The winding, tree-lined road takes you up Clover Lane to a well maintained vacation home with central heat/air and modern appliances. Park the car in the circular drive, put the groceries away, then enjoy the breezes from the elevated porch that wraps around the front or the back deck, as well as under the gazebo. Whether you come to escape the summer heat, marvel at the vivid colors of autumn, or just get away to relax, the slow pace and serene beauty of the Smokey Mountains calls.

From the open kitchen to the wide sweeping living room, cool mountain breezes blow through in the summer, and the fireplace can take the chill off autumn nights.

It’s just a short ride into town for groceries, restaurants, and antiques. The John C Campbell Folk School is about 10 minutes away. Day trips will take you to amazing waterfalls, white water rafting, horseback riding, and many other mountain get-a-ways.

The home is absolutely beautiful! So quiet and comfortable. There are deer galore in the neighborhood! We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay and would stay here again any time! Carol is wonderful and answers any questions quickly. We have zero complaints!

Great cabin, very clean and well appointed

This cabin is better than described. We spent 3 short nights here and would definitely stay again if we are back in Murphy. The house was very clean and had everything you need for a great visit.

Homey Getaway

Nice area, just a few minutes from town. Very quiet and peaceful, clean & seemed to have everything we needed. Enjoyed seeing the deer every day & they didn't seem to mind us. We enjoyed our stay. Thanks a lot.

Deer Haven

My husband and I absolutely enjoyed out stay in this lovely home! To sit in the gazebo and just watch the deer and the little turkey came out to say hi also. With all the hardships in NC right now, it was an amazing time. A big thank you to Carol for keeping in contact with us and answering any questions we had! We would love to stay here again!!

Best kept secret in Murpy

Beautiful in all respects , deer and turkey in woods every day The family room was beautiful, home well supplied with toiletries and linen, kitchen exquisite and well supplied , bedrooms very comfortable. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return Thanks Carol

Carol's house.

Carol's house was perfect for us. Very easy access from the town. Everything was so clean,the kitchen has everything you need. She have books, dvds ,playcards for fun. Recommend for families.

Felt like home!

This cabin felt like home from the time we walked in the door. We were able to put corn out on the ground in the back yard and watch the deer during our entire stay. The washer and dryer were great and having a fully functional kitchen were great come dinner time! We will definitely be back!

Wonderful retreat

My husband, friend, and I stayed at this cozy cabin for a week while taking classes John C Campbell Folk School. The location was very convenient, 10 minutes from the school and about 15 minutes to Murphy. The neighbor was beautiful, full of trees and wildlife. The cabin was comfortable and welcoming. The kitchen was very well stocked! We will definitely look to stay there again next time we come to the folk school.

Wonderful place to stay while at the Folk School

We enjoyed our stay while taking a class at the Folk School. The house was clean and well-equipped. The beds were comfortable. We especially enjoyed watching the deer and wild turkeys. Unfortunately, we got lots of rain during our stay so we couldn’t sit on the beautiful decks. We had a little trouble with the dishwasher our first night, but Carol was responsive and got a repairman there very quickly. Overall, a very nice stay. We will stay there again!

We had a lovely time in the mountains The deer were so much fun to watch. We also saw turkeys. very nice time. Cleaning company did not come in and clean after last guest. Carol offered to put us in a hotel and have someone come in but we chose to clean it ourselves so we did not have to move stuff on and out multiple times because we had food that need to be in refrigerator Carol refunded our cleaning fee

Enjoyable Experience

Had a wonderful time. My husband and I booked with the expectation of getting away for the weekend a recharging. Staying here did just that. Property was clean and had everything we needed. Loved booking somewhere that had a fully stocked kitchen because we did most of our eating at the cabin. Bed was extremely comfortable. More than enough to do within an hour drive. If you ever decide to stay here, I recommend taking a trip to the Cherhala Skyway and then turn on Bald River Falls RD. Trust me, you will not regret it.

Quiet and fun vacation

Enjoyed our stay. It was really cold which we had hoped for. Carol was easy to reach if needed and very friendly. Loved our morning coffee out on the porches rocking in the chairs. Beautiful looking out over the porch where the deer and turkeys came through the property. That was fun to watch. Made yummy S'mores out on the fire pit. We love North Carolina. Went to Scaly Mtn for snow tubing. Visited Two Crows Alpaca Farm and got lots of Alpaca kisses. Thank you so much. Gwen

The kitchen set up was great everything you needed was there.the home. Had everything you needed also It was clean and a quiet place to study. Nice porch to drink coffee at night or morning deer every morning and evening you can feed them if you like the house was beautiful and very nice. Walmart was close and downtown was beautiful. The shops were nice. There’s plenty to do in the area within an hour or two drive very very nice. This is the second time we stayed will definitely be back. Thank you

Great Accommodations

We were visiting family nearby so the location for ideal. The home had everything we could need for our 8 day stay, including a fully stocked kitchen. It was also clean and comfortable. We saw many deer and wild turkeys on the property and in the neighborhood. So awesome. This was a wonderful retreat. We had one issue that was not in her control but Carol was super engaged until it was resolved. I would stay here again.

This is a beautiful home and has everything you need. The beds are comfy. Beautiful views of mountains and we seen at least 20 deer walking in the backyard. It's perfect!! We will return.

December Getaway

The cabin was just as described. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you have at home utensils, crockpot, pots and pans etc.We had a little problem working the TVs. Carol was very patient in helping me figure it out. She even had her daughter call to help me out. It was user (me) error. We saw all the college football games!

Murphy Getaway

The Pierce Huber house was very comfortable. It was conveniently located near downtown Murphy. Every need was taken care of and the house was very clean. Loved watching the deer in the morning.

I am a retired middle school teacher and college advisor. I spent a year as as an exchange teacher in Nagano, Japan, and have traveled to Australia and Scotland. My first cruise ever took me to Cuba. This was my parents' summer home and I love being here in the mountains. I know you will too!

Why they chose this property

My parents, Jim & Carmel Pierce, built this house as a summer retreat after they retired, and spent many summers here until their passing. When I acquired the house, I began updating and making it mine. Hence the name, Pierce-Huber House. I'm proud to share it with you...

What makes this property unique

Aside from the nostalgia, I love coming to this home in Murphy to enjoy the serenity and wonderful neighbors and friends. The quaintness of the small town is a welcome contrast to the big city that is my permanent residence, and the peaceful, easy pace in Murphy provides relaxation and friendly banter that comes from North Carolina hospitality. The deer and wild turkeys abound and, whether you want to fish, hike, boat, or enjoy the solitude, this is the place for you.
