away, comfy beds, and nicely decorated. Only slight niggle was the TV wasn’t a smart tv so no option to watch Netflix etc of an evening, that’s a bit of a given in holiday accommodation these days! It’s in a great location, 15 mins drive to Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and easy to get to other North Devon beaches and theme parks. Overall we had a fantastic holiday, would rerun here again and recommend to any families looking for a good value break in North Devon.

Peaceful location but accessible

Lovely cottage, well equipped and clean and close to car park. Janine, one of the owners was very friendly and helpful. Peaceful location but only a few minutes drive from local pub and only 10 minutes from a large supermarket. 15 to 20 minutes drive from four different seaside resorts. You definitely need a car. Fishing is ideal for (supervised) youngsters with lots of small fish. Nature lovers will find many different birds: we often saw a woodpecker feeding on the large lawn area plus 2 Canada geese with 3 very young goslings.

A wonderful stay - time and time again!

We have stayed at Lower Aylescott, three times now - each time it has been a different time of year and once was with our whole family taking one cottage each! The site is simply stunning - a hidden treasure. The owners are friendly, welcoming and let you get on with your holiday but are so easy to get hold of, should you need them for anything. From the cottages, Devon is so easy to explore and at the end of each day, you return to a home from home setting that has absolutely everything you could possibly need. You don't actually have to go out if you don't want to; there are lakes, a playground and plenty of space to chill on site. We will be returning for sure and highly recommend this as a place to stay.
