About this property
Beautiful Cottage nr Mendip Hills, Private Parking
Summary: This picturesque cottage in the beautiful village of Chilcompton is the ultimate countryside hideaway. Dating back to 1831, expect bags of traditional charm perfectly complimented with stylish, contemporary interiors. Curl up on the plump sofas in front of the wood burner, cook delicious feasts and enjoy lazy lie-ins. With the Mendip Hills right on the doorstep and Wells, Frome and Bath all within easy reach, you won't struggle for activities! Private parking is available.
The Space: Flora Cottage has 4 bedrooms and can sleep up to 8 guests. On the ground floor is a twin room with two singles and there is also a shower room with a toilet on this level. On the first floor, you'll find two double bedrooms and a king bedroom, both of which share a family bathroom with a separate shower, bath and toilet. Although it can technically sleep up to 8, please keep in mind this is a period cottage and the room proportions are not comparable to modern properties. So it is likely more comfortable for up to 6 guests.
Guest Access: Guests will have full access to the cottage and garden.
The Neighborhood: Flora Cottage is quite literally surrounded by a plethora of attractions. Whether it's outdoor activities like hiking and rock climbing, historical sites or artisanal shopping, there is something for everyone. But you don't have to travel far for the conveniences, you'll find a CO-OP, Post Office and ATM just 5 minutes walk away and a larger Tesco store 5 minutes drive.
Nature enthusiasts will find themselves in paradise with the surrounding countryside at their doorstep. Lace up your walking boots and embark on scenic hikes along the nearby footpaths, where rolling hills and meandering streams create a tranquil backdrop. Explore the idyllic landscapes of the Mendip Hills or the enchanting woodlands of Longleat Forest. Cheddar Gorge is also only 30 minutes away where you can enjoy hiking, caving and rock climbing.
The historic market town of Frome is also only a 20-minute drive away. As well as a large selection of artisan shops you can also enjoy the monthly market (1st Sunday of each month). Here you'll find tons of food trucks, and stalls selling everything from antiques to groceries and more. England's smallest city, Wells, is similarly close and only 15 minutes drive. Enjoy a stunning cathedral and a wide selection of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Further afield, the Roman City of Bath is around a 25-minute drive and offers outstanding Architecture, mixing the 2,000-year-old Roman thermal baths with modern Bath stone buildings. Visit the original Roman Baths over 2,000 years old, have tea in the pump room restaurant, and the modern Thermae Spa finishing off your day with a rooftop swim overlooking the city.
Bath is also a vibrant shopping city offering a modern-day shopping experience with designer shops mixed with unique local traders. During the build-up to Christmas Bath, a German-style Christmas market typically runs from the last weekend of November until late December.
History buffs will delight in the rich heritage of the surrounding area. Don't miss the opportunity to visit nearby attractions such as Farleigh Hungerford Castle, a medieval fortress steeped in history, or the mystical ruins of Glastonbury Abbey. And if that wasn't enough, the world-famous Stonehenge can be reached in only 50 minutes. This is widely considered one of the most important prehistoric monuments in the world dating back over 4,000 years.
Getting Around: Due to the remote nature of rural Somerset, a vehicle is recommended to make the most of your stay here. Off-road parking for 2 vehicles can be found on the driveway for your convenience. There is also free parking in the surrounding streets.
Other Things to Note: The BBQ is available for use from April to October.

We had a great three night stay. Lovely cottage, well located for visiting the surrounding area. The cottage was clean and comfortable, with the most well equipped kitchen I’ve come across in a rental. Would definitely book again if staying in the area.

Beautiful property exactly as described.
Perfect for a little peace and quiet but close enough to bath, swindon etc to be a central point.
The whole family loved the stay

Hi Emma, thanks for taking the time to write us a lovely review. It's been a real pleasure hosting you and we hope to welcome you back again sometime!
The house was lovely in every aspect, decor immaculate, it was well stocked in the necessary items and beyond such as small things like various teabags, sachets of tomato sauce. Location was central to various towns. Also pet friendly with the pub at the top of the road allowing dogs in too, food was lovely too and selection of real ales.
Lovely cottage with modern facilities. Comfortable beds, cost living room

Thanks for your 5 star review Thomas. It is great to hear how much you and your friends enjoyed staying and would love to host you all again sometime in the future!
A lovely quiet cottage, just as described in the details, with good space, we were a family of 5 with 2 well behaved dogs. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you would need, the beds were very comfortable, the lounge was cosy and a lovely bright large conservatory for family meals. There are lots of footpaths around the village for great dog walks or you can drive 20 minutes to the Mendip Hills.I would definitely recommend this property to anyone.
