Spend The Weekend Aboard Your Own Private Yacht In Historic Charleston
Under new ownership as of May 2017. Located in the Heart of Charleston's Historic District, Southern Comfort is docked at the Charleston City Marina and less than 50 feet from our gated parking lot.
We are 3 blocks from the Historic Battery just past the Coast Guard Station, and six "city blocks" from Meeting Street and the Market Area.
From the magnificent architectural homes of the Battery, and the finest restaurants in the south, to the art and antique shops, Charleston is a place unlike any other.
PLEASE NOTE IT IS EXTREMELY EXPENSE TO MAINTAIN A BOAT SUCH AS THIS. Therefore the boat books for TWO people. There is an additional guest charge per person up to eight people after the first two. This makes the boat approachable for a couple as well as very economical for larger groups to enjoy the boat. Remember what your parents taught you.. if it’s to good to be true. It probably is. By booking the boat in this way it makes it reasonable for all parties involved. We love sharing out boating experience with people and try very hard to upkeep it. It’s a fantastic way to spend time in Charleston and a very unique experience that most people will not find anywhere else. Capt. Dave.

Perfect place for our girls weekend. Location is great as well. We each had our own room and bathroom which was a plus. It was so nice to sit in the living room each morning while having our coffee telling stories about the night before. Salty Dogs is a great hole in the wall to start your nightly adventures. Be sure to bring towels and paper products as toilet paper and paper towels were limited. Enjoy!

Should have been better.
We were a party of 4 women over 50 in Charleston for the Wine and Food Festival. Parking turned out to be $17 per day, no free in and out, though there is an hourly shuttle into town between 8 am and 5 pm. We loved the common areas for socializing and would not have had that in a hotel. We think this property has so much potential. But... Pictures don’t tell all. It’s a nice boat and is nicely decorated and stocked, but definitely could use some attention. There are a lot of places for food and bugs to hide; the food did, but the bugs didn’t. The photos had us excited about using the deck, which was nice after you climbed the literal ladder and if you ignored the stagnant water in the dinghy. We were surprised by WiFi password and gate codes that hadn’t been updated and the alarm that went off when two people flushed at the same time. Sorry for the call, but we couldn’t fix it without help. If you might be concerned about security, be advised the boat cannot be locked in your absence. While overall the marina feels secure, a cruise ship came in while we were there, off-loading a lot of passengers. The full kitchen is great. Would have liked a working ice maker. Also would have appreciated a consistent temperature; it felt like a sauna in the sleeping quarters at night. Be aware of the rules - shoes off; don’t get makeup on the towels or risk a $30 charge; visiting friends are discouraged. Overall, much as we liked the “adventure” of staying on the yacht for the festival, we could have stayed at a nice hotel for the price.
Our friends had a great time. The rooms are small other than the master, and be prepared to handle the quirks of being on a boat, but this is definitely a stay you won’t forget!
Unique fun place to stay at the Marina. Host was detailed in the working of the Yacht, and very courteous on arrival times. Great place to sit on an afternoon and enjoy the Charleston weather.
We were welcomed by Captain Dave on the dock at the marina and he walked us to the Southern Comfort. He gave us a hurried introduction to the idiosyncrasies of a floating B&B and quickly left to attend to another charter. We would have benefited from more details about how to get our luggage on board, how to contact the dock office, and checkout procedures. He never told us there is no way to lock the yacht on departure. The beds were made and ready for guests. Kids will enjoy sleeping in the bunk beds. The cabin with twin beds has no window covering, so we used pillows to block the glare. One of the toilets was blocked. There were three others in working order. There were plenty of nice body towels. The yacht is 0.25 mile from the parking lot. There are luggage carts or the dock office will arrange people to take your luggage in a golf cart. Please tip them. The stairs into the yacht are narrow and difficult for anything other than small bags. Be sure to pick up drinking water before boarding. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and glassware. There were no dish towels. The only paper products were toilet paper and paper towels. Only one sink had hand soap. There is a coffee maker. You can walk to King Street in about 35 minutes. We enjoyed the living space and especially having coffee on the top deck in the morning.
Such a cool experience to stay on a yacht! Captain Dave was very responsive. The coffee pot was unusable so he promptly went out and bought a brand new which was most appreciated. I was surprised that you couldn't feel the movement (rocking) of the yacht at all. I would highly recommend staying on Southern Comfort!
Owner came on the property without warning while we were away. Totally against VRBO . Air conditioning went out and owner completely lost his composure . We left a day early.
It's a great way to experience something different. It's a boat understand what your booking. Master suite was excellent, galley has plenty of space, and solon is well appointed. Flybridge gives you a nice outdoor space to hang out.
We had a wonderful weekend on the Southern Comfort. Sitting on the fly bridge was so perfect that we did not to want to leave to go to downtown Charleston. Sleeping accommodations other than in the main bedroom are very cramped for people taller than 5’8”.
We are not sorry we had this experience on a lively yacht, but we would most likely not rebook. Booked for 6 adults - only had towels for 4. Only 2 coffee mugs available.
Overall, the Southern Comfort provided us with a memorable experience we enjoyed.
Was great, had plenty of room and a great location.

We Married in May of 2000 and left Connecticut in 2013, moving to Charleston. We wanted to pursue our love of boating and be on the water all year round.
We started Carolina Marine Group in 2013 providing harbor tours. We have been building the business and the brand ever since. Our mission is to provide the best on the water experience in the greatest city in the US. We took ownership of “Southern Comfort” in 2017 to expand our operation and to provide our water loving guests a unique way of spending their time in Charleston.
We hope your stay with us is a memorable one and you fall in love with this great city as much as we have. Enjoy your stay and if there is anything we can do to make it more enjoyable don’t hesitate to ask.
