A spacious, comfortable and well-equipped Arts and Crafts house. A short walk to the amenities of the village, and direct access from the 3-acre woodland garden to the fell.

Amazing place to stay.
An absolutely fantastic week staying in a most amazing house. Everything we could have wanted was provided for us. The beds were very comfy, the kitchen cupboards contained plenty of space and crockery. We felt at home as soon as we walked through the front door. We have been holidaying in the Lake District for years and this is the best house we have ever stayed.

Lovely characterful house
Daweswood is a beautiful, characterful large house that suited our needs very well. The property is very convenient for walking (we did walks around Ullswater and up Helvellyn and High Street starting at the house) and is in excellent condition. The house was also well equipped and clean, while we slept v well in the comfy beds. The grounds are extensive, although our one small complaint is that some of the trees are so close to the house that it made some rooms feel dark even on a bright day.

Characterful, spacious property in a fantastic location.
We really enjoy staying in properties with character and Daweswood certainly delivers in that respect. The house is beautifully positioned in its own extensive wooded grounds and there’s plenty of outdoor space for dining and watching the wildlife - we saw red squirrels several times. The house is impressive inside though the dark wood panelling downstairs may not be to everyone’s taste -we liked it. There were many interesting features throughout including original leaded-light windows and some beautiful stained glass. The kitchen was well-equipped and easy to work in. Rooms were characterfully furnished but some of the furniture was not very comfortable. Lighting in some rooms was too subdued for our tastes but that added to the character. We would have liked more information about the history of the house but couldn’t find any. The thick walls mean that the house stays cool even on hot days.
A great place to stay especially for a large party who are prepared to accept some idiosyncrasies.

Thank you for your review of Daweswood, the owners have sympathetically furnished the cottage to keep it in keeping with its character. They are intending to do some upgrades at the end of the season which will further enhance the property and character. We hope we can welcome you back again in the future.
