About this property
Picturesque Elizabethan Court
Wilton Court is a peaceful hideaway nestled in the quiet village of Wilton, just outside of Ross on Wye.
The Grade II listed house features idyllic views across the well established gardens as well as views across the River Wye to Ross on Wye.
The original house was built in the 1500s and a wing added in the 1700s, and more recently the 1980s.
Initially built as a house for the inhabitants of Wilton Castle when the manor house there burnt down, it was then used as a court for the local area during the 1600s, becoming Wilton Court.
The current formal dining room, 'The Whisky Room', was the courtroom during that period.
Formerly a hotel and restaurant, the grade II listed building has been carefully renovated into an 8 bedroom holiday let while retaining many of its original features. Adjoining Wilton Court is Wilton Cottage, a 2 bedroom cottage which you can find under our other listings should you require additional space.
The property offers the perfect blend of modern comforts and hints of historic charm, which makes it a perfect stay for family gatherings and special occasions.
The kitchen and family room are at the front of the property, facing the spacious well established garden. The original beams and lime pointed stone walls really add to the character of the kitchen. It is fully equipped with new appliances, including a double-hobbed induction cooker, american style fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, and a full range of catering sized cookware and utensils. A choice of 3 seating areas offers ample space for all guests to dine together.
What was once the restaurant, is now a bright family room, comfortable and spacious, with plenty of seating. The room boasts a large stylish corner sofa, two comfy snuggle chairs and a 55” smart TV. The ornate fixtures and fittings compliment the room, which makes it a really enjoyable, chill out space.
The conservatory is full of natural light and serves as a games room, with a multi games table, allowing you to swap between pool, air hockey and table tennis.
Across the hall is the whisky room. The space is beautifully decorated with deep rich colours and antique furnishings. The centrepiece of the room is a grand antique dining table. The space is perfect for hosting evening meals, or why not host a games night amongst the dark and moody interiors. The large table accommodates 10 - 12 diners, which can be extended to 14 - 16 with the addition of an occasional table also situated in the room.
The house sleeps up to 18 guests in 8 bedrooms. Rooms on the first floor include 2 doubles and 3 king size beds, all with their own ensuite. Up on the 2nd floor there is a further king size bedroom and ensuite, along with two further rooms which make up a lovely family suite sharing a family bathroom. The larger of the two rooms includes a king sized bed plus a day bed and trundle to sleep a further 2 guests. The adjacent smaller room includes 2 single beds.
Luxury Egyptian Cotton sheets are used throughout.
The beautiful large gardens boast ample tables and seating for al fresco dining, mature planting and trees including an ancient Mulberry tree. The main garden has a delightful play area with solid wooden climbing frame, swing and slide set.
Guests also have access to the riverside garden which has tables and seating where you can enjoy an evening drink, watching the wildlife on the river. Look out for Otters, Swans, Kingfishers and other more common waterfowl, all of which have been spotted nearby!
There is a large car park next to the house solely for guests use, with spaces for up to 17 and further spaces available if required.
